Jaime features a highly regarded Massage Therapist specializing in customized massages but with a difference. She investigates the difference between the large chains and a more very personalized operation.

About Daria:
I was born in Rhode Island, we moved to a small town in New Jersey (Ramsey) and then when I was about 12 we moved to Tucson.
Traditional college wasn't for me.
I went to community college for about a year but nothing really stood out to me in terms of finding a career so I worked as a waitress for a few years.
I have always liked helping people and would give people shoulder massages and someone told me I should consider doing it for a living as I was good at it. So I went to massage school!
I knew that owning my own business wasn't going to be easy but it was much harder than I ever anticipated! I had limited resources (including funding) and I did rush into it a bit so I wasn't as prepared as I wish I would have been.
I learned a lot about what not to do, what worked and what didn't in terms of growing the business. I was grateful for the support I had from my family as without them I never would have been able to stay open!
We are going on our ninth year and we are doing great! We have plans to do a major renovation on the building and expand it, add a room to do couples massage and hopefully keep growing our team! Massage is not easy to do, it is a physically demanding job that also requires an empathetic personality and unfortunately the changes to the education have made it seem like anyone can do this, that it's not that hard which couldn't be further from the truth.
The demand for self-care has never been higher and to meet that need we must get higher standards of education so there can be well trained therapists to provide these services!

Jaime's guests co-own and operate "Company Eco" a unique retail outlet that specializes in online sales of environmentally friendly products. Quality and safety of their products is key and Company Eco are more than proud of their purchasing choices. Find out about their own rating dynamic.

ABOUT- Jessy Long is a mission-driven entrepreneur based in Tucson, Arizona. He founded Company Eco in 2021 with a vision to address large-scale social and environmental challenges through a superior online shopping experience that prioritizes both people and planet. Today, Company Eco is one of less than 40 companies in the state to achieve Green Certification through Local First Arizona and was recognized as a 2022 Sustainability First award winner by Sustainable Earth.

A few years back I was working in a finance role at the Ritz Carlton here in Tucson and although I have an immense amount of respect and admiration for the people and culture there, I was shocked by the resources we were using and how much waste was being generated. In response to this, I took the initiative to build the first ever Environmental Program for this resort. I balanced building and running the Environmental Program on top of my full-time responsibilities in the finance department, going to business school online, and around the same time, I started building Company Eco on the side.

With the success and the impact of the program at the Ritz, a new mindset started to emerge for me… how can I spend my time and energy in a way that’s going to have maximum impact in the world?

What this translated to initially was a deeper understanding of how my individual purchasing choices impacted a lot of the challenges we face collectively. So the logical next step for me was learning how to live a more sustainable lifestyle on a personal level.

Basically just being super conscious about the products I was using on a daily basis and the companies I was supporting through these purchases. But what I found was… that the amount of time and energy that I was spending to locate earth-friendly products… it couldn’t be sustained. Even when I could find something that aligned with my values, I was oftentimes disappointed in the quality of the product.

I remember experiencing feelings of hopelessness and despair. I understood, from a collective standpoint, how harmful my consumer behaviors were but I felt like I had no way of changing things. I remember thinking to myself… for those who want to live a more dignified way of life, there should be an impactful outlet out there for them to channel that energy. From this the vision for Company Eco was born. I felt like this was the most important thing I could be working on so I launched Company Eco as a solo founder mid-March of last year.

Company Eco is an online retailer curating the highest quality, most environmentally-preferable products available on the market. We harness the power of individual purchasing choices to change the world for the better - for people and the planet. We rigorously test for product quality, vet for product safety, and set a new benchmark for environmental standards through our proprietary sustainability rating. We also envision setting a new standard for ethical business that includes a commitment to company financial transparency, pricing transparency for each product, and limits on individual wealth through salary caps and capped returns. Our long-term vision is to become something like a sustainable alternative to Amazon. We envision leveraging our socially and environmentally-responsible business practices to provide superior overall value that makes sustainable consumption the norm. We believe with time and scale, we can create a more stable biosphere that can support the human population into the future.

In addition to our online store, we are specializing in client gifts for professionals who pair a gift with their services - or really for anyone looking to gift in a meaningful way.

We offer options in a range of price points and all gift sets include a custom engraving, a personalized thank you card, and free shipping.

Our aim with this gift solution is three-fold:
(a) offer professionals unmatched convenience,
(b) deliver a product that meets a set of quality, ethical and environmental standards that are second to none, and
(c) deliver a personalized experience that will leave a lasting impression on clients.

ABOUT Cara Plantiz An entrepreneur passionate about the intersection of social impact and business. She was born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico and holds a degree in Environmental Studies from Tulane University and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Southern California. She draws from a diverse range of professional experiences including grassroots non-profit, outdoor education, and human resources. She is now making an impact as a Co-Founder of Company Eco.

Ever since I declared an Environmental Studies Major at Tulane University my freshman year after taking a “Responding to Climate Change” class, I’ve directed my career towards making a difference in the lives of others.

After graduating from Tulane, I took a job with a Canadian-Peruvian non-profit in Cusco, Peru to direct their scholarship and leadership program for indigenous students. I spent 3 years with this organization and was lucky enough to find myself in a leadership role right out of college. During this time I gained important skills in building and managing a team, fundraising, administering a budget, and executing on a vision.

While I learned a lot from this experience, I found myself wondering if the non-profit structure was really the best for making a difference in the world. I left that experience excited about the possibility of pursuing mission-driven business and decided to pursue a Master’s in Business to develop a pragmatic, business skill set.

I decided to attend the University of Southern California for my MBA because of the Brittingham Social Enterprise Lab, where I was selected as a Fellow.

My transition to USC was challenging as I was coming from a non-business background. When I shared about my challenges in the first semester, I heard that many other students were encountering mental health and wellness challenges, too.

In response to this, I ran for President of the Mindfulness and Wellness student organization and under my leadership we increased membership by 168%; tripled our programming; and officially partnered with the student government for the first time to bring the student body brand-new events and workshops that were well-received and well-attended.

After graduating from USC, I moved to Tucson to be closer to family and after about a year and a half of being a wellness solopreneur and working with clients one-on-one I met Jessy and learned about his vision for Company Eco and saw a real opportunity to make a meaningful impact on a larger scale.

Jaime has Dr. Kristin Makinajyan as her special guest for this episode.
An immigrant initially from Armenia who has built a very successful Home Health practice and service. Jaime delves into the benefits for those at home who need this service and care.

ABOUT ~ Dr. Kristin Makinajyan DNP, MSN, BSN,RN

I am an immigrant from Armenia came to the US when I was 16 years old. After graduating high school in Pasadena, California I began my nursing school. Graduating from LAS USC School of nursing was challenging but eye-opening experience. I started working at the county hospital as an ICU nurse.

Later on I discovered the wonderful world of Home Health. I continued my education and received Masters of Nursing in Education and Doctorate In Nursing to be able to influence policy in the US.

After working in the ICU at the county hospital, I figured that hospital work was not really my calling. I saws myself as a community nurse, public health nurse an a person who can teach people and empower them by giving them knowledge about self-care. That is when I discovered home health. Home health is a very challenging and interesting sector in nursing. Nurses provide care to patients at their home under the direction of the physician.

Most people who qualify for this type of service are elderly, the ones that cannot go to the doctor’s office. I began working in a home health agency in California. I have worked there 22 years and grew from being the field nurse to the director and to changing policies and implementing new regulations based on Medicare changes. I have dedicated my entire career to making it the best experience for the patients and for the clinicians.

My experience in home health brought me to open my own practice in Tucson. My husband helped research an area that was underserved and we found Tucson to be a place where elderly were not being cared for in the home health field as they should. We found that the reasons for include lack of willing and trained clinicians and the remote areas that are very difficult to reach.
We decided to create a business around meeting the needs of the community and around supporting clinicians who are willing to help out our elderly. We have gained a lot of business in the community by going out of our ways and providing care to those who are needy, who live far, who don't have the family support. We have provided free care to those whose insurance would not allow any services.

We believe that healthcare is not a privilege, it is a right and all Americans should have access to free, quality healthcare at any time. We use this moto to use any and all resources we can to address the needs of the community and to provide the best care we can.

In this episode, Jaime discusses the wonderful work that the Beyond Foundation does in our community with the Executive Director, Daniela Diamente. Beyond helps the community to get healthier with a greater understanding of the whys and hows of health-conscious activities. Learn about some fun activities you can join in with the "Beyond Foundation."

About Daniela Diamente:

Daniela believes in the capacity of all people, especially youth, to be healthy, engaged, and good people. Originally from Indiana, she has a Master's in Cultural Anthropology from the University of Arizona with a focus on youth development and education.

She has over 20 years of experience in non-profit leadership in Tucson and is the owner and co-director of Tucson CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) as well as an Adjunct Instructor of Pilates at the UA in addition to being the ED of Beyond.

She helped to build up the education program at BICAS (a bicycle recycling center) and launch Cyclovia Tucson for its first two inaugural events. She co-founded El Grupo (with a mission to empower youth through bicycles) with her husband Ignacio – who re-introduced her to the bicycle and the worlds that it opens. She stepped down after 15 years as the Executive Director of El Grupo in 2019 and completed a yearlong bicycle trip with her family. Upon return, she moved into her current role with Beyond and Tucson CSA to help stabilize and grow these businesses during the stressful early stages of the pandemic. She continues to volunteer as a mentor with youth, especially girls, through El Grupo. She likes to inspire movement, confidence, and leadership in others.

Beyond’s mission is to improve the health and well-being of our community, through the use of good science and rational analysis. A broad-based coalition of Southern Arizonans—including hospitals and health organizations, environmental advocacy groups, community centers, outdoor recreation groups, and others—worked together to define BEYOND’s year-round focus. What evolved from that collaboration was a unique health formula emphasizing four key pillars and related objectives that support optimum physical and mental health, forming the basis of Beyond’s mission.

In this episode, Jaime talks with Leslie Bosch, PhD about the effects of stress and the steps we can take the reduce that stress to live a happier, more productive life. If you have stress in your life, you'll want to listen in!

About Leslie Bosch:

Leslie Bosch, PhD, is a developmental psychologist and a National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach. Dr. Bosch received her training as an integrative wellness coach from the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine. She helps busy professionals and entrepreneurs minimize the negative effects of stress so they can make a bigger impact without sacrificing their health, well-being, or personal relationships.

"I am originally from Denver, CO. I've lived in Tucson for 15 years. I came to Tucson to attend the U of A. I met my husband shortly after I arrived; I was a student in his college algebra class. We have a Chihuahua named Kobe.

"I got my PhD in Family Studies and Human Development. After I received my PhD, I tried to get a job in student services at the U of A without success. So, I started to think about other ways I could use my knowledge of human development to help people. That's when I thought about being a coach. I discovered that the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine had a coaching program. So, I enrolled.

"At that time, like many Americans, I was working long hours in a very demanding job. Unfortunately, I was also mismanaging my stress - in fact, I didn’t even know stress management was a thing. I was eating lots of junk food, not exercising, and sleeping poorly. I was arguing with my husband because I was tense all the time, and I certainly wasn't having any fun. I didn't realize it at the time but I was unwittingly trading my well-being, my health, and my relationship satisfaction FOR success in my career!

"But, during the training, not surprisingly, my homework was to essentially “clean up my act” in all the 7 core areas of health, which I did. After several months of concerted effort, I began to feel better. I lost some weight; I was sleeping better; and I felt calmer, rested, and energized. I was feeling more connected to my husband. I was taking time to enjoy myself.

"I was so happy with my results that I took my efforts to the next level and became a National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach. Now, I work with others to improve the quality of their lives, too.

"I provide health and wellness coaching, especially, stress relief coaching through my 90-day signature program called the Stress RESET Program."

The Stress RESET Program contains five science-backed strategies that fit together like pieces of a stress management puzzle that allow clients to upgrade (optimize) their response to stressful situations. Essentially, the program shows you how to keep an eye on your stress levels, regulate your emotions, apply your signature strengths and core values, achieve and maintain a flow state, and talk to yourself in ways that promote mental agility and emotional well-being.

All these proven strategies work together synergistically to keep you grounded and empowered, especially during stressful situations.

With the Stress RESET Program, I have helped clients deal effectively with a variety of stressful situations such as…

-Dealing with ever-expanding work demands
-Having difficulty sleeping
-Dealing with a new health crisis
-Passing a high-stakes exam
-Making a difficult decision like whether or not to divorce
-Dealing with conflict
-Adjusting to a new leadership position
-Negotiating a raise
-Dealing with presentation anxiety
-Working with a difficult boss
-Caring for sick parents
-Transitioning to retirement
-Prioritizing self-care

"I attribute my success to a unique blend of book smarts, street smarts, and empathy. Also, the synergy between the client and me. I love helping them come up with unexpected, fun, and creative ways to go about getting what they want. Change can be difficult but, I try to make if fun, easy, and enjoyable."

I work with clients one-on-one and in groups via Zoom.

I love seeing clients get what they want.

United Way of Southern Arizona a famous organization within the Tucson community brings together business and education, financial wellness initiatives, and focus on the elder community with their needs and support.

About Lisa Floran:

I grew up in Indiana (Valparaiso – the self-proclaimed popcorn capital of the world!) and lived in Chicago for about 7 years after college. I moved to Tucson to pursue a Master’s in Public Health in 2018. I have lived in Jefferson Park for the past 3 ½ years – I especially love how bike-able work and downtown are from my neighborhood.

In Chicago, I worked in fundraising for a community health provider and food bank. I also worked with the Chicago Community Trust on a business-led effort with partners such as Allstate, Boeing, and Exelon to reduce youth violence in the city. While I was in graduate school, I worked with the City of Tucson’s Ward 3 office on housing and code enforcement policy and with United Way on high-quality preschool projects. And now, I primarily work on emergency assistance and COVID relief, eviction prevention, and financial wellness. I suppose my background is a bit all over the place! But I love learning about new ideas, so whenever there is a project that needs extra hands, I’m always happy to jump in and help if I can.

My parents are both teachers, so I think I’ve always looked for work that allows me to contribute in a similar way. I served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Senegal, and that experience reinforced my resolve to continue community work back in the U.S. – finding ways to support good work already happening and help connect the dots between opportunities and resources.

I’m not sure if I knew what I was getting into, or why, when I started working in community development, but I can speak a little to why I’ve stayed! With my job, I get to spend my working hours tackling complicated problems and trying to make life a little safer, happier, and healthier for everyone in my community. I especially appreciate the moments when ideas click and we are able to bring people together around a new policy, program, or idea – and then see it play out and make a real difference.

About Doughty Overturf

I lived here for the last 7 years. The rest of my life I lived in Iowa. I was raised to be honest, hardworking, and to help others. I appreciate the weather and mountain views more than most. Iowa gets cold don't you know.

I've worked in management positions since I graduated college. I've connected people and planned events my entire life whether it was my side hustle or I was Private Events Director and Membership Director.

My hobbies are Golf, my dogs, visiting Scottsdale, volunteering, doing neighborly favors and random acts of kindness daily keeps me quite busy. I like to explore our local restaurant's happy hours.

I wanted to do something rewarding. About seven years ago my dad died tragically and very unexpectedly.

He volunteered and made a difference in many lives. He was extraordinary.
He had 30 years perfect attendance at work.
He volunteered and helped many.

I do not have children. I don't want to just exist, go to work and come home.  I want to meet and connect interesting people in my community.

I want to contribute to our economy by connecting local people and businesses to dine at a local spot that could benefit from us being there.

I grew up in a small town and enjoy that small town comradery and try to welcome every new neighbor in my neighborhood and be there for questions, sometimes cook for sick ones, feed their cats, or whatever.

I was born and raised in Tucson, and I love it here. I have been married to my high school sweetheart, Dave for 42 years.
We have four grown children, three boys and a girl.

In my spare time, my favorite thing to do is hang out with my grandchildren. The oldest is 13, and the youngest is six weeks. When I’m not playing with Legos or cuddling grandbabies, my husband and I like to hike, camp, and go waterfall hunting.

At the beginning of his senior year in high school, our youngest child, Andrew, surprised us one day when he told us he was joining the Marines.

It was really a shock because he had always been interested in the Air Force, but never got serious about wanting to join. I really had no prior experience with the military, except for an uncle who served in Viet Nam, so I was nervous about it.
When he joined up in 2010, I found out about Tucson Area Marine Moms, which was a great source of support for me. I became the president in 2012.

My son is now a veteran, but still works with, and deploys with the Marines as a contractor.

Tucson Area Marine Moms is primarily a support group to mothers of United States Marines. Along with monthly support meetings, we hold quarterly care package events, where we pack 100 care packages for deployed service members of all branches.

We are a 100% volunteer organization and rely on donations from the community. Our main fundraiser for the year will be a Poker Run on October 9th, which will include a hi/lo hand payout, a raffle, and a 50/50.

We are also selling tickets for a gun raffle that will be drawn after the run.
