Welcome to Found Voices™A podcast about writing and voice and creativity and what I like to call creative mindfulness. I believe that when you find your voice you shift your life. At least that has been my experience and the experience of so many others I know: fellow writers and creatives who I have sat with in writing class and those I teach. When you find your voice you can't help but put it out into the world. This could be through movement, dance, cooking, painting, other art forms, and, of course, for me it is through writing and now this podcast. The process of uncovering your voice interests me, the beginning, the middle and what comes after. There is so much more to say about this, but for now I'll share, I'm in Southern California. I'm open to suggestions regarding topics, possible guests and more. Reach out. Let me know what you think. How you found your voice and listen....Welcome to Found Voices™
In this episode of Found Voices™ The Podcast I share three important things that all artists and writers need to achieve success. And when I say success, I mean your personal definition of success. These three things were imparted to me by my teacher and mentor, Jack Grapes, and I am now sharing them with you.

In this short episode of Found Voices™ I share a story my father once told me and how important it is to use the details of your life in your writing—the details of your 5 senses. No matter what you're writing, these details are magic, and will connect your reader to your writing and your characters in ways you'd never have imagined. I hope you enjoy this episode. Feel free to reach out with questions and your comments.
In the meantime, Write On.

Inspiration. We wait for it. We want it. We need it. Often we won't write (or create) because we aren't feeling inspired. What if inspiration wasn't what you needed, but something else? What if inspiration is a lump?
In this short episode, I share a little bit about inspiration and explain what I mean when I say, "Inspiration is a lump."
Enjoy and feel free to message me with your thoughts and how this episode supported your creative process.

What do you do when you don't know where to start writing? You have an idea. A story you want to tell. Or, you don't, but you know you want to, you have to, you need to write. So what do you do? Where do you start? You start with a bug on a leaf. In this episode, I explain what it means to start with a bug on a leaf & offer tips to get you unstuck, so you can write yourself out of the trap of 'writer's block.'
Thanks for listening.
And, of course, if you enjoy these podcasts, please drop me a note, leave a comment, let me know.
And Write On,
Carolyn.

Write your heart out. It's Joyce Carol Oates number one of ten writing tips. It's also her 10th.
But the question is how does one write one's heart out? I mean, sounds easy right? Or maybe it doesn’t. Maybe you're thinking to yourself, what does this even mean to write my heart out…
In this episode I explore this concept and why it may, or may not, be difficult to write your heart out.
Enjoy.

If you're trying to be perfect, you won't be creative. Or at least you won't be as creative as you could be and you won't have any fun.
I don't know what it is, but somehow, when it comes to writing, there is the expectation of perfection. Of 'doing it right' on the first try. I don't know why this is, but I do know that in order to be a good writer, a writer that bypasses talent but instead taps into creative genius, you have to be willing to let go of being perfect. In fact, you must be willing to fail!
I would love to hear what you think about perfection and failure and being 'good' at your craft. Drop me a line or pop in and tell me more on my website: www.carolynziel.com

In this episode I explore vulnerability and creativity and writing. I believe that being vulnerable will not only make you a stronger human being, it will also make you a better artist and writer.
