Today we are joined by Zac Woodfin on Episode 40 of The Hawkin Podcast.

Zac is a well-respected leader in the strength and conditioning community, is the USFL’s Director of Player Performance and Wellness, and oversees the League’s athletic performance training staff. Zac has held previous positions at the University of Missouri as Director of Athletic Performance, Kansas (2017-19) and Southern Miss (2015-16). In 2014, Woodfin won the FootballScoop award while serving as head strength and conditioning coach at his alma mater, UAB. Zac also spent time in the NFL as both a player and coach as he was with the Greenbay Packers for three seasons as an assistant strength and conditioning coach and spent time in the NFL as a player with the Green Bay Packers, Baltimore Ravens, and Houston Texans. Woodfin graduated from UAB in 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in exercise science and a concentration in fitness leadership.

Dr. Lopiano is currently the President and founder of Sports Management Resources, a consulting firm that focuses on bringing the knowledge of experienced, expert former athletics directors to assist scholastic and collegiate athletics departments in solving growth and development challenges. Previously, she was the chief executive officer of the Women's Sports Foundation from 1992 to 2007 and focused on ensuring athletic departments throughout the nation were compliant with Title IX regulations. Prior to that, in 1975, Dr. Lopiano was the first Director of Women's Athletics at the University of Texas. Throughout her years in athletics, Lopiano has been a strong advocate and supporter of Title IX regulations. Living in a male-dominated field, Dr. Lopiano gives excellent insight into equality in athletics.

Trey Hall is the head football sports performance coach. Hall joined the Black Bears after spending a season as the assistant football strength and conditioning coach at Yale University. James McFarland is a Teacher of Health and Physical Education and Strength and Conditioning Coordinator at Hillsborough High School, NJ. He was the National High School Strength and Conditioning Coach of the Year 2018, and Hillsborough High Schools Teacher of the Year in 2008. Jim has been responsible for the health and physical education planning and implementation of Hillsborough High School’s Strength and Conditioning Program since he began in 1997. Pat Dixon is the Director of Applied Sport Science at Momentous - a company who engineers athlete focused supplements.   Dixon began his career in exercise science at the University of Connecticut while pursuing a Master’s Degree and also working in athletics as a strength and conditioning coach. Previous publications, online and in print, have focused on athlete development with a focus on improving power production and performance. He spent 18 years working with college athletes at UConn, Cal-Berkeley, St John’s University and Loyola Marymount University with a focus on improving performance and decreasing the incidence of injury. While working with athletes, Dixon’s efforts helped shape multiple NCAA tournament appearances and Sweet Sixteen finishes in Women’s Basketball, Soccer and Volleyball.

While coaching, Dixon was a consultant and advisor to multiple biotechnology companies (Fitgenetix, Dyve Biosciences, Masimo Medical Technology). Efforts focused on developing products that better support physiological development and improve objective feedback leading to more efficient training protocols. DJ Dolan describes himself as an Athlete, Leader, & Teammate.  

As an Athlete, DJ was a former collegiate football player (at Merrimack College), and professional boxer for All-American Heavyweight (in California). 

As a Teammate and Leader, and shortly after his athletic career, he joined the US Army as both an enlisted and commissioned officer. Post Army, he joined the Massachusetts State Police working primarily on two teams. The first as a detective with the violent fugitive apprehension section attached to the US Marshals fugitive task force, as detective he was responsible for planning and carrying out hundreds of operations with the mission of locating and apprehend fugitives who are wanted for violent offense as well as safely locating victims of human trafficking and kidnapping. The second as a member of the statewide full-service Special Tactical Operations Team as a breacher. 

Expanding on his Leadership experience gained from the MA State Police and US Army, Dolan now serves as a social impact entrepreneur who empowers leaders, high performers, and organizations to help elevate HUMANITY. DJ is involved with multiple companies and missions. He is the founder and lead coach at EMPWR Coaching & Consulting where he specialized in helping leaders, teams, and organizations to discover their full potential to create a lasting impact on the world. He believes that this can be accomplished as a byproduct of living and leading authenticity and creating relationship-based systems aimed to enhance & nurture engagement, meaning, performance, well-being, and resilience. Additionally, DJ is the founder of One Tribe, which is a non-profit mentorship service with the mission of building purposeful relationships between servant leaders and youth leaders from at-risk communities guided with a curriculum from positive psychology, health science, Neuroscience and leadership development. Drew Hammond currently serves as a Holistic Health and Fitness (H2F) Director within the XVIII Airborne Corps located at Fort Bragg, NC. Prior to working with the Army, Drew served as a strength and conditioning specialist and human performance program director with Air Force Special Warfare out of Tucson, Arizona. He received his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his masters in physiology and strength and conditioning from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. Although the vast majority of his career has been with embedded tactical human performance teams, he has also worked with collegiate, professional, and international sporting organizations both in the United States and abroad.

David W. Dodick, MD, FRCP (C), FACP is a Professor of Neurology at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine, and a consultant in neurology at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona. At Mayo Clinic in Arizona, Dodick serves as the Director of the Headache Program and the Sports Neurology & Concussion Program.   Dr. Dodick is board certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). He also holds United Council for Neurologic Subspecialties certification in headache medicine and ABPN certification in vascular neurology. Dr. Dodick has authored more than 350 peer-reviewed publications and authored/edited 10 books. He is the Chair of the Sports Concussion Conference Workgroup and the AAN Annual Sports Concussion Conference of the American Academy of Neurology; and a member of the AAN’s Annual Meeting Committee. He is a member of the scientific committee of the International Migraine Trust. He is Chair of the International Headache Academy. He is on the editorial board of several journals including Lancet Neurology, Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Psychiatry, Postgraduate Medicine, Headache, and Cephalalgia.   Dr. Dodcik is the former President of the International Headache Society, former President of the American Headache Society, Chair of the American Migraine Foundation, Director of the US Academic Headache Consortium, and former Editor-in-Chief of Cephalalgia.   —   In today's podcast with Dr. Dodick we'll cover: 1.
