16 years ago, three-time ARIA-winning musician Yaron Hallis opened legendary underground Sydney venue Qirkz. It was followed by Camelot Lounge 4 years later, which has since become Sydney’s premiere intimate music venue.
As both musician and venue operator, Yaron observed that there was no dedicated music venue in the Lower Hunter Valley and he decided to reform the 110-year-old Denman Hotel in Abermain to Qirkz in the Hunter and give it a completely new life.

Recently, Bonnie and I attended the West Best Bloc Fest, a unique festival featuring over 70 artists. One of the big highlights of the day was capturing an electric set by a group of funk freaks called Saylor & The Flavor. They played at the Star Hotel and the screams and applause of the crowd was thunderous. Like me, the audience was gobsmacked by the songs, the skills of the femme bongo player and the sheer energy of what was happening on stage. They’re relatively new to the scene but they ARE going to make a big splash and be playing to full houses soon. Adam Miller is recognised not just locally but internationally as one of the finest guitar maestro’s in the world. Queer and Now ia a local not-for-profit organisation that aids in bringing the queer arts to notice and supports social connections within the community. His success as a solo artist and as a member of Soundgarden, Audioslave and Temple Of The Dog resulted in millions of record sales and streams around the world. His legacy, particularly his role in the creation of the Seattle Sound, lives on since his death in 2017. Now, five of Newcastle’s finest musicians have joined forces to form The Chris Cornell Concept - a band that is more than a tribute to the great singer. Long regarded as Australia’s premier rock guitarist, even though he’s a Kiwi, Kevin Borich first came to prominence as a member of the La De Das in 1971 with the hit single “Gonna See My Baby Tonight”. That band split in 1975. He then launched the Kevin Borich Express with the classic Celebration album in 1977 that contained songs like Goin’ Somewhere and Goin’ Down Town. Now, he has just released his triple album Legacy and ahead of a local show this weekend, we welcome to The Good Stuff, the legendary Kevin Borich . . .
Josh Pyke, it seems, was always meant to be a singer/songwriter. He performed in his first band by the age of 12 and, by 14, he was playing guitar ad writing his won songs.
