This week is focused on command of the classroom - what it means to be confident in knowledge of content, taking the time and opportunities to engage with students, and on looking for ways to build connections! The routines and systems of life in the classroom are starting to fall into place, and that comes with exciting times to focus on really investing into rewarding practices. Lots to learn, but progress is being made; maybe you'll learn something that benefits you along your journey!
This week is focused solely on relationship building and navigating tough life circumstances in/around the school and our students. Focused time is spent analyzing the context and situations that high schoolers live in on a daily basis, with some actionable steps to be a stable support for students in unpredictable times. Stick around for some Food for Thought on how to balance compassion and understanding for students' situations with maintaining high expectations for growth and achievement for their overall benefit!
This week is focused on the takeaways from delivering instruction for the first time, the different approaches to the curriculum/lesson planning process, and on a fantastic interaction with a student about taking chances on exploring what hobbies really click with you. This episode starts to deep-dive into some of the debates and personal autonomy that makes teaching such a unique and exciting profession - enjoy!
This week is focused on recognizing how important and valuable sports/extracurriculars are to school culture, the impact that "Teacher Presence" can have on a healthy learning environment, and (maybe most importantly) on a raging debate centered around fighting either chickens or gorillas. There's a lot left to be learned, but join me this week in starting to analyze some bigger-picture concepts and unique aspects of being in education!
