GET THE LEAD OUT: Recent Episodes

Richard Aronson

Lead based paint was pretty popular in the U.S.A, pre-1978. It was great for the paint. Made it last forever. But it was bad for people, especially children that found the sweet lead flavor irresistible to chew on. In the end, they got sick and couldn't function properly. That's what bad thinking is like. You might have the best ideas in the world but if your thinking if full of lead nothing will happen, or worse, it will end of poisoning you and others. Get The Lead Out focuses on exposing bad thinking so that you can live the ultimate life.

In this episode of GET THE LEAD OUT I talk about what you’re talking about, to yourself. You’ll learn how to derail the trains of thought that keep screwing everything up in your life. You’ll figure out how to decode where all that bad thinking came from and how to replace it with the good stuff. I talk about:

  • big hats and anorexia
  • the bucket of thought that is your life
  • Jack Handey and his deep thoughts
  • 3 ways to positively change your life forever

Transcript It’s written that, God gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did. That’s what our self-talk is all about. It shouldn’t be motivational chatter but, instead, impassioned speech that pours out from the depth of your soul bringing dreams to life. Welcome to another episode of GET THE LEAD OUT. Today I’m talking about, well, what you’re talking about, to yourself. Back in 1911, Psychologists noticed that when Victorian women, who habitually wore large, feathered hats walked through doors, they ducked – even if they weren’t wearing the hat. More recently, a study done by scientists in the Netherlands showed that, when, women with anorexia walked though the lab doors, they turned their shoulders and squeezed themselves sideways, even when they had plenty of room. Why am I sharing the information from those two scientific studies? That’s a great question. I’m glad you asked. If you’ve listened to more than one episode of GET THE LEAD OUT you’ve heard me quote the proverb, “As a man thinks in his heart, so is he (and, yes, ladies, that goes for you too).” The way you think, all the time, has everything to do with where you are at in your life, right now. Now, I’m not talking about the flurry of thoughts that go through your mind day after day. I’m addressing that bucket of thinking that you carry around with you all the time.

  • When you’re looking for a joke, you reach into the bucket.
  • When you need to address someone because they hurt you, you reach into the bucket.
  • When you speak to your husband or wife, it comes from the bucket.

Most of us carry the same bucket around for years, never adding to or taking content away from it. We usually lock that thing up somewhere around our Junior year of high school and that, my friend, is who we are the rest of our life. Does it have to stay that way? Of course not. Will it stay that way? That is entirely up to you. Here’s the thing. That bucket that we carry around is full of the thoughts we regularly use to define ourselves. In a sense, it’s not just a bucket that we carry but it’s a media player, playing back the playlist we have setup, that is our life. Those Victorian women, wearing the big, feathery hats, they thought of themselves a certain way and so they acted out what they thought. You might argue that they weren’t thinking about anything but simply reacting based on previous experience, when there hat hit the doorway they were walking through and I would agree with you. But they wore the hats, that made them look bigger than they were, because they felt something inside. How about the women dealing with anorexia, walking sideways through a door? There is almost never previous experience to make them ‘react’ that way. It is pure, 100% thought perception. As a man or woman thinks in their heart so are they. Lots of ladies think they are fat and so they kill themselves through slow starvation. We can talk all about psychology, abuse, needs but at the end of the day no one can make those women think differently except for themselves. That brings me to this episode’s topic, which is Self-Talk. The bucket I mentioned previously is always there and it’s contents are liquid. They can be added to and changed out at anytime and the way we do this is by our self-talk.

In this episode of GET THE LEAD OUT I talk about passion and desire. You’ll learn how to uncover the reason why you aren’t where you want to be in life. Here’s a clue. It has something to do with the thing you spend most of your time on. I talk about:

  • the way you think is the way you will live
  • not everyone can be whatever they want to be in life
  • how I learned to use desire, positively and negatively
  • how you can turn around your life by aiming your passion in the right direction

Transcript Jesse Belle Rittenhouse once wrote, I bargained with Life for a penny, And Life would pay no more, However I begged at evening When I counted my scanty store; For Life is a just employer, He gives you what you ask, But once you have set the wages, Why, you must bear the task. I worked for a menial’s hire, Only to learn, dismayed, That any wage I had asked of Life, Life would have paid. Hi there. Welcome to this episode of GET THE LEAD OUT. I’m your host, Richard Aronson. Today I want to talk to you about desire and passion. There’s an old proverb that says as a man thinks in his heart, so is he (and yes ladies that goes for you, too). The way we think really does determine our attitude and altitude in life. Where do you want to go because if your thinking doesn’t match your imagined destination, you aren’t going to get there. I’m going to throw a fat, hairy fly into the ointment. Lots of people like to say you can be anything you want. Well, I am here to tell you, THAT’S A BIG FAT LIE. It’s not even close to the truth. How do I know? Look around you. There are thousands of people living below their potential and, yet, they WANT to be something different. Policemen, princesses, entrepreneurs, successful wives, husbands, fathers and mothers. These are just a tiny handful of things people desire to become. But do they really desire it? I mean, is it really a deep passion that they are willing go after with all of their heart? Let me give you two examples how this looks and, just to be fair, I’ll use my own life as the setting. I was a really happy child growing up. I always had a smile on my face and was willing to share it with everyone I met. I also had an intense desire to protect people. My best friend growing up would often get bullied by some kids at school so I found myself getting in fights regularly, sticking up for him. When I turned nine years old, something happened. I was introduced to marijuana and was forced to smoke it on a regular basis. I say forced because as a nine year old, I didn’t realize that I could tell someone what was going on without me getting in trouble. Anyway, the pot lead to other things and soon I stopped being that really nice kid. I turned into a troublemaker. I gave my parents lots of reasons to stress out. While I was going through this dark time I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life but I was sure of one thing: my kids would not be the same. I didn’t think about it much but it definitely crossed my mind now and then. Well, thinking about it wouldn’t change anything but one day, as I was causing trouble at home, my mom got in my face and said to me, “I can’t until you have kids and they do the same things you do.” I took my right, pointy index finger, stuck it in her face and said, with as much passion as I could have for anything, “NO THEY WON’T!!!” That was the day a simple thought became a reality. I knew, from then on, that my relationship with my children would determine their outcome in life. They would NOT turnout like I had. They were going to exude love, joy and happiness. Well, I am glad to say that my three kids who are 24, 19 and 16 are all of those things and more. They love their mom and dad.

WHAT KIND OF ROMAN CITIZEN ARE YOU? This week on GET THE LEAD OUT we’re discussing four types of Roman citizenship that existed during the peak of the Roman empire and how this four types are exhibited in our thinking. Back in the day, there were four classes of people that existed in Rom. All of us can identify with one of these classes. These divisions were very important to the Romans and should be to us, too. Each class directly relates to the way we think and the way we live because, as the proverb says, the way you think is the way you are.

  • The lowest class were the slaves. They were owned by other people. They had no rights at all.
  • The next class were the plebeians. They were free people but they had little say in government.
  • The second highest class were the equestrians (sometimes called ‘knights’). Their name means the ‘riders’, as they were given a horse to ride if they were called to fight for Rome. To be an equestrian you had to be rich.
  • the highest class were the nobles of Rome. They were called ‘patricians’. All the real power in Rome lay with them.

You are a visionary. Ideas and plans are constantly popping. You never stop thinking…and that’s the problem. Your thinking. Bad thinking has taken out some of the best people in history. It doesn’t have to be you though. You can take hold of that 7 pounds of gray matter and whip it into shape. Get the Lead Out is a podcast about exposing poisonous thinking and eliminating it. It’s about dealing with the lead in your mind because that’s what bad thinking is like. There is a reason why lead paint was outlawed. Yes, it’s extremely bad for us but so is gasoline if you drink it. The thing is, lead is sweet to the taste so it doesn’t bother us that much to put it into our mouths. Kinda like bad thoughts. They are usually sweet to our mind until we grab a hold of them and make them part of our life. That’s when the trouble begins. Well, our goal here is to get you hating the taste of lead. Instead we want you to get used to thinking about your thinking. Over the next weeks, months and years we will be talking about:

  • Where those bad thoughts came from
  • Exposing the weak foundation of thinking that lead you to where you are today
  • How to overcome bad thinking
  • Learn that failure is not the end of the world
  • …and much more.

Join us every week on Get The Lead Out. Send us your questions and we will answer them during the show.
