Lulu might be a dog from the deep Texas coast but rolling around in the snow sure is her thing.
IItwasn't a heavy accumulation overnight but just enough for a little Texas snowplow action.

I came across this fellow sunning itself under the warming morning sun on my way out to the goldfields near Stanton, Arizona. I didn't want it to get run over by some other car so I encouraged it to get off the road. Definately not a happy camper as it assumed an aggressive posture and rattled loudly but eventually retreated to the safety of the scrub.
(Unfortunately it was very windy so it's hard to hear the buzzing of its rattles)

This rattlesnake might only be about a foot in length but it already had a disagreeable disposition and wasn't happy to be disturbed while warming itself in the early Spring sun. Although just a youngster this rattler is not something to be messed with.

A few minutes of peace in the beautiful town of Spearfish. Although not a "natural" waterfall as it was created when the small park was created a number of years ago it is still a beautiful spot to sit and relax.

Spearfish Falls is one of the three waterfalls located in Spearfish Canyon in the Northern Black Hills region near Spearfish, SD. At one time the creek was diverted to produce power for the Homestake Mine and the falls were dry. Now the falls have returned to their former beauty with the power plant idled for years and the water flow in Spearfish Creek returned to its normal flow.

Each year up to 50,000 Snow Geese (Anser caerulescens) and the similar Ross Geese (Anser rossii) overwinter at the Bosque del Apache NWR near San Antonio, NM. Here they spend the days feeding on grains and grasses in the flooded marshes to fatten up and gather their energy for the long migration back to their Summer breeding grounds in northern Canada. Here a flock is at the main viewing pond off the North Loop Road near the main entrance into the refuge. In a few short weeks they will depart on the long flight north. Enjoy.

During the winter months the Bosque del Apache in New Mexico provides food and shelter to thousands of these magnificent birds as well as many other migrating waterfowl. Here a flock is enjoying feeding on the cut corn fields in the northern part of the refuge.

It's always bittersweet to look back sometimes. My old girl Bella was a great companion back when I was away from my family while working up in Colorado. It's great to look back at good times, especially when all you needed was a Lab and her ball in a city park.

Hundreds of turkeys populate the fields and forests of the Bosque del Apache NWR. They can be found frequently in large groups looking for corn and grains throughout the refuge.

Come along to the Bosque del Apache NWR in New Mexico and watch as the Sandhill Cranes return at dusk to their roosting ponds after spending the day feeding in the many fields in and around the refuge.

It was always fun to watch my Lab Bella playing around in the snow. Even when she was an old girl last winter she still acted like the puppy. Whether it was the snow in winter or a creek in the summer, Labs and water were made for each other.

Looking back at Lulu when she was a young stray puppy that was dumped near our RV. She just had her third birthday with us and has grown into a wonderful girl. Here she was on her first trip to the ocean when we brought her down to the Gulf near Galveston, Texas with her big sister Bella.

Hard to imagine that it's been three years since Lulu was a stray that someone dumped near our RV site down in the Texas bayou country but good fortune brought her to us (in the Chinese Year of the Dog no less!!!). The scared and wet little puppy we found has turned into a chunky and quirky fur ball who brings us joy and a bit of laughter every day.

Some more memories of the good times my dearest Bella. Bella was a true Lab from the Dakotas - life was best when she could be splashing in the water or romping through the snow. Here she was doing her "I'm not a Labrador Retriever, I'm a Snowball Retriever daddy!!" Miss you my old friend.

My old girl Bella might have been a yellow Lab but some days she just wanted to act silly (insert your favorite Blonde joke here). Give her a rock to chase after and she was a happy girl for hours on end.
Hope you have lots of rocks to chase over the Rainbow Bridge.

Just looking back on the good times with my sweet yellow Lab Bella. Always all too eager to help me in the yard or garden, especially if it meant trying to dig her way to China. Miss the old girl.
