Repeat Episode: Today on BAEP Talks with....! We speak to Dr. Janelle Jackman about Uterine Fibroids!

Dr. Janelle Jackman was born in the culturally diverse Caribbean island of Trinidad and Tobago and is an accomplished physician in OBGYN, with a passion for reproductive endocrinology and infertility. She has an intrinsic desire to help families, while stretching the boundaries of modern medicine.

Dr. Jackman obtained her Bachelor of Medical Sciences degree as well as her Medical Degree from the University of The West Indies St Augustine. She specialized as an OBGYN at The Brooklyn Hospital Center, graduating at the top of her class with research on reproductive health. She is a skilled surgeon with extensive experience in performing both laparoscopic and robotic surgery.

Dr. Jackman is an active researcher and honoree of many awards. She has published manuscripts in high-quality medical journals and is passionate about education and loves sharing knowledge.

As such she teaches resident physicians and medical students alike as well as writes Board Preparation questions in OBGYN. Dr. Jackman strives daily to provide a comfortable and caring environment in order to ensure that her patients are fully able to get their reproductive needs and goals addressed.

his Saturday we will be chatting with two members of the JRB Centre multidisciplinary team!

Dr John Barker is a Consultant in the UK and is currently a Consultant Obstetrician/Gynaecologist and Director at JRB Medical Centre. He has completed his Postgraduate Training in the UK via the Mersey Deanery Rotation (Liverpool) and has completed Advanced Training Skills Modules in Gynaecological Oncology, Benign Abdominal Surgery and Advanced Labour Ward Practice. He has been a MOET Instructor and currently an OSCE Examiner at the University of Liverpool.

Dr Barker is a Member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, British Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology, International Society for Sexuality and Cancer. Locally he has formed an Endometriosis Centre and is part of a multidisciplinary team designed to treat deep infiltrating endometriosis and has developed a One Stop Postmenopausal Bleeding Clinic, An Outpatient Hysteroscopic Service and a Gynaecological Oncology diagnostic and triage service.

Brenda Roach is a registered Counselling Psychologist. She has a Masters degree in Counselling Psychology from the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus, and a certification in Psychological First Aid from the Johns Hopkins University through Coursera.
She specializes in helping her clients overcome grief and loss, this includes the death of a loved one, loss of a relationship due to illness or breakup, loss of financial security, loss of self or disenfranchised losses such as a miscarriage or being unable to conceive.

These types of losses are hidden and not physically seen. Having overcome life-altering losses of her own-and using evidence-based interventions that are practical and clinically tested-has given her the tools to help others do the same. Brenda currently offers services, in the areas of grief, trauma, addiction and behavioral issues, such as anxiety and self-esteem. She is the author of Reflecting and Journaling Towards a Meaningful Life, a guided journal entitled A Simple Guide to Daily Journaling and a 6-month journal entitled – Gratitude, Happiness & Celebration.

Today we chat with Urologist, Dr. Satyendra Persaud!

Why? You may ask.

Because aside from Dr. Persaud, being a highly regarded and sought after expert in his specialization- endometriosis can affect other organs outside of the uterus- including the bladder and related structures!

A bit about Dr Persaud. He graduated in 2005 and finished his General Surgery training in Barbados in 2010. He completed urology training at the University of the West Indies, St Augustine in 2015 graduating with the Doctor of Medicine in Urology and was the first graduate of the Trinidadian program.

The following year he commenced further training in the United Kingdom as part of the International Surgical Training Program of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He completed 2 years of subspecialty training in Endourology at the Bradford Royal Infirmary and Colchester Hospital. He is an expert on kidney stones.

Dr Persaud is a fellow of the Caribbean College of Surgeons and the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He is a member of the International Society of Urology (SIU) and the American Urological Association.

He served on the Programs for Developing World sub-committee of the SIU Academy and currently sits on the Endourology Committee of the Academy. He is a member of the Caribbean Urological Association where he served as Organizing Secretary.

He has published several research papers in peer reviewed journals and presented at numerous conferences, winning several awards in the process.

Satyendra is a full time Lecturer in Urology at the University of the West Indies and is responsible for both undergraduate and post graduate teaching.

He is based at the San Fernando General Hospital and is Coordinator of the Doctor of Medicine Residency Program in Urology.

Dr Persaud is very passionate about patient education and feels strongly about empowering patients to participate in their care.
