Hello, it’s Tiffany and Welcome back to the Cultivating Guts podcast a place where we discuss Gardening, Homesteading, Gut Health, and following our Intuition.
Tiffany ties modern suburban homesteading to our ancestral roots, like creating a potager in her own backyard from intuition; reaching into the inner knowing of the soul to cultivate personal healing. Using lifestyle, mindset and wisdom to cultivate healthy guts, personal intuition and joy in life. Tiffany blends herbalism, functional medicine and green witch practices to create a life of joy and beauty.
This podcast is a solo episode with Tiffany Today's episode is about hearing the intuition to change and walking into the unknown.

This podcast is a duo episode with Tiffany and Genevieve Charet. Today's episode is a conversation, join us .
Prospect Heights, IL - While towns across the nation are increasingly embracing backyard chicken keeping, Prospect Heights may be backtracking. The city, which attracts families and homesteaders due to its history of unrestricted chicken keeping, hosted a public meeting in January, 2024 to discuss proposed changes to the city code, including banning roosters and limiting the number of hens residents may keep. The meeting was standing-room only due to overwhelming support for chicken keeping. More than 1,350 residents have signed a local petition requesting that ordinances remain the same.
It's rare for chicken keeping to cause a disturbance. In fact, in an October 2023 Zoning Board meeting, the town Director of Building and Development, Dan Peterson, noted that the city receives very few complaints about chickens per year, most of them easily resolved. Despite that, Peterson began the January meeting with a presentation on codes from other villages that restrict chickens, with the seemingly explicit omission of the many villages around Chicagoland (like the city of Chicago proper) that allow unrestricted chicken keeping. What followed were several hours of statements from residents who support chickens and want the city to enforce the current codes that protect against unusual nuisance situations. View the January meeting at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d90WMBdIA_M&feature=youtu.be.
Cities across the nation are seeing the benefits of backyard chickens, including their ability to provide social connections, educational opportunities, pest control, fertilizer, and, of course, sustainably produced eggs. Despite these clear wins, Prospect Heights appears to be giving in to myths and misconceptions. "It’s disappointing, to say the least, that current city employees are ignoring the needs and desires of residents, ignoring the few who have real issues, and are trying to create new regulations that will do more harm than good,” says resident Niki Moylan.
The changes may also create an animal welfare crisis, according to the Adopt a Bird Network. "Animal shelters and sanctuaries in these areas become overwhelmed and find it results in the unanticipated allocation of resources and funds towards the additional housing to accommodate these birds for prolonged periods of time. Animal control will get continuous calls regarding dumped roosters."
Despite overwhelming community sentiment, the Planning and Zoning Board of Appeals is hosting a meeting at 7pm on June 26, 2024, at City Hall to propose their unprecedented changes to the town charter. See details and the agenda at www.prospect-heights.il.us. Residents are invited to voice their concerns to their local aldermen and the city mayor by calling the city at 847-398-6070.

This week's special guest is Becky Connelly. Becky and Tiffany discuss the new sizing for the Elli Bralette, business marketing and how do you know when to evolve as a business.
On her desk, Non Disclosure Apparel founder, Becky Connelly, has a framed photo of her 11 year old self. She explains, “It’s Olan Mills portrait and the studio lighting was perfectly illuminating my breast buds poking through my dress. I was completely mortified and cringed at the thought of other people seeing my “boobies” through my clothes.” Since then, Connelly she’s been self conscious about it.
Fast forward 35 years, and working in the traditionally male-dominated profession of construction, Connelly used many tricks to keep her “nips” under wraps. At school in Boston for construction management she was one of only three girls in her class, and during her subsequent career was often the only woman in the meeting room or on the job site.
“I never want to draw any attention to that part of my body,” she explains. After years of using medical tape, adhesive petals, and silicone concealers to hide the issue, and totally frustrated with uncomfortable padding and molded bras that reshaped her figure, she decided to do something about it.
“I had dreamt of my ideal bra, a non-padded, lightweight bralette with a thin, strong as hell concealer inside each cup,” she says from her home office in Charleston, SC.
After five years and several false starts, Connelly launched Non Disclosure Apparel and its first product, the Elli Bralette —a concealing bralette,—in January 2020. Designed without padding, wiring and completely seamless, the bralette features a small, thin, flexible “system” of fabric heat-sealed into its center, designed to completely conceal any potential nipple protuberance.
Connelly adds, “It’s flipping the script on the bralette as we know it, providing 100% coverage without padding - it’s a total game changer.”

Episode 28: Carolina Coops This week's special guest is Matt DuBoise from Carolina Coops. This podcast episode is an exciting and rich conversation. Tiffany and Matt discuss the top 3 tips for installing a Carolina Coop at home, the recent project Carolina Coops did in partnership with Unconditional Freedom at Mendocino County Jail, and even a bit about gut health and biodynamic homesteading. This is a fun episode.
Matt DuBoise started Carolina Coops over a decade ago as an idea of how nice it would be to have fresh eggs available every day, while living within city limits. Inspired by a love for animals, a talent for woodworking, and a unique business opportunity, the combination became a dream come true. Carolina Coops now has chicken coops in every U.S., Puerto Rico, Canada, Sweden, the Cayman Islands, and soon to be in the UK and beyond

Episode 20: Setting up a Chicken Brooder for success with Hafsa from Homestead Hafsa
This episode is a super fun one. I connected with Hafsa from Homestead Hafsa a few weeks ago and am so happy I found her. She has a similar path to homestead is the founder of Eggcited About Chickens which has education on how to raise chickens in the suburbs, the city or on a farm. Join us for fun conversation about raising baby chicks into egg laying hens.
I grew up in New Jersey, few minutes from Manhattan NYC. Now my husband and I live in rural Shenandoah Valley VA. I’ve been a business owner 13 years, owned traditional and online businesses in a variety of industries. The last 10 years I’ve been in marketing and am a Regional Vice President with an international service based direct sales company.
Homesteading has always been a passion since childhood. In college I worked on a farm caring for over 1,000 animals - chickens, goats, pigs, sheep, cows, horses. I always wanted to have a farm of my own and turn it into some kind of business. A few years ago when I lost my mom to stage 4 cancer it was a wake up call for me that life is short, we should do what makes us most happy and to live a healthier lifestyle. That’s when I made a decision to transition into homesteading full time. In early 2020 we completely stopped traveling (my husband and I used to travel all over the US on business hosting and speaking at seminars). The extra time from being home full time gave me the opportunity to create Homestead Hafsa later that the year.
During that time we lived 100% off grid for 2 years and recently moved to an existing farm with a few hundred chickens. Now in the last year+ I’ve built a completely new business from scratch and started with 0 followers on Instagram. I launched an ebook and course on raising chickens and work with the largest and most reputable brands in farming as a content creator and influencer teaching how to raise backyard chickens for beginners.

This episode is about taking a triggering moment in life and turning it into a business. Becky Connelly as a young child experienced the embarrassment of her budding breast appearing in a family photo, and thought I cannot let this happen to other girls. Becky used her persistence and drive to create Non-Disclosure Apparel, a female owned company who produces bralettes in the United States for women and girls. Becky explains her struggles and how she overcame them.

This episode is about creating a business from an intuitive message and combining past experiences into a growing online store. Jennifer Larkin launched her sustainable online shop right before the pandemic and has continued to expand her online shop. Jennifer shares her past experience that have helped her in launching Ava The Label, her challenges and mindset tips.
In the modern world of fashion, consumers have been traditionally conditioned to believe that when something is sustainable that equates to “not cute” or “on trend”. This may have once been a reality but in recent years the industry has proven to show major improvements. As the increase in advocacy for climate reform, and attraction for sustainable products grows, brands are finally starting to catch on that people want on trend pieces that do not contradict with their beliefs about climate change and their love for the planet. We can see this with the influx in ethical brands that have popped up just in 2021 alone. We have a long way to go but it is an exciting reality to hear your desires getting recognition. With the holidays approaching, it can be overwhelming on where to get gifts. The constant battle of wanting to show your love via presents but also not wanting to create more waste. That is why it is the perfect time to shop sustainably and small. No matter if you categorize yourself as “sustainable” or not, it’s never too late to change small habits. That is why in August of 2020, Model & Graphic Designer, Jennifer Larkin, created AVA the Label as a way to connect with a larger audience in the Fashion World. Fueled by her love for clothing & the environment, she has created a one-stop shop to bring some of the best ethical brands into your hands, including her own custom pieces! From the products to the packaging you can rest assured that you are buying into something that you should feel good about. With perfect gifts for yourself (we all deserve them) and your loved ones, you can be assured to find something for everyone in your life.

This episode is about rituals to celebrate the Winter Solstice. Kathryn Zielger brings her favorite practices and ceremonies to the conversation and inspires us to go deep this season in giving thanks with the waning moon along with releasing the old patterns and beliefs.
Kathryn says, "I earned that badge on the male dominated, eat what you kill, capitalistic trading floor.
By learning to master my own masculine energy, conquering fear and insecurity, using calculative precision and strength, I learned how to use my voice to assert and command order within chaos.
I was proud to stand shoulder to shoulder in this energy and it was a formative lesson in resilience, structure and power."
Kathryn goes on to explain, "My initials keep me connected to the energy of my ancestors.
Louise representing my material grandmother and guiding me through our connection on the left/feminine side of my physical body. Although I never knew her on Earth, our relationship is one of flow, higher consciousness and collaboration.
Ziegler from my grandmother Mae, the only grandparent I had growing up. I still feel her farm-wife presence in the grounding energy of the land where she raised 6 kids.
She is with me in the practical rituals where we connect to sacred energy through daily tasks."
Kathryn developed her unique method call KLZ. What is KLZ? A formulated blend of my wide-ranging techniques designed to facilitate authentic living toward a life we previously never dared to dream.

This episode is about the guts behind Holistik Wellness and how the product was brought to life by TJ. Tiffany takes a deep dive into the cultivating of the plants that bring Holistik Wellness's CBD sticks to life and many of the benefits consumers have received along with herbal benefits of the unique blends.
TJ’s path to creating emerging CBD company, HOLISTIK Wellness, was molded from the early stages of his career at Procter & Gamble, the consumer products behemoth that believes brand should touch lives, not just sell products. TJ left in ’17 on a mission to take his learnings to a smaller venture closer to home. That mission was by no means the ‘Green Rush’ to cannabis/CBD until he naively suggested his mom try CBD and she replied with a passionate, rooted stigma that kept her from considering. It was this stigma vs the consumer potential that shaped TJ’s mission. His mother, and many like her, needed an easy button to understanding the vast world of CBD, vs the bullet point negatives long rooted in her mind. Her first reaction to CBD was ‘No Way’, but after a lot of help and guidance from her son, she found a path to CBD Wellness. With deep consumer products experience, an even more experienced team around him, his mother’s inspiration and this devotion to opening consumers eyes to CBD, TJ created HOLISTIK Wellness to help consumers simplify their path to CBD Wellness.

This episode is about gut health, gut bacteria and more. Tiffany takes a deep dive into the gut health and probiotic world with Tina Anderson Founder of Just Thrive.
Tina Anderson’s journey into the world of health had a unique
start and some unusual turns. She began her career as a trial
lawyer who specialized in settling cases by bringing both sides
together, a personal passion of hers. Once her second child
arrived, Tina left that high-stress job behind so she could focus
on her family. Luckily, she was still able to use her considerable
legal skills to point her career in a new direction as the in-house
counsel for a family pharmaceutical company. But what Tina saw
there made her change direction again. Frustrated by the many
abuses in the pharmaceutical industry, Tina turned toward the
field of natural health, and found her life’s work. She channeled
her energy into learning all she could about disease prevention
and good health maintenance. That led her to discover the
importance of gut health and how connected and crucial it is for
overall health and wellness. To share her discovery with the
world, Tina along with her husband created a unique supplement
that contains the superior probiotic strains of renowned
researcher Dr. Simon Cutting. By promoting gut health and
probiotics, Tina shares her passion for wellness, helping others
live their best physical and emotional lives.
