We’ll look at that in our Thought of the Day. And in our interview segment, we’ll explore this question: Is there an actual scientific method for attaining happiness? We’ll discuss that with Shane Ram. That and more on today’s show. Bob's Thought of the Day We’ll explore: A powerful quote often attributed to Mark Twain (although the chances are excellent that he didn’t actually say it): “The two most important days of your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.” The two parts of finding out our individual mission. Why we tend to find it difficult to be truly happy when we don’t have a reason for being.
Interview with Shane Ram You’ll discover: How Shane defines happiness. Why purpose and goals are closely related to happiness. How Shane’s mindset as a child helped him overcome challenges. Why Shane did not label himself as poor when he was a child. The importance of understanding how happiness in one area of your life affects every other area of your life. The TEAR formula: Thoughts + Emotions + Actions = Results. Why you must ensure that the goals you are pursuing line up with your purpose. The reason most people keep getting the same results over and over. Why conformity is so dangerous. Click to Tweet The highest emotional target is #happiness. @iamshaneram #Happiness comes from pursuing #goals that are purposeful. @iamshaneram On this episode, we explore the TEAR formula: Thoughts + Emotions + Actions = Results. @iamshaneram #happiness

I’ve decided to take a look back over the last 100 episodes and feature 5 episodes that centered around one of my favorite topics.
These episodes each touch on a topic I think is so important, I ask a question related to it of nearly every guest that comes on the show.
I’m talking about communicating, relating, and, more specifically, public speaking. The art of public speaking and the ability to relate effectively to other people is as important, in my view, as any skill you can hone. In fact, if I weren’t doing the Read to Lead podcast, I’d likely be doing a public speaking-related show. Maybe someday.

Subscribe: iTunes | Stitcher | RSS
In this special episode, my guests and I dig into topics like:
What it means to “perform” in the context of public speaking, job interviews, or presentations
Why simple is better when it comes to preparing your next talk
How not to be among the many who are simply bad at presenting
…and plenty more!

Published on 06 Dec 2011. For those of you who suffer from carrying too much with you on a regular basis, or feeling the clutter of technology accumulate on your desk or around the house over time, think about these three questions to see if you can simplify your technology infrastructure.1- How often do you use each of the devices you own? Like with your wardrobe, if you haven't worn it this year, it's likely you won't use it next year. 2- Can you consolidate functionality? If you've had a printer, scanner and fax machine sitting around your office or home office for several years, now might be the time to think about consolidating to a wireless, network multi-function printer/scanner/copier and getting a service such as MyFax or eFax that allows you to send/receive faxes by email. This will reduce the devices, clutter and gives you more telecommunications options.3- Are there new Cloud-based technologies that help you become more device-independent? For example, if you carry a smartphone and an MP3 player, you may want to try out Google Music (the new Web-based music player hosts up to 20,000 of your songs for free so you can access them anywhere) by going to music.google.com and phasing out the extra device. The beauty of living in an age of advanced technology is that you can also streamline, so why not take advantage! I HOPE YOU ENJOYED THIS EPISODE OF PRODPOD. Published on 05 May 2017. Jack Schwager is author of the Market Wizards series and just completed his second edition of A Complete Guide to the Futures Markets: Fundamental Analysis, Technical Analysis, Trading, Spreads, and Options. Jack has gone into great detail updating his 1984 original edition with over 600 pages of educational insights.
At the beginning of his trading career technical analysis never made much sense. However, as he worked in markets over the years, he came to see that those who used charts and technical analysis tended to make more money. He also saw that fundamental analysis almost goes against the idea of money management. He found that the same went for risk management: How does risk management work with a truly fundamental perspective? It doesn’t for most.
The basics of futures trading for most is fuzzy. Jack gives a short summation of the basics: 1. Futures are very liquid. 2. They trade for every type of instrument you could think of. 3. You can go short or long just as easy. 4. Futures are truly a zero sum game. 5. They are real markets and have real fundamentals pushing trends. 6. Basic trends do have some sort of rational behind them in futures markets and the skilled fundamental players will beat the unskilled players if they are good at assessing probabilities. Michael and Jack finish talking about trading as an art vs. science, whipsaws, failure to exploit major trends, drawdowns and the efficient market hypothesis. In this episode of Trend Following Radio: Fundamentals vs. Technical analysis Risk management Contrarian view on fundamentals Charting Science vs. art in trading Whipsaws Exploiting trends Sharpe ratio Efficient market hypothesis

And to think that we have compounds that could play such an important role that are really facing challenges in getting approved, I just find that really frustrating." — Dr. Peter Attia
This is a special episode and features one of my dear friends.
A number of guests have started incredible podcasts after being on this show as their first-ever podcast interview, including legendary Navy SEAL commander Jocko Willink.
What people don't know is that Jocko was introduced to me by a fella named Peter Attia.
Dr. Peter Attia (TW: @PeterAttiaMD, IG: @peterattiamd, peterattiamd.com) is a former ultra-endurance athlete (e.g., swimming races of 25 miles), a compulsive self-experimenter, and one of the most fascinating human beings I know. He is one of my go-to doctors for anything performance or longevity-related. He is also easily the best quarterback and sherpa for the US medical system I've ever met.
But here is his official bio to do him justice:
Peter is the founder of Attia Medical, PC, a medical practice with offices in San Diego and New York City, focusing on the applied science of longevity.
Peter trained for five years at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in general surgery, where he was the recipient of several prestigious awards, including resident of the year, and the author of a comprehensive review of general surgery. He also spent two years at NIH as a surgical oncology fellow at the National Cancer Institute where his research focused on immune-based therapies for melanoma. He has since been mentored by some of the most experienced and innovative lipidologists, endocrinologists, gynecologists, sleep physiologists, and longevity scientists in the United States and Canada.
Peter earned his M.D. from Stanford University and holds a B.Sc. in mechanical engineering and applied mathematics.
In our conversation in this episode, Peter actually interviews me, though he shares a lot of his own experiences. It is audio from Peter's incredible podcast, The Peter Attia Drive, which can be found on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or anywhere podcasts are found. It is one of the few podcasts I listen to regularly.
Many friends I've shared this particular episode with have now listened to it multiple times. It takes us both a few minutes to warm up, but then it goes really deep. These are many of things people like Peter and I aren't supposed to talk about publicly.
Please enjoy!

Published on 22 Aug 2018. Episode 118 has a radio show format. In this one, we cover numerous Tweets of the Week from Meb, as well as some write-in questions. We start by discussing articles Meb posted in his Tweets of the Week. These include a piece by Jason Zweig about how your broker might be making 10-times more money off your cash balance than you could make on it. Then there’s discussion of valuations – a chart by Leuthold shows how one measure of US market valuation has matched its 2000 level, and another has doubled it. At the same time, Longboard released a chart referencing a Goldman market outlook that claims “in 99% of the time at current valuation levels, equity returns have been single digit or negative”. We talk about US valuations and when “selling” might trump buy-and-hold. Then we jump to foreign valuations. GMO believes emerging markets are the biggest opportunity relative to other assets in the past 20+ years. Meb clarifies what this really means. Then there’s discussion of home country geographic sector bias, whether the VC market is in a bubble (Meb tells us about some bad behavior he’s beginning to see in the space), and how the American savings rate is pretty grim. We then get into listener Q&A. Some that you’ll hear Meb address include: Are momentum funds just camouflaging another factor? For instance, if Value became the “in” factor, wouldn’t Momentum pick it up, so Momentum would then just look like a Value fund? Assuming the U.S. economy does not enter a recession in the near future, the Shiller PE’s 10-year earnings average will soon consist of all economic boom and no bust as the depressed earnings of 2008 and 2009 roll out of its calculation. How useful is a CAPE that only includes a period of profit expansion? Regarding your global value strategy, have you ever tested the strategy using relative CAPE ratios versus absolute to determine country allocations in order to avoid countries with structurally low CAPE ratios? I've never heard of a 401k plan offering ETF options. Is there a reason logistically, legally, etc. that prevents 401k plans from offering ETF options? How do I structure my portfolio for a 4% yield, after tax? I like your shareholder yield strategy, but if I get capital returned through buybacks and share appreciation, how do I get monthly income without selling shares and triggering taxes? I just don't see how I can implement a monthly income plan with this strategy. All this and more in Episode 118.

Josh Luber is a “sneakerhead,” a collector of rare or limited sneakers. In 2016, Luber connected with Quicken Loans founder (and Cleveland Cavs owner) Dan Gilbert, who was independently putting his own team together to create a “stock market of things” — essentially, an online platform that would establish a true market value for pretty much anything that someone might want to buy. The two joined forces to create StockX, with sneakers as their first market. Less than two years later the company has grown from six employees to more than 200.
Prior to StockX, Luber founded Campless, which has been described as the “Kelley Blue Book for sneakers” while working as an IBM consultant. A “sneakerhead data” company, Campless tracks the secondary market for sneaker sales, a $6 billion global industry. The company has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, London Financial Times and CNN Money.

Robo Advisors Betterment (see my interview with Betterment founder Jon Stein) and Wealthfront believe they can but today's guest, Aaron Klein, co-founder of Riskalyze, believes those firms have it all wrong.
Aaron's firm tackles the risk tolerance and portfolio risk challenge from a different angle by utilizing concepts borrowed from Prospect Theory. Prospect Theory was developed by Daniel Kahneman and Amos Tversky and essentially says, "People value gains and losses differently and, as such, will base decisions on perceived gains rather than perceived losses. Thus, if a person were given two equal choices, one expressed in terms of possible gains and the other in possible losses, people would choose the former." Source.
We had a fascinating discussion about how investors deal with risk and we capped it off with some thoughts about the future of the financial advice business. Aaron has strong opinions and he has the smarts to back them up. Don't miss this episode with Aaron Klein of Riskalyze.

Published on 30 Aug 2017. In Episode 69, we welcome legendary angel investor, Jason Calacanis. We start with Jason’s background. From Brooklyn, he worked his way through college, then was in New York at the breaking of the internet. He started his own blogging company, and eventually sold his business for $30M. Later, he landed at Sequoia Capital as part of its “scouts” program, and went on to be an angel investor in a handful of unicorns (a startup company valued at over $1B). As the conversation turns to angel investing, Meb starts broadly, asking Jason about the basics of angel investing. Jason defines it as individuals investing in companies before the venture capital guys get involved (before a Series A). He tells us that the more you can analyze a company through data, the lesser chance it’s an angel investment. That’s because to get the huge returns that come through a true angel investment, there has to be some level of risk (in part, related to having less data-driven information about a company’s financials). So, the challenge is to find that “Goldilocks” period – before revenues are so high that a VC is interested, but after a startup company has launched a product and shown a hint of traction (so many early stage companies end up failing even to launch a product). When you time your investment in this manner, you reduce your downside risk. Meb makes a parallel to traditional equity investing, where only a handful of stocks make up the majority of overall market gains. He suggests this dynamic is likely even more exaggerated in angel investing. Jason agrees. That’s why he suggests you want to go slow at the beginning, ramping up as you learn more, building your network, and growing your deal-flow. But when you get it right, it can result in massive wealth. Or as Jason says, “I think that this is a little secret way… a dark art of becoming truly wealthy… massive wealth.” Meb points the conversation toward a section of Jason’s book which made the point that to get started in angel investing, you need at least one of four things: money, time, expertise, or a great network. He asks Jason to expound. So, Jason provides us some color on these different angel-factors. This dovetails into how much of your net worth should be allocated toward angel investments. It’s a great conversation diving into the math of various net-worth-percentages, and how a couple of investment-winners can have a profound impact on your overall wealth. Meb tells us about his own early-stage investing experience, and how the contagious optimism is exciting. Meb asks what are some resources and places to go for more information. Jason points toward doing some syndicate deals. By doing so, you can read the deal memos, and track the investments even if you never actually invest. It’s a great way to learn – Jason uses the analogy of playing fantasy baseball. The guys go on to discuss ways to grow your network through other syndicate investors. A bit later, Meb asks about pitch meetings when company founders are looking for money. What’s your role as a potential investor in these meetings? Jason likes to ask the question “What are you working on?” He then provides some great reasons why this question is effective. A follow-up question is “Why now?” In essence, what has changed that makes this moment right for your business? For example, for Uber, it was GPS on phones. Curious what the “why now?” of the moment is? Robotics is one of them. Jason gives us a couple others (but you’ll have to listen to discover what they are). The conversation drifts into how to exit your angel investment (or invest more). Jason says if you have a breakout success you want to quadruple down. For instance, if a big VC like Sequoia is thinking about investing, you’d definitely want to jam as much money in as possible. The guys then discu

Since Seth and I first talked, he blogged about similar topics and even linked to Read to Lead in his post. Uh, yeah, I was thrilled to say the least.
If you don’t know his work, Seth is the author of 18 bestsellers that have been translated into 35 languages. His latest is What to do When it’s Your Turn (and it’s Always Your Turn). He’s the founder of several companies, a member of the Direct Marketing Hall of Fame and an influential speaker around the world.
He writes about treating people with respect, the changing economy and ideas that spread. Mostly, he creates projects, many of which end up failing.

Published on 22 May 2018. I came across this week’s guest thanks to the overlap of three passions of mine: data informed investing, value creation, and basketball. Sam Hinkie worked for more than a decade in the NBA with the Houston Rockets, and then most recently as the President and GM of the Philadelphia 76ers. He helped launch basketball's analytics movement when he joined the Houston Rockets in 2005, and is known for unique trade structuring and a keen focus on acquiring undervalued players. Today, he is also an investor and advisor to a limited number of young companies in which he feels his experience can improve outcomes. At one point in our conversation, Sam mentions that he tracked success via future financial outcomes, so I did some research and found many interesting stats about the 76ers surrounding Sam’s tenure. When he took over the franchise, it was 24th in ESPN’s franchise rankings, and today it is 4th. This is the result of an impressive crop of young talent—players like All-Star Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons—which resulted in large part from unconventional decisions Sam and his team made. While I’m sure these estimates are imperfect, Forbes estimated the 76ers value at around $418M when Sam took over and $1.2B a few months ago. NBA teams in general have grown in value, so a lot of that appreciation is obviously “beta,” but given that the 76ers had the top percentage growth number more recently of any team, some of it is “alpha,” too. While we can’t parse the exact amount, it seems his unique approach to building a team clearly created some large amount of current franchise equity value. And it looks like the dividends from those decisions will compound for many years to come. While basketball was where Sam plied his talents in the past, his approach is more elemental. It is about finding great people, using data, and structuring decisions that create the possibility of huge returns, be they financial or otherwise. I don’t know what Sam will do next, be it investing in companies, running one, or taking over another team, but I know it will be fun to watch. Please enjoy this unique episode with Sam Hinkie. Denver has run every phase of training for the U.S. Navy SEALs and led special-forces missions in the Middle East, Africa, Latin America, and other international hot spots. He starred in the hit film Act of Valor, which is based on true SEAL adventures. His New York Times bestseller, Damn Few: Making the Modern SEAL Warrior, takes you inside his personal story and the fascinating, demanding SEAL training program. In his second book Worth Dying For: A Navy SEALs Call to a Nation, Rorke tackles the questions that have emerged about America’s past decade at war–from what makes a hero to why we fight and what it does to us. Rorke was most recently seen on FOX’s American Grit. The series followed 16 of the country’s toughest men and women as they faced a variety of military-grade and survival-themed challenges set in the wilderness. An assistant officer in charge of BRAVO Platoon at SEAL Team THREE, he was deployed to SOUTCOM, the Central and South American Area of Operations. His platoon was the “alert” SEAL team for maritime interdiction, hostage rescue, counter-insurgency, and counter-narcotics. As SEAL officer aboard, Denver led his group’s response to a murderous uprising in the Ivory Coast nation of Liberia, launching advanced-force operations, conducting hydrographic beach reconnaissance, and helping to get U.S. Marines safely ashore. In 2006, Denver was an officer in charge of BRAVO Platoon of SEAL Team THREE in Iraq’s Al Anbar Province in one of the most combat-heavy deployments of any regular SEAL team since Vietnam. Stationed in Habbaniya, his team conducted over 200 missions including sniper operations, direct assaults, special reconnaissance, and ground patrols. Denver’s team has been widely credited with propelling the “Tribal Awakening” that helped to neutralize Iraq’s insurgency. Denver was awarded the Bronze Star with “V” for valorous action in combat. After returning to the United States, Denver was appointed flag lieutenant to Admiral Joseph Maguire, commanding officer of Naval Special Warfare, traveling to Afghanistan and briefing Congress on SEAL operations. In 2009, he became First Phase officer of SEAL Basic Training including Hell Week, then rose to Basic Training officer. He went on to run all phases of training including advanced sniper, hand-to-hand fighting, communications, diving, and language. Denver is the founder of Ever Onward, a fresh, new brand designed to use Navy SEAL principles to call leaders to take action, to suffer, and to be bold so they can perform at their highest levels. He is a highly-sought after speaker to companies and organizations and provides numerous innovative products and services to help teams and individuals live and perform at higher levels. Denver is an honor graduate of the United States Army Ranger School. From the opening of Union Square Cafe in 1985 through Shake Shack’s IPO in 2014 and beyond, Meyer’s restaurants have shaken up the industry’s norms. New York’s fine dining establishment didn’t really focus on customer service and restaurants generally didn’t offer their staff benefits before Meyer arrived on the scene.
Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group continued to push boundaries of American dining by eliminating tipping from the Michelin-starred The Modern in late 2015, with plans to extend it to all 13 of its restaurants over time. And starting in 2017, the firm will offer paid parental leave to its full-time restaurant workers, extending a benefits package rarely seen in the industry that has long-included health insurance, life insurance and a matching 401(k) plan.
Meyer’s personal background makes him an unlikely revolutionary but it’s clear he’s become one of the most important American restaurateurs of the past 30 years because of a relentless focus on the dining experience for everyone in the restaurant, from customers to employees to suppliers and everyone in between.

One of the major points is that Loyalty is at least as much a leadership issue and responsibility as it is a talent issue. Our guest today is… Scott Love: Scott talks to this challenge head on in his new book: “Why They Follow” how to lead with positive influence. Scott Love shows managers how to be the kind of leader that nobody wants to leave. With over 20 years of empirical research, he gives managers tactical ideas to lead in a way that increases employee retention, reduces turnover, and attracts high achievers.
He is a successful entrepreneur, professional keynote speaker, and as I said the author of “Why They Follow,” Scott Love is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.

Published on 04 Jul 2016. Why curiosity may be your most important leadership quality. What does it mean to be curious. Are you interesting or interested? Are there any REAL Leaders left? Before I answer, I have to ask another question: Do you want to hear the absolute truth? I’m talking about the raw truth and definitely Not some buttered up, make it sound better than it is bunch of B.S. What I’m talking about is just you and me, sitting across the table from each other speaking our truth. (A word of caution…. What you are about to read will likely piss some people off. Maybe even you!) If you are ready to hear the absolute truth then I’m here to tell you that… There are no REAL Leaders anymore. Don’t believe me? Take a look around. You and I both know that leadership in its present form is a about as effective as a Jell-O© bullet. The problem is, we’ve been trained to believe someone is a leader because of position, title or accumulation of goodies, and it’s about time we realized; that’s not “real” leadership. So let’s boil leadership down to its core… You are a leader if you have people who have consciously decided to follow you. Note that I said consciously. That means they aren’t following you because they have to, they’re supposed to, or for any other reason than you, their leader, are the example of the way they want to be! So let’s take a look at some so-called leaders we have today. Read more: http://fullmontyleadership.com/authentic-leadership/no-real-leaders-left/

Why do so many industrial and B2B companies fail with email marketing? In my opinion, it’s because they do not understand the proper role of email in the B2B marketing mix.
All too often, companies make the mistake of treating email as a prospecting tool — sending unsolicited emails to people they don’t know, about products that are of no interest to them. In other words, they are spammers. Another shortcoming occurs when companies use broadcast email only as a sales tool — blasting offers and promotions to customers, often in a non-targeted way. While this may produce a few sales hits here and there, it’s not the best way to build relationships with customers. To be truly successful with email marketing, think of email as a nurturing tool — a tool for growing and strengthening existing relationships with customers and prospects who have reached out to you. One of the best ways to nurture relationships with email is by producing an educational email newsletter. Email marketing with a monthly e-newsletter offers you an opportunity to build an ongoing, interactive dialogue with your B2B customers and prospects in a measurable, cost-effective way. Not only can an e-newsletter demonstrate value to your customers, but also it can change your customers’ perception of your business.
By sending timely articles that solve current business problems, you show your customers that you understand them and their needs. This repeatedly reinforces their importance to you and builds their trust in your company. To ensure your email newsletter is a successful business-building tool, I recommend you leverage the following five best practices.
The key to effective email marketing lies in a notion known as “permission marketing.” Your email newsletter should build goodwill with your customers, not annoy them. Therefore, you should obtain permission from your customers and prospects before adding them to your email marketing mailing list. Make sure you have an obvious email signup form on your every page of your Website.
Also, any time you speak with a customer or prospect, let them know about the value they will get from your email newsletter and ask permission to add them to your list.
Your email newsletter is not for you – it’s for your customers. You need to focus less on your company and more on the issues and ideas your customers are interested in. I like articles that focus on “how to” tips, best practices and actionable strategies. To help get you started, the following are examples of customer-focused email newsletter content:
Problems and solutions — Identify common problems your customers face and provide ideas on how to solve them.
Lists and tips — Provide actionable lists and tips with titles that begin like “Seven Steps to…” or “The Top Five Ways to…”
Technological developments — Inform your customers on how they can take advantage of recent technological developments to be more effective.
Industry news and trends — Write about new developments in your industry that your customers can take advantage of.
Case studies — Write case studies of how others have improved their operations. Make sure to include actionable details your customers can put to work to produce results.
Make sure your articles are short and scannable. The best email newsletter

She has appeared on Barron’s list of the Top 100 Women Financial Advisors and Top 100 Independent Financial Advisors multiple times. And she’s also an author who just released her second book, “Seven Figure Firm.” But maybe more impressive than Erin’s resume is the hardship she had to overcome to get where she is today. Erin was only 11 when her father died of a heart attack. The small life insurance policy he left behind made life very hard for Erin, her mother, and her five siblings. A car accident in her teenage years and a bad investment with a stockbroker in her early 20s put further strain on Erin’s family life and finances. These experiences taught Erin the value of comprehensive financial planning and asset protection, lessons she continues to impart to her clients. On today’s show, Erin discusses her compelling story, the personal and financial lessons she took away from her adversities, and how she built her own seven figure firm from scratch.

Published on 03 Nov 2017. Step 1. Make Your Habit Tiny
These are the smallest behaviors that matter. A tiny habit has to be:
A behavior you do at least once a day.
Takes you less than 30 seconds to do.
Requires little effort.
Is relevant to the full behavior.
If you don’t make your behavior tiny, to begin with, you will almost certainly fail to create a new daily habit.
For example, if you start out running one hour each day, you won’t create a habit of exercise.
But if you commit to putting on your running shoes, you are, as Leo Babauta would comment, “making it so easy, you can’t say no”. [4]
Later – perhaps months later – you can expand on your habit. But when you do, the larger behaviour will be easier. Why? Because the more you do something, the easier it becomes.
Consider all of your existing habits. They are all easy to do because you’ve practiced them for thousands of hours. Soon, your new habit will be no different.
Step 2. Do Your Tiny Habit Immediately after an Existing Behaviour
The next step is to identify an existing habit. This is going to be the cue that triggers your new behavior.
Ask yourself: “What behavior do I always do, regardless of how I feel?”
This can include waking up, showering, going to the bathroom and brushing your teeth, to name a few.
You need to know what your tiny behavior comes “after”. For example: “After I brush my teeth, I’m going to floss one tooth”.
Step 3. Celebrate Small Wins
The final step is to celebrate doing your new habit. You may find this approach weird, but it works, because the ability to self-reinforce good behavibehaviore key to rapid habit formation.
You can speed up the process of habit formation by experiencing positive emotions about your tiny habit the moment you remember to do your tiny habit sequence and after you do it.
When I build a new habit, I physically rehearse the sequence a few times, each time declaring victory. This gets your brain wired to remember it.
For example, my newest tiny habit is doing two press-ups after I’ve meditated. I sit down to meditate (cue), then I get in the position to do a push-up (routine) and finally, I celebrate my tiny success by patting myself on the back (reward). I repeat this sequence a few times until I’ve got it down pat.
There are multiple ways you can celebrate tiny successes. You can do a physical movement like a thumbs up. Say a word or phrase like “Awesome!” internally or out loud. Or move your face to look happy like smiling in the mirror. Whatever you do, make it personal to you.
Conclusion
Every day, just do your tiny behaviour immediately after the existing behaviour you’ve chosen and remember to celebrate. Here, your brain and body is learning a sequence. “After I X, I do Y and I feel Z”. For example, “After I meditate, I do two push-ups and I feel awesome!”
Note, that in this step, you are learning to put a new behaviour into your routine. You are not learning the behaviour itself.
Let me explain. Suppose you want to floss daily. You already know how to do it. But what you don’t know is how to do it regularly. You haven’t mastered putting flossing into your routine as an automatic action – yet. But tiny habits will help you do that.
The more you train this new routine, the more the new behaviour will automatise and become the new normal.
Learn how to implement tiny habits in your daily routine and soon, others will marvel at the apparent ease you became a master yourself—a master of habit.

Published on 02 Nov 2017. Top 3 Marketing Mistakes That Will Cost You Lots of Money
1 - Confusing a Tactic with a Strategy
Many companies' marketing isn't working because they focus on a tactic without an overarching strategy.
Marketing is complex and requires the deployment of multiple tactics in concert towards a strategic goal. A tactic that works today is unlikely to continue to work over the long run without an understanding of how that tactic fits into the marketing ecosystem to achieve a desired result.
2 - Not Being Consistent
Marketing is about consistency.
A consistent look and feel to your materials, the tone of your brand language and the cadence that you produce and publish content is the only way to achieve good results.
If you hire a stellar agency to create lead generation assets but don't update your brand (e.g. website, logo, product materials) or overall message you are setting yourself up for failure.
Your marketing establishes the initial impression your customer has of your company and you must carry that brand promise through the experience of delivering your product or service.
3 - Not Addressing Your Customer's True Motivation
You have likely heard this before, but very few companies get it right: Your customer does not buy what you specifically sell.
Your higher value proposition is found in understanding the very basic need your company addresses for your customer:
· Do you help them sleep better at night?
· Will your product or service get them a promotion or raise at work?
· Do you give them more free time, make their life easier or address a fundamental problem?
You are close to your business and likely need an outsider perspective to get this right. I find company owners' focus too much on "what" they do and they don't go deep enough with customers to find out "why" customers truly buy.

Today's guest, Scott Hanson of Hanson McClain, built the firm with his partner Pat McClain the old-fashioned way--one client at a time.
Using gorilla-marketing tactics, a radio show, and smart marketing, these guys built a $2 billion RIA with about 4,000 clients and an average account size of $500,000. Similar to Edelman Financial Services, Scott and Pat built a hugely successful RIA with relatively modest size clients.

When I asked Ric what the next 10 years looks like, he said, “10X. Add a zero to everything.”
What’s even more impressive than the raw numbers Ric has generated to date is how he did it--through organic growth.
Ric leveraged his journalism background and became a massive media star spanning multiple bestselling books, a nationally syndicated radio show, and a popular television show. Through educating the public, Ric Edelman gained trust and the clients followed by the thousands.

Nobody can accurately and consistently predict the future but by observing and curating ideas, you can uncover accelerating trends, see things other people miss, and position your business to profit from these upcoming opportunities. In 1982, John Naisbitt wrote a book called Megatrends. It became a huge bestseller and he made the term "high tech high touch" a household phrase that we still use today. Unfortunately, Naisbitt's trends were so big and unfolded over decades that they weren't immediately actionable. In steps Rohit Bhargava. Rohit publishes a yearly book called Non-Obvious: How to Think Different, Curate Ideas and Predict the Future. Rohit says, "A great trend is a unique curated observation about the accelerating present. Great trends are never predictions about the world 20 years from now. Those are most often guesses or wishful thinking." Another trend forecaster, Chris Sanderson, describes trends as “profits waiting to happen.” That's clever but to turn trends into profits, you have to act on them. In today's show, Rohit and I discuss some of the non-obvious accelerating trends he sees happening right now. We then talk about how to apply those trends to the work financial advisors do.

Published on 14 Jun 2017. Tevin Farmer, The world-class super featherweight, fighting at the Liacouras Center with Joel Embiid sitting at ringside, beat gutsy Arturo Santos Reyes by a unanimous 10-round decision, but tore his right biceps in the process.
The injury will probably set Farmer, who moved to 25-4-1, with 5 KOs, back probably four months. Farmer, who extended his winning streak to 18-straight fights, tore his biceps tendon in the second round. His goal is to have surgery this coming week to repair it and look toward the future.
“There was pain there every time I threw the right hook,” said Farmer, a southpaw. “I’ll take this as a learning experience. This doesn’t stop anything. I’m still good. I did everything with one hand for nine rounds. (Reyes) better have given me good work. I was fighting with one hand.”
Farmer won easily by scores of 98-94, 97-93 and 96-94 on the judge’s scorecards.
Reyes (19-8, 5 KOs) was a game opponent. He kept coming at Farmer, and there were a few times when he connected. But for the most part, Farmer was in control from start to finish.
On the undercard, budding star Branden Pizarro (5-0, 2 KOs) won a four-round lightweight decision over Chris Gutierrez (0-3).
“It wasn’t difficult at all,” Pizarro said. “(Gutierrez) didn’t want to fight. When I touched him with my right in the first round, he didn’t know what to do. He tried to get in my mind. He tried talking to me. He cursed at me. I just laughed at him.”

It also happens to be the first episode where I've ever actually read a letter to you, word-for-word. Please allow me to explain... As I was preparing for my next live coaching session on "HOLISTIC HAPPINESS" for the Best Year Ever Coaching program, I came across an article I wrote in 2008 for Bliss Magazine, "How to Choose Happiness." The article (and this podcast episode) is based on a letter I received from Katie, a woman who was feeling hopeless, telling me about her depression and why she simply can't be happy. In today's podcast episode, you'll hear me read Katie's letter, followed by my response, and then her final, unexpected, and truly inspiring conclusion, about how applying the advice in my letter completely shifted her perspective, opened her eyes to new possibilities, and enabled her to immediately begin to transcend her depression. I sincerely hope this episode makes a profound impact for you, or someone you know, the way that it did for Katie.

Published on 28 Nov 2016. Danny Meyer was a disruptor before it was cool, and remains one today.
