Grief should not be avoided. But there is a chance that things like grief, anger, lust, anxiety, or depression may be blocking you from seeing the world with a risen savior. This one is exciting! Join us with our teacher Ryan Brown as we discuss two miracles for two daughters. Imagine having a chronic painful issue that no doctor could explain or solve. Some of you may have an issue like that right now. Would you break every tradition, law and convention to pursue the one you believed could heal you? This woman plagued with bleeding for 12 years of her life pressed through a crowd to touch Jesus' garments and was healed. But when Jesus stopped to confront the woman, we don't often remember where Jesus was heading and why this woman's interruption was so substantial.

Today we will study with our teacher Ryan Brown, the Calling of Nathan. We know Jesus Christ died for our sins. We know that Jesus fulfilled the law of Tora perfectly. We know that Jesus challenged cultural norms and uprooted the status quo. We know that he came to fulfill the prophecies and promises brought forth by the prophets of the Old Testaments. We know these things... because we have hindsight. We have the blessing of the completed work of scripture. What was it like to be Jacob and have a dream so vivid he called the place he awoke Bethel? What was it like to be Zechariah and have a prophetic vision you couldn't possibly understand? It was common to be skeptical in Jesus' day. Zealots were common place. No one really understood what Jesus was going to do until after he declared "It is finished"! If you didn't have hindsight, what would it take to prove to you that the Son of Man, Your Savior, God stands among you?

When Jesus is brought before the Roman local authority Pilot, he was asked 3 simple questions: "Are You the King of the Jews?", "What have you done?" and "What is truth?" That question "What is truth?" and Jesus' response will be the focus of our discussion. In a world of alternative facts, lies, and exploitation, the best you'll ever have is an approximation of truth. The only truth you can ever know is Jesus. We know Truth because we know Jesus.

This week we discuss with our teacher Ryan Brown the 1st of 6 trials of Jesus. As you study the Gospels you'll learn that Jesus was accused by a false witness and was brought before several judges on many false, changing, and misleading charges. In every situation Jesus only demanded a fair trial. Jesus was never given that fair trial, and was instead quickly put to death.
We also put Jesus on trial when we choose to follow and dedicate our lives to him. Have you given Jesus a fair trial? What does it mean to give Jesus a fair trial?

Join us as we continue to discuss with our teacher Ryan Brown, The Wedding at Cana, Jesus' first recorded miracle. This week we will focus on Mary's response. Mary, Jesus' mother rested on her faith in her son when she told the servants to "Do whatever he says." She trusted Jesus to handle her situation even though she had no idea how he would solve it. This faith and trust was born out of her relationship with her son. There is a peace that comes with trusting in Jesus like Mary did. We should pursue building that level of trust in our relationship with Jesus as well.

You may actually be oversimplifying him because of the children's rhymes we were taught growing up... In fact, Zacchaeus was rich, well-known, yet despised by the Jewish community. He was the Chief Tax Collector of a heavily traveled trade city in Jesus' day. Today's we'll learn why it was so profound and so personally impactful when Jesus proclaimed: “Zacchaeus, hurry and come down, for I must stay at your house today."

If you have been curious about why the Bible often compares our relationship with God to a marriage, today we will discuss how God shows his love and commitment to us through the covenant of Marriage. In Matthew 24 and 25, there are 5 main points that Jesus makes when he talks about the second coming of Christ: No one knows the time or hour, Keep watch, Be wise, Be prepared, and There will be a delay. In this parable, we are like the bridesmaids that are waiting for the bridegroom. We know he is going to come but we don't know when. We must therefore be prepared. Not only must we be prepared but we must be wise. We must not sacrifice our witness to save the foolish. We must not offend God to satisfy those who are offending the kingdom. In this parable, Jesus shows that Wisdom is directly synonymous with readiness. Are you ready?
Join us with our teacher Ryan Brown as we discuss our invitation to the Wedding Feast and the importance of wearing the appropriate garment. Jesus says: “The kingdom of heaven is like a king who prepared a wedding banquet for his son". Its crazy to think that one would turn down an invitation to attend a prince's wedding banquet but Jesus shows in this parable that there are those who will choose not to attend the feast. Jesus describes a King that is persistent in his invitation, despite those invited choosing not to attend, and the king's unique response to them. Jesus also shows there is a harsh reprimand for those that choose to show up to the feast in the wrong attire.
You've been given the wedding garment, and you've been invited to the feast. Are you going?
Join us as we discuss with our teacher Ryan Brown, the parable of the hidden treasure and pearl. In this parable, Jesus uses a rich man and a poor man as two examples of men who found a treasure of immense value. Here, Jesus emphasizes the universality of the kingdom of God; that it is for all people, across all social, economic, cultural, and religious classes. Additionally, this parable is anchored on joy. Of all the things this parable teaches, none is more central than the joy of the men selling all they have for something of greater value.
“For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire workers for his vineyard." Join us this week with our teacher Ryan Brown as we learn about a parable where Jesus uses ungrateful day-laborers to illustrate how ungrateful we can be. We often think that we deserve something from God for our labors for the kingdom, but that is a fundamental misunderstanding of the attitude we should have as workers in the kingdom of heaven.
This week we discuss with our teacher Ryan Brown and special guest Trisa Pittman one of Jesus' most well known parables. It is actually shared in the Gospel of Mathew, Mark and Luke. You must come to Jesus with a desire to change your heart, not simply your circumstances. You must have a receptive heart (good soil) to understand the mysteries of the kingdom. Jesus explains, if you have ears that can hear, you will understand his parables, if not, you will not understand. Therefore "let anyone who has ears, listen!"

We are called to forgive, love, teach, minister, disciple and leave Judgement to God.
One definition of Moral Injury used in the military is “feeling traumatized for doing the right thing, when under normal criteria or conditions it would be wrong.” If God abides in this awful reality, there is both hope and forgiveness available to the those stricken with a moral injury. By this we mean that grace can overcome the trauma through a narrative of solidarity and compassion. Join us today as we discuss with Chaplain Larry Brant where Moral Injury is expressed in the Bible and where we can see God's approach to helping those that are struggling with this painful reality.

Remember, if there is no judgement, there is no need for salvation. If there is no need for salvation there is no need for a savior.

This week we begin our series on parables with our teacher Ryan Brown and answer the question: Why does the Kingdom of Heaven often seem so underwhelming?
Take a moment and think about the parables of Jesus you've learned over your spiritual journey. Have you considered the cultural context and history around why Jesus chose to use those specific examples in the parables he gives in his teachings? Have you wondered why Jesus often chooses to answer a question or convey a point with a story instead of answering it clearly? Over the next few weeks we will deep dive into some of Jesus' most notable parables!
Last episode we showed how Jacob wrestled with his faith and was ultimately conquered by God. Well, what now? After a fight like that something is bound to change about you. When we have been conquered by God we are called to turn away from how we've been living our lives and instead pursue Jesus Christ. But what does that actually look like? Join us as we discuss how Jacob struggled on his journey to becoming Israel, "the one who God conquered".
As you follow Christ you will wrestle with his word. If you haven’t felt this frustration and conviction yet, you will. This week we'll discuss how Jacob wrestled with God. His fight was similar to how we also wrestle with God and our faith. Ultimately, God conquered Jacob just as God has conquered us. We either surrender to God or God conquers us. If God does not conquer you then you will ultimately be conquered by sin and death. This is why God ultimately changes Jacob's name to Israel meaning: "God Rules" or "God Conquers".
We often don't think about how our sins bear witness to others. We rarely think that what we do influences the actions of those closest to us. There is a concept of generational sin that goes beyond just Original Sin. Sin is not inherited, but it is learned and adopted. Join us as we look at how Abraham's actions and sin influenced his son Isaac, and how Isaac's actions and sin in-turn influenced his son Jacob.
What is the definition of Adultery? Did you know the definition of adultery according to United States Law is different than the definition according to God's Law in the Bible? This is a convicting message that I hope causes you to reflect on yourself because this is something so many of us struggle with. Join us as we discuss God's Law not just regarding adultery, but also the danger of bearing a false witness and the punishment for carrying out an illegal trial according to God's Law.
Have you read the prayer of Jonah? He is crying out, thanking God for his grace and mercy for saving him. But he's crying out and praying this prayer from the belly of the fish... Why would he be thanking God for his grace and mercy from the belly of the fish? What was Jonah saved from? This one is absolutely eye opening and thought provoking. Join us as we deep dive the life of the prophet Jonah.
The Book of Philemon is a short, personal letter from Paul to Philemon. It's only 25 verses and it's incredibly difficult to understand what Paul is conveying without context. Join us as we peel back the layers of this brief yet powerful message and take a look at how Paul expertly reprimands a companion whom he is close to, who hosts one of the first-generation churches in his home, and (and this is important) who was a slave owner.
Emmaus Road is a famous story in the Bible but not a very famous road, nothing about it is significant except that two Believers were walking down it. Despite this, the risen Jesus chose to walk with them and teach them all afternoon and break bread with them in the evening. Two seemingly random Christ followers, on a seemingly random road, headed home... yet the risen Christ chose to take the time to walk with them, teach them, and break bread with them. Remember, this same Jesus Christ walks alongside you as well.
We give Thomas a bad rap. He is commonly known as Doubting Thomas in the bible, but is that actually the whole picture? Imagine for a moment you’re one of the disciples. Jesus was betrayed, stood trial, and was killed before your eyes. You put all your hope in his teachings and his words. You believed he was the Savior. Now, 3 days later, you are in a time of mourning at his death, and you are in hiding fearing for your own life. You think to yourself: How do I know that I can trust that my sins are forgiven? How can I trust that what Jesus Christ said is true?... After a moment, you look up and you see Mary running up to you, yelling: “The grave is empty!”
When we read the gospel narratives, we typically approach them as one narrative, like a news paper article, but they are more like a police report. They are an account of what took place, written from different perspectives, but explaining the same event. How do we know we can trust the Resurrection? Are we trusting the word of a few disciples? If it was fabricated, who would do it? How would they? Why? We explore all these topics and more as we investigate: Can we trust that the Resurrection actually happened?

God is not produced out of other gods, nor does he battle other gods for supremacy, but He is the One, and only God. (Not the undisputed champion, but the ONLY champion). John 1:1-5 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” This is part two of a two part discussion.
Moses seems to formulate Genesis 1 using the same narration model as other mythologies within ancient Mesopotamia to contrast the difference between Yahweh and polytheism. His point intends to show God has no challenger therefore God’s will cannot be thwarted. Even today, God battles for our attention, time, energy, focus, and affections; and sometimes, even WE challenge God’s will with our own. But historical perspective shows us no outside character can thwart God’s will. Hebraic perspective shows us God’s character will not change His will. This is Part one of a two-part discussion.
We will discuss, and learn something tonight that may make us uncomfortable on multiple levels, so we must be careful. We have two points: one is how to read the bible, the other is practical. Sensational super-natural events can be a common go-to interpretation when we don’t understand aspects of a narrative. This becomes difficult because God does enact sensational super-natural events sometimes, but we have to remember a fact both science and the bible affirm: the natural state of everything is nothing. So if the natural state of everything is nothing, then the existence of anything is supernatural!
Why Bethlehem? What do you remember Bethlehem for? Geography is very important to Luke: He uses Geographic progression in his theology. Bethlehem was nothing. It had no political, cultural, or economic influence or power in the region at the time. Much of Israel may have lost site of the heritage, but Bethlehem, the family line, who produced King David, did not. They linked the glory of David to the promise that “out of Bethlehem, from the line of David would come One who would re-establish the glory of David’s throne”. That One was Jesus.
