That's the theme of my show today. It's a tough pill to swallow, but waiting is an essential part of our journey. I share how, like a mountain climber, we need periods of preparation and learning before reaching our goals. I also open up about my own experience with illustrating a children's book, showing that even when you're 'ready', there could still be unexpected hurdles to overcome, and how I put the book away for six more months even after I held the first copy in my hands. I just wasn't ready.
There's a transformative power of waiting, the importance of intentional time, and it's an essential part of our creative process. It's not about slowing down or taking a break, but rather about finding the right balance between progress and pausing. Using the analogy of a potter and her unfinished pieces, I go into how waiting with a wholehearted and contented heart can be one of the most mature and responsible things we can do.
There's more, in todays show I also share ideas on how to make use of your time intentionally and find the encouragement to wait, even when it feels overwhelming. So, join us as we learn to appreciate that sometimes, it's okay to not be ready yet.

What if I told you that your self-worth is more important than your confidence? Join me in this eye-opening show which is in response to a conversation by Ed Mylett and Jamie Kern Lima, who's about to release her book called Worthy.
I share how vital it is to have a strong foundation of self-worth before building confidence and I also tell a personal story about the importance of a solid foundation when building a house – and how it relates to understanding our own worth and value.
Together, we explore the difference between confidence and self-worth, and how confidence can be externally based on achievements, roles, and reputation, while self-worth is an inner knowing and belonging.
I was so inspired by Jamie's life story challenging us to examine our own self-perceptions and recognize our inherent value.
Listen in as I tackle negative self-talk and bring the reminder that we are all equally worthy, simply because we exist.

When it comes to courage, the timeless question of "What comes first, the chicken or the egg?" can also be applied to the development of skills and confidence. Is it necessary to gain confidence before developing skills or vice versa?
Today we continue on learning about the impact of having and gaining confidence and I highlight the significance of gaining experience in different aspects of life and work. We explore how having experience in a specific field can lead to a competitive advantage over others, ultimately resulting in increased confidence.
I will share an endearing story about an elderly potter who taught me a valuable lesson that extended beyond his exceptional handiwork and what I discovered was more valuable that the outcome of his work.
Suppose you lack the skills required for something you aspire to achieve. In that case, have you considered the "fake it till you make it" approach?
I share about successful people who lack confidence despite their achievements. On the other hand, we'll also examine the "fake it till you make it" approach, where individuals push themselves out of their comfort zone and learn new skills through trial and error, even if they may not feel entirely prepared. Yes, how do we get the confidence to get out there and take risks and embrace new challenges to learn from the failures and successes?
I'm here to build some confidence in you because I myself have had to grow confidence. Some of us are born with it and others of us have to grow it and build it and somehow find it within ourselves to take one baby step after another until we grow the experience to have confidence in something.

Today on the show, we're going to talk about how to build confidence in your life. And by the end of today's show, you'll have a new sense of self-assurance that will serve you well in any situation.
I'm going to tell you all about what I've been learning from two books I'm reading... The Confidence Code by Katty Kay, and Claire Shipman and Find your Voice by Caroline Goyder. I started those books because I wanted to explore how creativity, confidence and purpose are related, and what it means for me to become the most confident content creator and podcaster that I can be in my lifetime.
I talk about what taking your rightful place in authority and confidence means to me, and how it affects our sense of belonging, and the ways we tend to apologize for ourselves instead of simply be in a state of confidence. I share how I was recently the director on a film set and how I needed to exude confidence to put the whole crew at ease and what the producer ended up telling me after the shoot.
You'll hear a definition of true confidence that will really take the lid off and expose both extremes, arrogance and insecurity, for the lies they are. We think about what it really is about that person who walks in the room with confidence that changes the environment...their body language, introductions, natural ability to give away confidence rather than suck attention. This leads us to explore the IT Factor and how to find YOURS!

After 28 years of marriage I've learned it's never too late to show your partner what kind of kisses work best for you, even if it feels funny to do it.
I'll also share two incredible stories of extreme kindness that will blow your mind. Both stories are about a person who never puts himself in the spotlight and who makes it possible for others to shine. Not only will your heart be warmed and prompted toward acts of kindness but you will feel inspired to look for those qualities in the people you align your life with.

It's a question that we've all asked ourselves from time to time. "What's the point?" We all have moments where we stop and wonder and search for the reasons we're doing what we're doing.
Whether it be in our creative pursuits or any of our other endeavors, sometimes it can feel like the ferris wheel of life just keeps spinning around and around, never reaching its destination. We can go through burnout cycles over and over again without ever seeing the outcomes or results that we're really looking for.
And then, every once in a while, we'll just stop the madness and ask ourselves "What's the Point?"
I've been there too.
What we're really asking ourselves in those, what's the point moments is about deeper purpose, not just the purpose of your day to day activities, but of life. Yeah, I'm getting deep here, I'm talking about the meaning, you know, the meaning of life, the deeper purpose of how we're really making a difference in the world.
We're not asking what's the point of our day-to-day activities; (well maybe we are sometimes) but today we're going deeper than that—we're talking about life's deeper purpose. The meaning behind what we do with our lives, and how are we making a difference in the world.
I'll also update you on those 15 pounds I'm losing!
Welcome to the Marijanel Show Episode 054.

Episode 053. It's happened! The big awaited name change for this podcast. This show is officially formerly known as Curiosity's Apprentice and is now the Marijanel Show.
I'm moving forward into an new season and I'm inviting you to come with me.
Living creatively, I've been forced time and time again to reinvent myself and learn and figure out how to make a creative living.
I play back for you the promise I made in epsiode one. That this podcast would be messy, and I share how I've come to learn that...all great masters started as disasters.
I'm decluttering my creative activities and getting clarity of what to keep and what to let go of, and this podcast is something I'm not letting go...and so here we go!

Episode 052. That delicious holiday food and drink has tipped my scale and today I reveal how much weight I gained over Christmas. What I didn't expect was to be overcome with shame and embarrassment and that's exactly why I've brought this topic to my podcast.
Why are we ashamed of weight gain? How can we lose weight in a healthy, non-extreme way, embracing that all good things take time?
Today I explore just that, as I share with you a little bit of my past when I first was slapped with what I call "fat and skinny standards", and that first time I realized people look and judge each others bodies. (why do we do that?)
I didn't expect my memoircast to go in the direction of body-positivity, but I'm riding the wave of what's current for me and I'm also seeing more and more it's an area of womenhood that I want to unify and speak hope.
I'd love for you to message me on Instagram @marijanel and tell me why you think people carry shame to talk about our weight gain.
Enjoy the show!

Episode 050. This morning a lady at the gym told me something about her 2022 that sparked this reflection to share. From our brief conversation we exchanged the most heartfelt happy new year wishes I might've ever experienced with a stranger!
I'm here on the last day of the year to say in this Shortycast, I wish you a blessed new year!
It’s been known that when people experience a difficult year they breathe a huge sigh of relief when that number is no longer on the calendar. If you've had a bad 2022, let's all breathe a sigh of relief together. The changing of that number on that yearly date draws a veil of sorts over whatever the year before held and allows us fresh eyes and new horizons.
Midnight tonight is not a magic wand, but it does mark a fresh start. We can start fresh whenever we want to. Any moment of any given day can be a New Years countdown, a kiss of celebration, or a moment of new beginnings.
So, I wish you the very best New Year, that 2023 would be a new exciting adventure, life-changing experiences and deeper friendships/relationships, and more discovery of life purpose.
Onwards and upwards my friend, with no regrets! Happy 2023!

Episode 048. This one is both funny and serious. It'll leave you with a sense of hope and renewed appreciation for your holiday season, but I get real about the times I was Mama Grinch and we even had to "take a break" from decorating the tree because I was so stressed out with the kids. The holiday blues are real. Despite the general atmosphere of joyousness and celebration, many people experience the holidays as a time to “get through” rather than a time to enjoy. Family dynamics, full event calendars, and the pressure to “be merry” can make the holiday season particularly stressful. But sadness often creeps in, too, and people deal with some of the following challenges
I've personally experienced all of the above at the holiday season. Especially number four...unrealistic expectations. I tell you all about being a "Martha wannabe" (trying to be picture perfect like a Martha Stewart magazine) and how living at the farm with Charlie Brown Christmas trees were the perfect medicine for my perfectionism.
If you're struggling in any way to feel joy this holiday season...if you're feeling anxiety, the lack of hope, the pressure of Christmas...you'll find this episode relatable and made just for you. This mama has been there, and I can say you'll make it to the other side..
"If you're having some Christmas fails, the only thing that we can do is the best we can just do the best that you can in this season with what you've been given. And one minute at a time. Try and do the simple things, simplify the expectations and come back to what we're thankful for."
00:00:00 Intro 00:01:10 happy to receive the stories 00:02:51 the hair on my cheeks 00:04:38 pretty traditional Christmas 00:05:38 do something new 00:07:11 the most deceptive times of year 00:09:20 holidays sucked 00:10:49 Being Mama Grinch 00:13:04 holiday blues are real 00:14:51 the "Martha standard" 00:17:07 accepting what it is 00:19:08 I just wanted an adult tree 00:21:13 your mom needs her space 00:22:38 It wasn't really about the tree 00:24:22 transform and morph and grow 00:27:31 tree in the downstairs 00:29:04 pick a pine tree in the wild 00:31:08 girl and the tree holding hands 00:34:21 blasting Morgan Wallen 00:36:47 three big minions on my lawn 00:39:56 a story to learn from 00:40:36 laugh at yourself 00:43:16 you are accepted 00:43:34 Closing

Episode 047. Do you wish you could rewrite the narrative? Especially when it comes to all your fears and worries? In today's memoircast I'm going to share with you a couple tricks I have up my sleeve for literally turning the page on my fear.
Journals can create for us these milestone markers, where when we begin to flip through, I always do an exercise that I call the backflip. I'll tell you all about the backflip journaling technique and how in conjures up an incredible sense of gratitude and ability to see our own personal growth.
I also do an exercise that I call the fear flip.
In this episode I'll also read to you from my hidden diaries, deciphering my journaling code. You'll hear about my big regret from a trip to Mexico, what I denied my husband, why my son fainted in a horse barn, what got me unraveling through postpartum depression, and what my teacher yelled at me while I was shaving a mans face for the first time in barber school. You're going to be fully entertained by this episode PLUS gain precious tools for saving the stories of your life so you can create legacy.
Today you'll hear a few journal entries where I came face to face with my need for courage. I found that part of the way I did that was by really recognizing my fears, and then changing the narrative to them.

Episode 046. Emergency CPR, defibrillators, jaws of life, the right prescription, heroes who risk their lives...these are literal lifesavers... but there's a simple habit I've had for 35 years that has saved my life in the figurative sense. It’s not only been a hobby, but it’s been like a friend. A constant, a compass. A relief. A joy.
This episode is about the power of journaling and how it's saved my life.
I believe that what you hear me talk about today could lead to a way you could be 100% yourself. The real you.100%. No airs. No personas. No lies. No masks. No bars. Fully, and wholeheartedly transparent. This could be the answer to you finding you.
I will also answer to a list of blockages and excuses that people give me of why they can't journal and if you've ever felt the guilt of stopping and starting or not knowing what to say, hating the look of your own handwriting, or scared someone will read it...this episode is for YOU!
I'm also going to share with you my secret code that only I understand and why you should develop your own. Tune in to hear my secrets. Grab a hot drink, curl on the couch for this one, you may also want to have your favorite journal and pen handy.

Episode 045. Are you sick and tired of Mr. Should sitting on your shoulder telling you all the things you should do? Yeah, me too.
I've imagined this character who is constantly giving me orders and telling me all the things I'm not doing right and what I should do. I'm sure you can relate, there's just so much pressure to live up to so much these days and our to do lists just get longer and longer. So how do we stop giving so much weight to Mr. Should? I talk about how to recognize when he shows up—and what I do about it There's ways to tune out all the shoulds!
Also! Today in my show I go down a fun and entertaining rabbit trail of catching you up to speed with everything from my broken plumbing, and having to use a spooky theatre washroom, to my YouTube obsession, new vlogs, why I'll never dance on Tik Tok reels, how I'm controlling my egg nog intake and how my kids book is coming along.

Episode 044. Brain fog. It's when we get overwhelmed with too many thoughts and ideas at once. Sometimes it's anxious feelings, other times it's exhaustion.
I've been working hard to boil down the secret sauce for beating brain fog, and I think I've finally gotten it down to its finest reduction for me. This show reveals what I've learned in this part three of my Intuitive Living Series (Episodes 42-44) about beating brain fog through using intuition.
I talk about:
Intuition is the start of curiosity. Curiosity is the start of creativity. Creativity is the start of all possibilities, and potential—it just goes in a domino effect like that. And so when I boiled it all down, I saw that intuition is my secret sauce here. But I'm not the only one gifted with it—intuition is something that all of us have, and I believe creativity is something all of us have, too. It's something we don't always want to embrace just like intuition is something we want to put in a closet because we don't know how to use it.
And here's where you come in! You can use your intuition as a compass instead of an airy-fairy mystical magic wand—it's not elusive; it's not some thing you have to figure out by yourself, but this series will help you in practical ways as you begin to listen to the quiet signals of your intuition.

Episode 041. Clunk, Clang, Clutter! That was the sound me heaving heaps and heaps into the garbage when I went on my minimalistic craze about three years ago. I can't count the dumploads and facebook marketplace sales and things I gave away that I parted with to go down to the bare essentials and start over with no clutter.
Today I tell about going minimalistic and all about the day I stood in the attic face to face with boxes of my past that I had to let go of. I also share the wise words that my friend told me when I expressed my emotions of turmoil about the purge. I had actually thrown my own CDs away (yes, like the ones I paid to record). What she said will stay will resonate with me for years and I think it will resonate with you too!
When it came to this great purge of my life, going minimal, what do you think really mattered for me to keep and to throw away? Find out in today's show!

In today's memoirkast I share about how I combat the winter blues by being proactive with my list of non-negotiables. I share a glimpse into how I discovered being prone to depression in the first place, and how it was connected to grieving, in the story I told in Episode 033.

Episode 037. Beep Beep. You're going the wrong way. That's ok, me too. I'm going to tell you a story about a time I was literally going the wrong way, against the convoy of Jeeps where I really belonged. Sometimes in life we just have to go against the flow, our intuition leads us places that might not make sense but we know are right for us.
In todays episode I also talk about how curiosity is a choice, how it leads to uncertainty and discomfort and even to people pleasing. If you've been feeling uncomfortable with reactions you've gotten from recent decisions or wishing you could take more risk and not worry what anyone thinks, this episode might just be for you!
I also express gratitude to all those out there who are choosing to live curious lives! The world needs you!

Episode 033. Another kleenex episode. This is the story of my journey of grief after losing my dear friend and mentor in a tragic car accident sixteen years ago.
This episode is in memory of what would have been her 67th birthday, and is my way of asking myself if I'm carrying forward her legacy and all she stood for.
If you want to live a life of purpose, seeing people for who they really are, believing in destiny... this episode may inspire you as I speak of what a difference a person can make by truly seeing past the exterior and into the soul and the power that we have when we believe in someone's potential. This is what my friends life taught me.

Episode 031. Am I enough? Do I fit? Are these questions you've asked yourself? Me too.
In today's memoirkast I tell a story about a transformative life lesson I learned from a group of muddy kids. You'll hear about a crazy business venture I did to make more money which included driving in my tiny car with a thousand bowls. Yes bowls.
Today's episode peels back layers of comparison, our desire to fit in, to seek others approval, to people please...when the truth to confidence is always right under our nose, and I'll tell you where I found it.
Why is it that we scroll through social media and then put the phone down to only feel bad about ourselves? It's the comparison game. I'll tell you why my latest quote is, "Comparison is me not knowing me." What does that even mean?
Getting approval from others is a boost of confidence, but in the long term it destroys our own intuition.
I also reveal a secret about talking to myself which involves emailing myself. Weird? Yup, but you'll definitely want to know my secret and why it's helped me in the area of self-kindness.

Episode 030. Have you had a big let down? Me too. Today I tell all about one of my life's biggest disappointments, but really I discovered that more than any of the circumstances I was mostly disappointed in myself. Why? Listen in to find out.
This episode includes true crime. A neighbor arrested for bones found on his property, but first!... The drama gets started with some serious Acts of God, landslides and forest fires. All of these things are out of my control but yet I'm so very disappointed. Through the stress of it all I get a case of insomnia, I'll continue next week to tell you how I started sleeping again.
I tell you about what I'm learning from Brene Brown's Atlas of the Heart and how she describes expressed expectations leading to disappointment. It's hard to be vulnerable to express our hopes and dreams, especially when they lead to a big let down.
If you've experienced this, we are in it together. Tune in to hear straight from my journal about roughing it in country life...with a little bit about Jeep camping and what goldpanning and pottery have in common.

Episode 029. Why? Why? Why? Yes, we ask why. Especially when things are hard. There's so much in life we will never understand or know the reason why. In last weeks episode I was hit with "why did I buy this farm?" But what if I changed my whys to another kind of question? I'll talk about how, and why HOW was a game changer for me. This might be relatable and encouraging for you!
I'll also tell you my latest meal prep tips, and how it helps with decision fatigue and being the discipline that bridges the gap in our beliefs vs actions. You'll hear my favorite easy healthy breakfast meal prep that you can stack in your fridge and have on the go.
MJ's Overnight Oatmeal recipe is found at this link.
Among other things, I got eaten alive the other night, so you'll hear about my defense against mosquitos in my upcoming glamping trip and I finally explain the yurt which I should have told you about before.
I also reveal my latest art commission and you'll see why I'm so excited about it that I'll be working on it while we camp. I'll give you a hint it has to do with wine. And mice. Mice and wine? Listen to hear all about these curious details of my life!

Episode 025. Confession time. I ate secret cake at three o'clock in the afternoon while I was supposed to be writing my episode on having harmony with food. Needless to say, I'm not putting out that episode today. Instead my memoirkast has turned into a talk to myself about discipline. Ewe. Yes, I said the word discipline.
Let's talk about discipline, routine, and setting our bars at manageable goals. Let's also hear about why my core values in life aren't matching up to my actions. Like why am I not taking my vitamins when I believe in vitamins? This is a predicament.
Also, why did I sarcastically say to my daughter, "well, I don't believe in sperm and yet you're here!". ??? This was a quick comeback I was very proud of, but you'll need to listen to here the whole story.
I really wanted to continue my series on loving my body, managing weight and having a healthy relationship with food, but I may have fired myself until I can stop eating cake. Stay tuned to find out if I get back into tune with the lifestyle I want to live.

Episode 024. Let's talk about the numbers on my scale and the questions I ask myself about diets and exercise and the balance I've come to between all the extremes. I tell you all about how on one side of the spectrum "I let myself go" and how I've even tasted unhealthy obsession too. My daughter even tells us what FUPA is! (this you have to know!)
I share about my secrets to moderation and why my story isn't defined by what I weigh but rather by my mindset. Why is criticism, comparison, insecurity, and not fitting into society norm part of what makes us so body aware? I reveal a few mindset shifts I've had over the years that really helped me stay in the happy place of being comfortable with my body and mindful of my health.
You'll also find out why I shouldn't even call this my weight loss story, but rather my weight maintenance journey. Loosing weight has barely been the beginning of it for me, and I'll tell you why it's more about my mind than the scale. There will be a continuation episode next week on my evolving relationship with food.

Episode 023. It's my 45th birthday today and what's more appropriate than to speak of the first gift we are ever given at birth...our bodies. I can say to you that I love my birthday suit, I'm never going to show much of it on Instagram, so don't go scrolling, but I love it. It hasn't always been that way though. Over my 45 years on this planet I've learned to appreciate my body to the point I wouldn't trade it in for a younger more perfect version.
Today's memoirkast is much more than a pep talk on body positivity, it's about me being real with why I've made a commitment to work out, and how I've seen my body like a canoe that gives me safe passage through the rapids of life, and I either choose to sabotage or serve my vessel and the only one who can steer it is me.
This episode is part one, and next week I'll dive even a layer deeper into the story behind how I got to the place in my body image where I could say to you, "I love my body". I had a pivitol moment when I was too fat to tie my shoes. But that part of the story will be told next week, first listen to this episode. Indulge me for my birthday with allowing me to talk about my birthday suit and I hope you go away feeling more appreciation for your own birthday suit too.

Episode 021. This is my first shortykast. It's the May long weekend 2022 and I'm keeping it brief so I can go enjoy the weather, but though short it's packed with a punch. Deep stuff. 'Let's Suppose Love' is an excerpt from my journal where my mind is blown by the bigness and possibilities of love being in every molecule and what it could truly mean.
You'll hear me challenge myself to act in love, whether small acts of kindness like plucking Grandma's whiskers or being a caring wife and mom.

Episode 019. Grab the Kleenex. This one is sad. I recorded this on Mother's Day 2022 for the purpose of sharing my truth and story of miscarriage, grief and healing. This episode is heavy compared to my regular content and might not be the right episode for you, but for those who listen along I promise there are rays of sunshine and hope woven into my sadness and I end by sharing all about my rainbow baby.
Sometimes when you hear someone else’s story, even when it’s not the exact circumstance you’ve gone through, there’s a comforting sense of knowing you’re not alone.
Though this episode might be too tender for some I've intended it for anyone going through loss of any kind, not just babies. To leave our stories, whether in journals, a memoir, a recording like this is to have a voice to the precious ones to come in our footsteps to say I was where you are and look, look there’s hope.
For the souls who listen, who have lost in any way, here is my story.

Episode 016. Can flipping a pancake change your life? YES. It can when someone gives you a horse while they do the flipping!
Horses were as foreign to me as unicorns, but I said yes for my kids. I never knew that every day for seven years I'd face my fears as my kids dove head first into the world of cowboys and saddles. The old mare, Megan, would change me, and bond our family for all the years to come.

Episode 015. Get the real story of why today's episode was delivered a few hours late and why I can't apologize for it. (Hint: It involved a wild shopping spree)
DONE. Nevermind. Let's overwork and overthink some more. Ok, DONE.
Does this pattern sound familiar? Do you have a hard time knowing when your project or work is done? I talk about that today. I relate this problem to how an artist knows when a piece of art is done. I confess I overwork and overthink everything. I have a whole studio full of paintings leaning up against the wall that I may never finish.
And what about my insatiable need to accomplish my lists? I share the balancing act epiphany that I had about a decade ago. Seriously. Changed my life to change a few letters on the end of the word balance. Tune in to hear how I've figured out the difference between my "being" and my "doing".
"I want you to know today that all of your accomplishments are amazing. You are amazing and you're doing an amazing job being dedicated and fulfilling all of your loyalties and obligations. But when you strip it all away, you are a being and who you are as being matters most. And so I hope that you take some time to reflect and if there's a season in your life that you need to call done."

Episode 014. KaBoom. This story will tell you why I'm terrified of a regular family barbeque. I'm the childhood survivor of a propane gas explosion. That's right. I've lived to tell about it and laugh about it, but I still don't sizzle the hamburgers without caution. My crazy story is even verified when I call my little brother to fact check. It gets better. There was a cover up too. You won't find record of this catastrophic event and the family who miraculously escaped because the town pretended it didn't happen. This and more will entertain you in today's memoirkast!

Episode 013. That's right. I like to say you don't really know someone until you hear their 'animal voice'. You know, that high pitched, altered goofy tone we reserve for babies and animals? That's the one. Today I reveal my animal voice to you, and I tell you all about my favorites. You're going to be surprised to find out my favorite food and one of the biggest questions people ask me about my favorites. I also introduce you to a person I adopted into my life who is my favorite. (ok, one of them).
Today I hop around a little, with a few random stories in my memoirkast, I take you on a fun, easy listening journey googling an inspiring tree fact, something I learned during a spin class (in the dark!!!) and a little disclaimer about last week's bonus episode. I wish I never had. Maybe I'm a quitter, or maybe I'm a changer! What's the difference? In today's memoirkast I explore thoughts on how quitting, changing and pausing our situations of commitments are misunderstood. I'll also reveal a moment of intervention when someone who loved me looked me in the eye and told me "You need to quit." Maybe quitting isn't such a bad thing. It might have saved my life. Episode 011. Whoa! It's like I fell down a rabbit hole and found myself, like Alice, wondering what size I should be in life. A little larger please. I was also terrified, as a child, of what was in the corner of Mrs. Hopson's attic and I had to text my dad 30 years later to clear it up. You'll never guess what it was. Also, why on earth did a family of six live in the upstairs of a ninety year old woman's house anyway? And who gets baptized in an old claw foot tub? These are all part of unraveling the mysteries of my past on today's memoirkast.

Episode 009. Do you feel different? Weird? Me too. For me, it might have started and ended with a vertical line in the alphabet, something about me I've had to explain my whole life. What's your differentiator? What makes you unique?
In today's memoirkast I explore my origins and the years I spent camouflaging and explaining myself. I think about the benefits of aging and how even though our bodies start to malfunction we live less apologetically with time, embracing who we're made to be.

Episode 008. EWE. GROSS. Pickle Soup! I must have absent mindedly added a lot of dill to the soup while I daydreamed about Dirt and Potatoes.
I have much the same story as a small dirty potato. It's like I've been buried in the ground hidden like a potato growing slowly in dark soil, reaching out stems and roots becoming and finally swelling with growth until a hand reaches down to find me.. plucks me out of the dirt brings me into the light and scrubs me up for a purpose.
The potato has much the same story as clay. Clay has much the same story as kids. And a poor chicken named Cluckers met his fate when my son wanted soup. This episode was not only warm your heart like a cup of good coffee, but you'll laugh a little too.

This memoirkast is the story of how a ride in a big black bus, holding a topsy-turvy load of great vine piled high to the sky, driven by an unusual hippie couple ignited my entrepreneurial spirit.
I'm often asked "Marijanel, where did you get your entrepreneurial mindset?" I believe the entrepreneurial spirit was lit like a flame in my young heart on the the big black bus and you'll be entertained to hear all about it.

Episode 006. Stop! Wait! What? What are you waiting for?
If there's anything you're waiting for in your life today... for a house to sell or waiting to hear news about a job or a grade on an exam... maybe you're waiting for a baby to be born, or someone to propose, you're in what I call "mean time". The meantime is where I've found my greatest idea seeds.
This is a show all about the power of meantime and how the idea seed begins and germinates. For me, there's been some pivotal changes that came through ideas resulting from a simple conversation. I share one biggie from my early 20s, that resulted after a conversation with my grandpa, and another one that happened during a haircut.
That's right. A haircut changed the course of my life after a farmer named Jordan opened my eyes to a possibility. And being Curiosity's Apprentice is all about staying open to possibility.
Listen to todays show to find out what these conversations were all about and the ideas I couldn't get out of my mind.

You'll laugh at how I flubbed up a portrait painting my daughter calls the "blue chimpanzee-smurf", and you'll marvel at the wild horse that taught me a lesson in the roundpen.
"If I am the horse and Grace is my trainer and art is my round pen.... I still often bucket the restraints of training, of coloring in the lines like Grandma Williams showed me. But Grace is ever so patient and keeps capturing my heart over and over."

Episode 003. What is your soul work? You know... the life work you do that comes from deep within your creative soul and is truly authentic. In this episode I'll tell you some stories of how I've been finding my soul work. Life has had some surprises I wasn't expecting!
Today you'll get a glimpse through my artistic timeline...starting with my music career, morphing into a photography decade, and then my pursuit of mastering of pottery... all leading to my current curious exploration... watercolor.
Hunched over the clay workbench I was asking myself...
"What if clay wasn't where art ended for me? What if clay was where it began? What if another medium would lead me to yet another form of soul work that I needed to express and explore in my lifetime? What if it didn't look serious, but insteadthe work of my soul emerged as delightful woodland characters hiding under oversized mushrooms, ferns and fantastical flowers?"
I think about how if I had not followed my intuition and began to illustrate when I did, I may have made the moved on without hope. But because I followed my curiosity I was full of fresh ideas and hope for the next chapter.
Listen in to find out what the next chapter of my life had in store as I share my memoirkast.

You'll hear me explore this in my journal, discovering, "It's okay to have a dream and wait till later." Waiting in wisdom is totally different than procrastination.

Episode 001. This show is a slice of my life.
Hi there, my name is Marijanel and this my memoirkast called Curiosity's Apprentice. It's been my intention for so long to release a memoir and I'm here now releasing it in the form of audio. If there's one thing I've learned in my life, it's that we all have a unique voice. For me, podcasting is just one way to share my voice and complete my memoir.
Did you know there's a lot of misconceptions around the idea of what a memoir actually is? Most think it's a long form book like an autobiography...to me, a memoir is a slice of someone's life. Well, here's a slice of mine.
I want to ask you, who has given your creativity permission to soar? If no one gave you that gift as a child, I want to say it's not too late to give yourself permission.
If you think about it, all of life's major problems have been solved through creativity.
One way to do this is by freeing ourselves from the constraints of society's expectations and norms.
Sometimes creativity is just not doing things the normal way. Being Curiosity's Apprentice is just the start of creativity. .....
