We talk about love, sing about love, we try to find love. But what actually is love? Maybe we know it when we experience it. But is that really love, the kind of love the Bible describes, the kind of love that is a fruit of the Spirit? What if its possible to love better? To love better is to learn to love like Jesus. But how? In our fallen world where every heart and relationship is marred and damaged by sin, how can we love like Jesus? In the message we will discover what kind of love heals, restores, and deepens relationships by looking at three steps we can take to start to love like Jesus.

We all want to change. We don’t just want to be different, we want to be better people. The problem is, so many people look in all the wrong places. The word fruition means the state or action of producing fruit. And when we display the different fruits of the Spirit in our lives, we live the type of lives that God created us to live. Through the Holy Spirit, God wants to transform our character. In this series we are going to look at what it takes to be a disciple of Christ.
We begin in this overview message and look at this disciple idea. When we follow the teachings of Jesus, when we show the 9 fruits of the Spirit in our lives, like Jesus did, we are more attractive. It not only changes the way we live our life, but it reflects God, and it points other people to Him.

Jesus was the most counter-cultural person who ever lived, and he said some amazing counter-cultural statements that are guaranteed to turn our life upside down. One of those statements relates to how we should live as part of the Counter Cultural Church. Jesus says, if you want to be great, be humble. In the message we will discover why that is the best way to live and why living like that is so different to the culture we live in today. We are going to look at how radical humility works and the ways it impacts our lives.

We live in a society of consumers and in a world that defines greatness in terms of power, possessions, prestige and position. But God has a totally different view of life. It’s a life where we can serve others. And the place that does it best, is the church. In the message we will see why serving others is the best use of our time and talents. And as we do that, we will be blessed beyond what we can imagine.

We live in a society that is obsessed with the physical outward appearance. Image and beauty are what our society seems to value. But once again, the church offers a totally different view of life than what society offers. The church sees that the inner spiritual life is more important than the external, that it’s what we become when we really put into practice the principles that help us to grow spiritually mature. And yet, even mature Christians struggle with how to grow. In the message, we are going to look at how does spiritual growth happen? We will discover how to develop our inner spiritual life and take care of the inside part of our nature as opposed to society that’s all about the outward appearance.

The church offers a totally different way of life than what society offers. The church brings together people of all backgrounds and ages and connects them together. It’s what the Bible calls fellowship and it’s amazing and wonderful. Church is not a place you go to. Church is a family you belong to. And the truth is, in God’s family there are four levels of fellowship. We’re going to look at each one in detail because we were not meant to be here on earth alone, to go through life on our own. The fact is we need each other. In this message we discover the different levels of fellowship and how we can grow together.

How do you cope with overload? As a society we spend a lot of money on trying to relieve stress in our lives. Because the problem is when you are overloaded and stressed it affects our body. But what if there was a better way to deal with overload? What if you could recognize if you are suffering from stress and overload early? In the final part of our series looking at the life and faith of Moses, we see a classic case of overload. The good news is that help and advice came to Moses. The steps he took, we can take today to overcome stress and overload.

God uses tests in our life to grow our character and to strengthen our faith. It’s one of the fundamental laws of spiritual growth. If you want to be the person God wants you to be, God will test your faith. During this message we look at a test that Moses and the Israelites had. We are going to see some of the dangers of testing God and then how to trust God in the tests of life.

How do you deal with disappointment? It’s something we all face at times in life. But the danger is, if you allow disappointment to get a hold of you it will lead you to discouragement which can be quite debilitating. Disappointment can cause you to give up trying, hoping, and caring. It can even cause you can give up believing. The good news is that the Bible has a lot to say about disappointment. In fact, in the life of Moses, he had to face disappointment many times. In Exodus 15 and the story of the bitter waters at Marah, we see three facts of life that we need to be prepared for in order to deal with disappointment.

What do you do when you’re in a tight spot in life? It might be personal, or relational, or financial, or work related. Exodus 14 is the famous passage where the Israelites and Moses are at the Red Sea and they find themselves in a tight spot. And when they had an opportunity to be tested in their faith, they responded in fear. But it doesn’t have to be like that. In the message we will discover what it takes to make it through a tight spot and learn to take steps of faith.

The one thing that we’re all responsible for is the healthy condition of the inner life of our soul. The challenge then is to make choices that enable that to happen. One of the places that answers that question comes out of Exodus 4 where God is helping Moses to make the right choices before He sends him back into Egypt. We all know what it is to have a cluttered mind. The cluttered mind is not a good thing and that's why God calls us to a clear mind. But what does that look like and is it actually possible in this day and age to have a clear mind?

It seems to say that we can have the same mindset, the same mind that was given to Jesus. We've been following along in John's gospel of the seven signs. This week we come to the culmination and climax of John's eyewitness account as we focus on the death and resurrection of Jesus.
Have you ever said, or heard someone say, "If God would just do something spectacular one time that I saw, then maybe I would have bigger faith or more faith or I would understand better"? Have you wondered what God thinks of that? In the Gospel of John, we see a man begin to follow Jesus based on limited information. This man, who was born blind, said he only knew one main thing—and that one thing was enough to make him curious about who Jesus really was.

How do you deal with fear? None of us want fear or worry or even anxiety to control our life. And for most people, there is an element of fear or worry that plagues us, and from time to time in some particular area of our life, fear easily takes over us. The fascinating thing is that Jesus talked a lot about how to deal with fear. In fact, he went further than that. He demonstrated through a number of dramatic occasions how to turn fear into trust.
We will see two dramatic occasions that Jesus taught his disciples how to overcome fear, and in the process, pointed them to his identity as we look at the 5th sign John wants us to know.

Early in our faith journey, there is a danger where we view God as someone who can give us everything we want. We may not say it like that, but there is this sense of when we pray, we are praying for what we want. In other words, we can either be a consumer or a follower of Jesus. Here we meet a severely disabled man who has spent most of his life in a desperate situation. Jesus sees him, speaks to him and then heals him. There was a group of people who hated Jesus for doing this because Jesus broke one of their rules. But Jesus knew exactly what he was doing because he wanted to teach them, and is an important principle. This Sunday for our special Jubilee service we give thanks to God for her duty. As the Queen, she is seen as and set aside as having a position of greatness.
But the greatest King that the world has ever known is Jesus Christ. He is the King of kings and the Lord of lords. He's the king whose power is absolute, whose reign is infinite, whose throne is incomparable.

Spiritual growth is not a solo act. It's something that we do together because God has designed us to grow together. We grow by building each other up. And God uses the different ways He has made us so that when we get together we can grow together.

For some people their feelings and commitment only last as long as the emotion of an experience. For some when the feelings of a spiritual high begin to fade, so does their interest. Physical thirst is a real thing, but spiritual thirst is even more real. Every single person is thirsting for something in their life that needs to be quenched. The reason it has the power to change lives is because it is the Word of God. It is God-breathed. God speaks life into people. The Word of God has the ability to point out what’s wrong in our lives, what needs to be corrected in our lives and what we need. This is the power of God’s Word. How do you build your life on the Bible so that you’re building on solid rock, so that when the storms and trials and difficulties of life inevitably come, you’ll be able to handle it? The answer to that is to look at the way God made you. God gave you five senses – hear, smell, see, taste, and touch. We are going to consider life as a journey. There are many metaphors in the Bible for life on this earth, and one of them is life is a journey. It pictures the progressive unfolding of one stage of life into another. But how can we journey well? Are we on the right road of the journey of life? How can we enjoy the journey and not just endure it? And what is the final destination of our journey? In the message, we're going to talk about this journey from two verses in Proverbs 4 and five things about our journey.

As it's Valentines Day, where the world focuses on love, a type of love that is based on feelings. But is that what love is really all about? Not according to Jesus. In fact, Jesus' view of love is extremely radical and counter cultural. So, a disclaimer. You don't have to act on your answer, but you owe it to yourself to know the answer to this question.
We are going to look at some of the last words of Jesus which he spoke to his disciples just before he was going to die. Last words are often the most important. Jesus' words are no exception. These are words, that we not only need to take note of, but also to act upon. This Sunday we look at the relationship question and how to implement it into all our relationships.

Over the last three weeks we have looked at 3 of the 5 questions to ask whenever we are making any decision of importance. 1. The honesty question: am I being truthful with myself, really? 2. The history question: what story do I want to tell? 3. The morality question: is there a tension that deserves my attention? Today we come to the fourth question: the discernment question. This question relates to wisdom, to knowing what is the wise thing to do.
To help us in this, we are going to look at some words of Paul that he wrote to Christians living in Ephesus. Paul helps us understand the reality of living in a world that wants us to follow worldly wisdom instead of Gods wisdom. In a world of lots of competing opinions and advice as well as pressure to conform to the world's way, where do we find the right kind of wisdom. Where is the best source of wisdom to be found? The answer is in the Word of God. In the message we will look at why this is key to making good decisions and how we can plug into God's wisdom for our lives.

We will look at the third question to ask ourselves when making a decision and that's the morality question. This relates to our conscience, that internal tension competing for our attention when we consider an option that if we choose it, it could lead to regret. To help us in this, we are going to look at a fascinating narrative from the life of King David, Israel's second king, that illustrates the importance of paying attention to a seemingly irrational and in his case, an inconvenient tension. Everything was pointing in a direction, which on the surface seemed like the obvious choice. But something held David back and instead he made the right choice... although at the time it didn't look like it was. In the message we will look at some steps we can take to guard against making the wrong choice and how God helps and protects us.

And we are going to look at the Old Testament story of Joseph, which is a great reminder of how powerful and history preserving this question is. It’s a fascinating story, that relied on the decisions Joseph made at crucial points in his life.

We will look at the first question we need to ask ourselves whenever we are making a decision: How honest am I? This is an important first question because you owe it to yourself to be truthful with yourself about the decisions and the choices that you make. But the problem is, we often lie to ourselves. To help us see this and the disaster it can lead to, we are going to look at a motley bunch of Old Testament kings and a prophet who warned them what would happen if they were not honest about the situation they found themselves in. And if you ever think the Bible is boring, you will find out today it certainly is not!

How do we get a bigger perspective in life? Is it possible to make better decisions, so that we will be faced with fewer regrets? We all know making the right choice is important. Why? Because you are not the only person impacted by your decisions. And you are not the only person impacted by your regrets either. In our new series of messages, we will look at how to get the bigger perspective in life so that we can make right decisions. Welcome to our new series: Christmas Good News. We begin by looking at what is the purpose of Christmas. Most of us have an insatiable desire to find meaning or purpose even in the most random events in life, especially the negative events. We all long for a comprehensive explanation for what's going on in the world. We long for one, because there is one. God is involved in this would, even when we can't see it. The narrative surrounding the birth of Jesus is a reminder that the world is not as random as it appears.

We come to the final phrase of this prayer that Jesus prayed, Matthew 6:13, “For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever.” Kingdom, power, glory. Three important words we need to understand. Why? Because this is the reason for everything. Everything that’s happened in the past, everything that’s going to happen in the future, the reason for the universe, the reason why we are alive. God made you to live in his kingdom, and to show his power, and to bring him glory. The question is, how do we live for God’s glory?

Have you ever said to yourself, "Today I'm going to make some changes in my life. I'm going to stop those bad habits." But somehow you seem to fall back into the same old bad habits? Because the reality of living on this planet is that temptation will come into our life every day. If we aren’t aware of it and how to deal with it, we will give into temptation. That’s why we need what Jesus tells us to pray in Matthew 6:13, “And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.” Jesus knows that we all struggle with temptation. It's common to all of us. But how do we deal with it? Are there things we can do to protect ourselves from giving into to temptation? We are going to look at what leads us into temptation and also God's escape plan.

Two of the greatest barriers in life that keep us from experiencing genuine peace of mind are guilt and resentment. Guilt and resentment do more damage in our life than anything else. The Lord’s Prayer deals with both of these issues in a powerful way. Jesus tells us to pray, “Forgive us our sins just as we have forgiven those who have sinned against us.” If you are a follower of Jesus you are required to forgive because you've been forgiven. In fact, Jesus connects our forgiveness by God to forgiving others.

Have you ever asked yourself these types of questions: What’s hindering my progress in life? What’s hindering me growing closer to God, growing closer to my family, to other people. What’s holding me back? Often, we consider and look at lots of other answers to these questions. But it's something far deeper. The truth is, what holds you back in life is almost always internal. The things that hold you back relate to the issues of guilt, and in particular unconfessed sin. That’s why Jesus tells us to pray the next line in the Lord's Prayer: 'Forgive us our sins.' When we understand this part of the prayer and practice it, it opens the door to live a life of freedom, a life of a clear conscience, a life that is joyful.

In today's episode, we’re going to look at the third phrase: “Give us today our daily bread.” When Jesus says we’re to pray, “Give us today our daily bread,” He’s talking about far more than just bread. In fact, He is talking about being totally dependent on God for everything in our life. This is the part of the prayer when we remind ourselves that God is our ultimate provider, not just what we eat, everything. And Jesus says, when we pray, we are to pause, and we are to declare our dependence on God for everything, every day, every single thing lest we forget.

In this episode, Pastor Phill will look at why we need to pray, “Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”
What does that mean? And why do we pray that? It's because God’s will is not done on earth most of the
time. In heaven, God’s will is done perfectly. But on earth it’s rarely done on earth as it is in heaven. So,
when we pray, “Thy kingdom come, thy will be done,” it's saying, "God you’re in charge." It means that we
are surrendering our whole life to God. Jesus is actually inviting us to experience the world in a way that we
will never experience it unless we surrender. But what does it mean to surrender?

In this episode Pastor Phill focuses on the first part of the Lord's Prayer that says, ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed by your name’ and the fact that the Lord's Prayer says we can refer to God as 'Our Father'.Only seven times in the Old Testament is God referred to as father. Jesus referred to God as father 150 times in the New Testament. What we must understand is that God is a person, not a power. We can have deep relationships with a person, but we can’t have deep relationships with a power or force.
