Lors de notre dernier live 📹, j'ai embarqué les participants dans les méandres de la création de thèmes WordPress. D'emblée, j'ai levé le voile sur cette mystérieuse hiérarchie des modèles 📄, cette base incontournable pour tout thème digne de ce nom. Puis, j'ai dévoilé deux approches pour s'aventurer dans la création : l'une avec une extension sympa 🛠️, l'autre en partant carrément de la page blanche 📓.
On a ensuite pris le temps de fouiller dans l'extension "Create Block Theme" 🔍, un petit bijou qui regorge d'options pour ajuster son thème comme on le souhaite. Et pour les fans du chic, je leur ai montré comment pimper leur site avec une belle police Google Font 🖋️.
Naviguer dans le menu d'édition de WordPress ? Un jeu d'enfant 🎮! L'onglet "Styles" est devenu notre terrain de jeu favori 🌈. Entre les astuces pour peaufiner le texte et donner un look d'enfer aux titres, on s'est bien amusé 🥳.

En esta charla Sergio explicará los últimos algoritmos de Google de forma más o menos somera y cómo afectan estos cambios a cómo se debe gestionar un proyecto en WordPress con sus peculiaridades.
Nos hablará de los tres grandes algoritmos de los últimos 3 años, es decir, Panda, Penguin y Hummingbird, teniendo como pilares principales estos temas:

Esta herramienta nos permite medir muchos más aspectos pero eso hace que cambie la manera de medir los datos y todo lo que podemos lograr. Debemos configurarla correctamente para sacarle jugo.
Para que podamos sacarle todo el partido a nuestra web hecha en Wordpress podemos apoyarnos en un plugin que bien configurado nos envía unos datos en GA4 no visibles por defecto y que son muy interesantes para el negocio, este plugin es GTM4WP.

Machete (https://es.wordpress.org/plugins/machete/) es una colección de herramientas ligeras y sencillas que solucionan molestias comunes de WordPress usando tan pocos recursos como sea posible. Machete no cubre todos los casos posibles de uso, pero hay una gran cantidad de sitios que necesitarían menos plugins si usaran Machete.
Meses después del lanzamiento del plugin, la segunda gran actualización está lista y será presentada en esta versión en exclusiva. Incluye nuevas optimizaciones, todo lo aprendido en esto meses.

Internationalization is the process of developing your application in a way it can easily be translated into other languages. WordPress is used all over the world, by people who speak many different languages. If you're building a plugin or theme, you need add any text strings in your code in such a way that they can be easily translated into other languages. The process of translating those strings is known as localization. In this session, we will define what Internationalization and localization is, why it's important, and show you examples of how to implement this in your code.

Styling blocks: empowering users with CSS custom properties
It's important not to be too prescriptive when developing blocks, and to allow users to have as much control as possible over the look and feel of the blocks on their websites.
In this edition of WordPress Developer Hours we talk about CSS custom properties (also known as CSS variables) and look at how you can leverage them in blocks to give users more control over the styling and presentation of their sites.
First up, Michael Burridge presents a solution to a common problem, i.e. how to allow users to have control over the styling of inner elements in blocks which have complex markup. While it's relatively simple to allow users to style a block at the root level, this presentation looks at how you can assign the values stored in block attributes to CSS custom properties and use them to apply user-defined styling to child-elements in both static and dynamic blocks.
Then, for the second presentation of the session, Justin Tadlock shows you how to integrate CSS custom properties into your block stylesheets that play nicely with themes. The technique used integrates block plugins and theme.json while still giving preference to user choice.
Whether you're just starting out with block development or have built dozens of blocks already, this WordPress Developer Hours session is for you, and you're sure to learn a ton.

Node.js is a cross-platform, open-source server environment that can run on most popular operating systems. Node.js lets developers use JavaScript to write command line tools and for server-side scripting. When you install Node.js on your operating system, it comes preinstalled with npm, a command line tool that allows developers to share and use software packages as dependencies in their own projects.
While not specifically a requirement for WordPress development, if you want to develop blocks, contribute to Gutenberg, or use modern tools like wp-env or wp-now, you will need to have Node.js and npm installed on your computer.

This Hallway Hangout was a casual conversation about building block themes with a special focus on enhancements coming in WordPress 6.3 and those planned for 6.4. We also discussed common challenges and pain points, reviewed existing solutions, and identified new improvements to WordPress that make block theming easier for developers and users alike.
The session began with a brief demonstration of the changes coming to the Site Editor in 6.3, notably page management and new editing flows. If you have begun building block themes for clients or are interested in block theming, this session is especially for you.
In this tutorial, you'll learn some advanced multisite topics, like exporting a sub-site to a single site install, or converting a multisite back to a single site install.
WordPress 6.2 introduced two new ways to add custom CSS to your site: a global CSS editor, and a per-block CSS editor. Both methods let you add CSS overrides directly in the Site Editor, in order to tweak the way your site looks. In this session we’ll cover the differences between the two types of editors, and how to use them effectively and appropriately.
We’ll also look at:
- A brief history of custom CSS in WordPress.
- The purpose of having custom CSS editors in the Site Editor in the first place; when to use them, and when not to.
- A cross-section of practical examples that you can put into action right away!

Normalmente, cuando afrontamos proyectos en los que hay trabajando varios tipos de perfiles diferentes, nos encontramos con un problema que a veces pasa desapercibido y es que entre perfiles tan diferentes como un diseñador y un desarrollador realmente la comunicación este siendo efectiva. En esta charla voy a compartir diferentes puntos claves para garantizar una comunicación efectiva entre estos perfiles y diferentes técnicas para ayudarnos a solventar posibles problemas ocasionados por estos errores de comunicación.
Las fases iniciales de cualquier proyecto web implican un estudio del usuario, la competencia, el mercado y otros aspectos relevantes que determinan el diseño de experiencia de usuario (UX). A veces, las previsiones realizadas no se ajustan a lo que nos encontramos y se impone un trabajo de optimización para pulir la interacción de nuestras visitas con el sitio. ¿De dónde se obtiene la información que nos permite crear hipótesis de mejora en nuestros diseños? ¿Cómo deberíamos interpretarla y aplicarla al diseño web? En esta charla nos iniciaremos en esos aspectos y conoceremos algunos casos prácticos de éxito, pero también de fracaso, tremendamente ilustrativos.
Todos sabemos que tenemos solo 3 segundos para ganar la atención de quien visite nuestra páginas web. No es mucho tiempo en absoluto, pero ¡hay esperanza todavía! Todos podemos ganar en la web, aprendiendo cómo utilizar mejor las fortalezas y limitaciones del cerebro humano. El conocimiento de cómo el cerebro humano procesa la información visual nos puede proporcionar una gran ayuda en la conquista de nuestros visitantes, haciendo que podamos llevarlos adonde queremos en vez de que se pierdan para siempre en el cyberspace. El entender como el cerebro humano interpreta las estimulaciones visuales hace que creamos diseños e ilustraciones que comunican bien nuestros mensajes, y que son eficaces tanto a nivel cognitivo como emocional. El resultado será una mejor experiencia de usuario, y mejor conversiones y ventas para nuestros clientes. Esta charla propone una breve introducción a estos fascinantes temas, con ejemplos prácticos que acompañan a la teoría.
A veces el mayor reto no es el proyecto en sí sino cómo trabajar en equipo de forma armoniosa a la par que productiva. Intentaremos contar de forma amena nuestra experiencia en el equipo de diseño de WordCamp Europe.

Quiero hablar de cómo enfocar la venta de los proyectos para conseguir rentabilidades muy altas y a la vez aportar mucho más a nuestros clientes. Un enfoque que es una consecuencia lógica e inteligente para cualquiera que quiere crecer como diseñador o desarrollador web, y romper tanto barreras de precios como barreras mentales propias para llegar ahí. Me centraría en la parte de venta y negociación de proyecto ante el cliente y también en cómo enfocar el propio servicio para aportar ese valor. Es decir, no hablaría de cómo anunciar tus servicios, sino qué es lo mejor que puedes hacer una vez que alguien ya se ha interesado por tus servicios.
A través de tres de ejemplos concretos, trataremos de definir estilos de programar un malware para un sitio web. Utilizaremos estos estilos para meternos en la mente de un ciberterrorista a la hora de decidir qué hacer en tres casos diferentes. Una oda sobre estilismo en tono satírico con moraleja sobre cibereseguridad.
En esta charla veremos cómo podemos utilizar WordPress para el diseño y creación de experiencias inmersivas, haciendo uso de bloques personalizados y librerías de código abierto orientadas al desarrollo de realidad virtual.
Viéndolo con mis años de experiencia puedo deciros que desarrollar con CSS es una auténtica delicia pero también soy consciente que puede resultar engorroso incorporar tantas definiciones para un principante en la tecnología. En esta charla te mostraré las puntos más importantes que hay que saber al empezar con CSS para que tengas un buen punto de partida y seas todo un profesional del Frontend. Mencionaré los conceptos de: – Herencia – Cascada – El Box-Model – Especificidad (y de cómo evitar los !important) – Asignar nombres a los elementos – Definir estructuras – Estructuras versus contenido
Para conseguir que el tamaño de la tipografía se adapte al dispositivo, antes usábamos media queries y declarábamos distintos tamaños de fuente según el ancho de la pantalla del dispositivo.
Actualmente, existe una manera más eficaz y más fácil de implementar: la tipografía fluida.

I’ll dream beyond today at what could be, where could we go, and what can we learn from the existing design systems? We will cover processes and tools to look at possible solutions to our problems today.

Content consistency is very important to site owners but implementing that is a complicated issue for developers to solve, with many reaching to third-party plugins.
In this workshop, geared towards developers, we will create a custom plugin that will define a configurable pre-publish checklist that must be met before content can be published.

The WordPress Block Directory is a category of free WordPress plugins that provide third-party WordPress blocks for use within the WordPress block editor.
Most of us realize how incredibly valuable and stress relieving having recurring revenue can be not only for our business but for our state of mind.
We tend to price it in our normal fashion though. There are other considerations that are often overlooked and this ends up with our recurring revenue being less profitable than we expected.
Understanding how to apply two simple concepts can ensure that our recurring revenue leads to higher profits with less stress.
This talk focuses on the future of Commerce and what it could look like with Full Site Editing (FSE).
It will give an overview of the Commerce landscape as it stands today and explore the impact that FSE could have on Commerce in WordPress.
Themes include the importance of personalization and customization and what is unlocked by FSE, how the approach to developing solutions for stores changes with the advent of FSE, and the great transition (the road from here to there).
In this talk, David will first give a whistle stop tour of the web3 universe – what is web3? What are DAOs, NFTs, smart contracts, Layer 2s and DeFi?
He’ll then move on to focus on why they matter to WordPress. What are potential disruptors? Should we be scared or excited? Or both? What are some of the things that will likely be challenging? What might some of the opportunities be? What can WordPress teach the web3 community in return?
David’s suspicion is that web3 will disrupt web2 (and humanity) to its core, helping us to ask good questions about the institutions we’ve built up and what we need going forward.
The talk will attempt to combine zoomed out, blue sky thinking with some practical advice and guidance as well as introducing a number of ways in which the WordPress community can learn more about web3 and start to get involved.
While WordPress is still the CMS with the largest market share by far, certain proprietary CMSs have been heavily catching up in the past few years.
Despite a much more limited feature set, they are gaining popularity, and much of that can be attributed to better user experience and performance.
Admittedly, proprietary CMSs hosted in a controlled environment and maintained by a single company have a much easier job improving performance, compared to an open-source CMS with a massive third-party ecosystem with over 60,000 plugins and themes like WordPress.
But exploring ways to enhance performance in WordPress at scale is crucial for long-term success and, with over 40% market share, should even be a responsibility towards the open web.
In late 2021, the official WordPress performance team was formed, to tackle monitoring, enhancing, and promoting performance in the WordPress ecosystem.
This session will take a closer look at the origin of the team, its focus areas and initial priorities, the goals achieved so far, the roadmap for the future, and how you can help.

Automating the deployment process is a must if we don’t want to spend our time worrying is everything working. During my workshops, I’ll show how to automate WordPress deployment and run all the tests.
Testing WordPress websites and applications can be time-consuming and labor-intensive. Yet, most people manually test their work in the browser… assuming they do any testing at all. Bring up automated testing and most people will write it off as complicated, a maintenance burden, or they simply don’t understand the value.
In this hands-on developer workshop, we will be learning to use Cypress, an end-to-end JavaScript testing framework that makes automated testing easy. Essentially, Cypress acts as a user on your website by visiting pages, filling out forms, and clicking buttons. It can also validate CSS, perform accessibility checks, and run tests across different viewport sizes and browsers.
The beauty of end-to-end testing is that tests are quicker to write and are more robust than any other type of testing. A unit test will only tell you if a function is working properly, but an end-to-end test can alert you if something in the code, the database, or even the design isn’t right. If you are new to testing, this is the place to start!

Using a VCS, you can quickly retrieve who made changes to a codebase, what they changed, and also when and where (and maybe even why) such changes were made. If you make a mistake, you can revert it in moments, but you can also go back in time and revise changes made five years ago! In this workshop, you’ll learn the very basics of how to use Git on the command line to manage a local codebase on your computer (such as the theme for a WordPress website), and how GitHub allows you to host your repositories remotely, so that you can easily share them with others, and even allow them to contribute to your project.
WordPress 6.0 “Arturo” was just released, and with it came many enhancements to the Site Editor and other Full Site Editing Features. One of the most exciting is the ability to export a complete theme from the Site Editor.
In this Social Learning Space, we will take the Twenty Twenty-Two theme and fully customize it using the Site Editor and Global Styles. This will include template changes, updates to the theme color palette, layout, and more. You will then learn how to export these changes into a complete custom theme.
