I'm back after a brief holiday break and I've got some exciting updates to share. I realized that the direction of my podcast and coaching work wasn't quite aligning with my passions anymore. So, I've decided to make a significant shift.

I've been feeling unfulfilled with the general therapy and couples coaching I've been doing for the past year and a half. After some introspection and with the help of a new business coach, I've decided to focus specifically on married moms, which is where my heart truly lies.

I'm rebranding my podcast from "Child Proof Your Marriage" to "Married Moms Take Control." This new focus will delve into the multifaceted roles of married moms, emphasizing the importance of nurturing the woman beneath the mom and wife roles.

In this new chapter, I plan to offer solo episodes again, aiming for concise, 20-30 minute segments that tackle the personal transformations married moms can achieve. This includes boosting self-confidence, improving communication, setting boundaries, and finding personal fulfillment amidst the daily juggle of family life.

If you're not a married mom, don't worry – much of the content will still be relevant to you, but my target audience is shifting. I'm thrilled about this change and can't wait to see where this new journey takes us. Stay tuned for the first episode of the rebranded podcast coming soon, and make sure you're on my email list for updates. Thanks for sticking with me, and I hope you'll join me on this exciting new adventure!

In this solo episode, I reflect on the emotional challenges we face as parents when we can’t shield our children from life’s difficulties. Drawing from my own experiences, like my son’s struggles with math and our family’s ordeal with our dog’s emergency surgery, I dive into the delicate balance of supporting our kids while managing our own emotions. I share how important it is to foster resilience—not just in our children as they learn to navigate hardships, but also in ourselves as we sit with the discomfort of not having all the answers. I offer practical advice, including finding creative solutions, seeking outside help, and giving our kids the space to fully process their feelings. Most importantly, I encourage grace and self-compassion for all of us who are doing our best as parents.

In this episode, I had the pleasure of chatting with Michelle Massarini, a licensed therapist turned weight loss behavior coach. Michelle has taken her expertise as a clinician and applied it to helping women tackle weight loss in a way that's all about behavior change and mindset. We talked about how weight loss isn’t just about diets and exercise—it’s about creating sustainable changes that align with who you are and what you truly need.

Michelle shared her journey, from being a spin instructor in college to struggling with her own weight and discovering how to blend behavioral techniques with health and fitness. Her approach focuses on building trust with yourself, reimagining routines, and making weight loss something that works for you, not something dictated by external rules or fads.

We also got into how society and self-judgment play a role in weight struggles and how changing behaviors starts with redefining your relationship with yourself. Michelle emphasized the importance of self-compassion and how weight loss isn’t just about what you’re eating but also how you’re living. She even gave examples of how these transformations can ripple into relationships, boundaries, and personal growth.

My sweet 12 year old son, Tristan, joined me for this episode! We had a great conversation as a follow up to my solo episode last week about 'Navigating Difficult Conversations with Kid." Tristan shared insights from his perspective as a child, emphasizing that children are sensitive to parents' emotions and honesty. We talked about how if parents approach conversations angrily or without understanding, it can damage trust and communication. Tristan also highlights that parents need to show respect and maintain a strong connection with their children for these conversations to be effective. The conversation touches on topics like handling grief, disciplinary issues, and stressful news, with a focus on parents being intentional, managing their own emotions, and setting an example for their kids. You will love this conversation.

In this solo episode, I’m taking on a topic you guys asked for: tackling tough talks with kids. I’m breaking it down into two parts. First, I’ll be sharing a parent’s and therapists view on why these conversations can be tricky, along with some real-life stories and tips for handling anything from sensitive topics to those out-of-nowhere questions. I cover the importance of validating kids' feelings, staying honest, managing those big emotions, and how these chats can help build trust and connection. Then, in part two, my 12-year-old son will jump in to give his take on how these talks feel from a kid’s side.

My guest today is Natalie McCabe, a parenting coach. Most, if not all parents have used technology to entertain our kids, and of course, to entertain ourselves. But how often do we stop to notice how our moods are impacted by the use of technology. Technology is a part of our lives, and will always be, so trying to do without (for ourselves or our children) is just not going to happen. So instead, we need to learn how to set boundaries and limits, and recognize what we need to do to manage the behavioral or emotional pitfalls that come with using technology.

Make sure to catch my first episode with Natalie- Episode 119- Navigating Parenting and Self-Car.

Solo Episode today! In this episode, I delve into my experiences managing anxiety and the need for control while away from home. Accompanying my husband in Houston for his graduate program, I reflect on the meticulous planning and challenges I faced while leaving our 12-year-old son with his grandmother. I explore how this experience highlighted my struggles with letting go and trusting my support systems, as well as my son's growing independence. I discuss the balance between control and flexibility in daily routines, sharing personal anecdotes and emphasizing the importance of open communication in relationships. Addressing anxieties related to parenting, household chores, and partnerships, I aim to show how creating effective systems and allowing others to take responsibility can lead to smoother family functioning and personal growth.

Make sure you didn't miss Pt.1 of this converstation. Today, Michelle Purta and I continued exploring the topic of boundaries and focused on the difference between a boundary and an ultimatum in a relationship. We went through examples of each, and how similar yet different they really are. We defined it for you, and created a great roadmap to help you implement healthy boundaries and avoid giving ultimatums.

My guest today is a relationship coach, and my friend, Francesca Zoia. Conflict in marriage is normal! One of the hardest things for couples to do is to go back to the topic of conflict after it's over, to talk through and heal from the hurt that was done during the conflict. Francesca and I talked about some of the patterns in conflict, and ways to insulate your relationship from negative patterns that lead to future conflict. We also discussed strategies to help you come back together after you have calmed down to reconnect and heal from the conflict.

You get a solo episode with just ME today!!

It has been months since I did a solo episode. Today I share with you some of the busy things that have been going on for me, and how I have had to pivot and make some intentional decisions to be better at handling life. I rolled that into talking about intentional decisions that we need to make in our relationships. I specifically talked about the cycle of conflict in marriage, and the tendency for couples not to come back together in the calm to discuss the issue and create intentional plans to change the problem. Without this, we just get stuck in the same pattern and it gets worse over time. Join me as I walk you through how to do this and to start healing your marriage properly.

My guest today is Miranda Clark, a therapist and podcaster. We explored the complex terrain of transitioning to parenthood and its significant impact on marriages. We discussed the prerequisites for preparing couples for having children, the crucial role of communication and role planning, and the common pitfalls many couples face. We both shared our experiences of working with couples before they have children as well as couples who already have children. We also both shared our personal experiences in our own marriages and parenting journeys amidst the demands of parenting. We discussed the importance of building a solid foundation pre-parenting and how that can help shield marriages from potential stressors brought by children. For existing parents, we underscored that it's never too late to seek help and strengthen marital bonds for the well-being of the entire family.

My guest today is Lee Baucom, a marriage coach, author and speaker. When you are married, your marriage is the most important relationship in your life, because when your marriage suffers, so does everything else. Lee and I had a great conversation about the pause button marriage, which is the idea that couples press the pause button on their marriage because they are too busy prioritizing other things. This leads to couples to feeling disconnected from each other and the marriage spirals in many ways. We gave great tips on how couples can avoid this and also how they can work their way out of it if they find themselves stuck in this pattern.

We had a bit of a technical issue but kept rolling right through!

Today my guest is Natalie Lamb, a life, relationship and grief coach. Natalie and I had spent a little time talking about how grief can impact your marriage (but we will do a full episode on this soon), and then we dove into our topic for today's episode. We had a great conversation about what it means for a couple to create the relationship that they want. To identify what they want, that it's ok for it to look different from other relationships, and how to work towards achieving and nurturing this relationship. We talked about her books and her relationship courses, and you won't want to miss learning more about those.

My guest today is Alex Stark, a Licensed Therapist and Executive Burnout Coach. Alex joined me for the second time on this podcast, and we had a conversation about a topic that I was really looking forward to discussing with her. We talked about what/who the default parent is, and what that actually looks like in a marriage. We explored the difference between choosing to be the default parent versus just taking on that role unwillingly and how the marriage can be positively and negative impacted by the way that couples navigate these dynamics.

So many people are not even familiar with this term, so I highly encourage you to take a listen, and see how this might play out in your own home and marriage.

ONE HUNDRED!!!

I have recorded 100 episodes of this podcast, and I am very excited about celebrating it by recording this episode with my favorite guest...my husband Richard.

He is such a good sport, because this definitely isn't his favorite thing to do, but he did it, and we had a lot of fun recording. We had honest talks about our marriage, our journey to get to this place in our marriage, and the things we have learned along the way!

I highly suggest you watch this on video to get the full effect :-).

Today my guest is Kari Cravalho, a coach for ambitious working moms who need support navigating decisions in motherhood, career and self. We had a wonderful conversation about how to balance being a working parent while also being a good parent. Pursuing personal development is something we all should do even when we are not struggling in a phase of life. When we make choices in life, we need to remember that these choices come with an adjustment, and Kari and I explored how to navigate change in a way that aligns with our personal values and goals. We can't anticipate the changes and struggles that will come up, but we can create a framework to help us navigate change through the lens of our core values.

Well, you'd never think that we would be comparing marriage with companies, but sure enough, they align quite well! This episode is extra fun for me, because not only is my guest an expert in his field, but he is also my cousin! Faris and I dove into what emotional intelligence is, and how it plays out in business and marriages. We explored and how learning to have effective systems and strategies can make incredible changes in the relationships within a marriage and within a company. I loved this conversation, and I know you will too.

A little about Faris:
Having spent over 20 years delivering strategic change for various businesses around the world, Faris has experienced first-hand the fine differences between success and failure. He came to realise that often what hinders institutions from achieving their goals isn’t the quality of their ideas; it’s their ability to engage effectively with others at all levels and remove barriers in their way; aspects he is an expert in. To build on his passion for this Faris set up Shiageto Consulting in 2019 to help businesses and individuals improve their strategic effectiveness.

On top of leading Shiageto, Faris is now an accomplished speaker, writer and contributor for a variety of outlets.

My guest today is a mom who has a great story to share. Carlianne Compton and her husband had their first child during the covid lockdown, and everything they expected and hoped for in their delivery and entry into the parenting journey did not go according to plan. They had to pivot and adjust to parenting alone, without family support. The adjustment that followed was not easy, but they grew together as a couple through it.

I'm joined today by a wonderful relationship coach and therapist, Francesca Zoia. As a relationship coach, she specializes in helping conflict-avoidant women improve their communication in order to achieve clarity, connection, and fulfillment in their relationships. A lot of her work as a relationship coach comes from her expertise as a therapist, but also from being in a challenging long-distance relationship for 9 years. She's learned so much about herself and about the importance of effective communication in her relationship.

We had a great conversation about how important it is to learn the right ways to communicate your needs in your relationship. The importance of first understanding what you want and need in a relationship, and then knowing the right way to communicate this to your spouse is so important, and that can also trickle down to how you parent and communicate with your kids. So many people struggle with the confidence to speak up for themselves and to find their voice, and we talked about ways for you to work through this.

Why is it so hard for us to be honest about struggling? Why do we feel embarrassed or scared to admit that we are not ok, that there is something wrong? Why do we feel that we need to always appear to be good, happy and that we are always ok? No one is always ok! Everyone struggles at times, but we often feel that we can't be vulnerable and that we have to put on the face that we are happy or perfect. I'll dig in to why we do this, and what we can do about it.

When we experience emotional things, they often manifest themselves in some physical way in our body. Most people don't realize that when they experience certain physical symptoms, it's often because of something going on emotionally. When you can learn to listen to your body, it will be so much easier to deal with whatever is going on and to overcome it.

Well folks...today you get a front row seat to what real life can be like for a working mom.

Halfway through recording the episode, my son was unexpectedly dropped off at home. The dogs started barking and things just went nuts...but I kept recording. You will definitely enjoy this episode, and if you get a chance, you should watch it on video as well on my social media or by being subscribed to my emails.

This episode is all about taking an honest look at who we choose to have in our lives. To really examine if they are good for us, and more importantly, if we like who we are when we are around these people.

We all have things that we say to ourselves and thoughts we have that shape the way we view ourselves. Some are positive and some are negative, but many of these thoughts come from external sources. They can come from other people from our past, or as a result of negative experiences that cause us to view ourselves a certain way or compare ourselves to others. So who's negative voice is in your head? Who's voice do you hear when you think negative things about yourself? Is it yours, or is it someone else's. Once you bring this out to the surface, you can start challenging the voice and learn to replace these thoughts with more positive and realistic ones.
