County Government vows to sustain prompt Remittance of Pension Contributions.

The County Government of Turkana has fully institutionalized prompt remittance of all statutory deductions including pension contributions to the rightful authorities, the Deputy County Secretary (DCS) Robert Loyelei has assured.
Speaking today at a meeting with a visiting team from the CPFKenya, the pension services provider for staff of Turkana County Public Service, DCS Loyelei said that the County had also formed an inclusive Pensions Committee where the representative of employees was a member so as to safeguard employees' concerns.
DCS Loyelei explained that an office dedicated to matters of pension had been created at the County headquarters and a framework of delivering similar services at the sub-county level to ease the processing of documentation required for claims.
Dr. John Ngasike, the chair of the Public Service Board, lauded the County for prioritizing pension remittance. He further said that the move was in full compliance with the current labor laws and an action that motivates employees.
The Board Chair requested the CPF team to lay the ground for continuous sensitization of employees on matters of pension which should be done during staff induction training immediately after recruitment to the County Public Service.
The operations and Marketing manager for the County Pension Fund (CPF), Mr. George Okioma, praised Turkana for setting the standards for prompt remittance and providing assistance to employees’ access to their claims.
Mr. Okioma confirmed that employees will benefit from yet another round of sensitization in addition to routine SMS alerts before the end of the current financial year during which annual contribution statements will be issued.
The CPF manager hinted that the pension’s services provider was finalizing talks with pension regulatory authorities to approve the use of contributions for accessing mortgage and post-retirement medical cover.

As one of the fast-growing municipalities in Kenya, Lodwar entirely depends on ground sources for its water. Recent research by REACH-A consortium of researchers from the University of Nairobi and the University of Oxford working in Kenya and Bangladesh to improve water security for the poor revealed that the Lodwar Alluvial Aquifer System commonly known as Napuu has 1.3 billion cubic meters of water. This is the water that can be safely and sustainably be abstracted without fear of depletion. this is certainly good news since water supply interruption has been common in the town.
