In this episode of NewFilters, I break down my thoughts on a black economic and social power and what it requires.

A few days ago I shared a post which led to someone asking me “Is Black economic power easily attainable considering all of the systemic injustices we have faced?’

I wanted to rush to say yes, but after breaking it down I realized it wasway more complex. We are slaves to brands and the black dollar flows out of our community almost as fast as we get it. This question definitely had me thinking, very complex question requires an even more complex answer.

First thing to conceptualize is what would a black economic/social power look like. We would posses the right to govern ourselves, total control of our education, our own police, owning the neighborhood, in charge of our own food supply, and most importantly our own culture/morals set apart from everyone else. Now in order to sustain this what would it require of the people? This is where things get complex again because we would need a drastic change to accomplish this. Because with the current way of thinking is a black economic rise possible?

Go ahead, click on that link to listen in on this conservation to hear some of my ideas on what's needed in-order to rise as an economic and social power.

In this episode, I discuss rap culture and black culture. Most people say rap culture is black culture but is it really?

The majority of rappers today claim to be from the “hard streets” where there were only three options out “to rap, sell drugs or play ball.” Both men and women rappers usually rap about having to sell drugs, killing people, sex, cars, and the designer clothes that they have, with an undertone of an overall lack of regard for rules/authority.

But is this black culture? I think not.

Black culture is rich, beautiful, royal, triumphant, everlasting, trendsetting, did I mention beautiful? And the gifts that we have today have been passed down generations dating back to the beginning of civilization.

Today, the mass majority of black people are hard-working people, getting to a check the legal way. The people selling drugs, killing people, robbing, and stealing are a small percentage of us. They go on become rappers and then get the spotlight to speak for us as a community. But is their perspective the common experience of the typical black person?

I wonder why the worst of our community get blessed with millions and the most exposure to represent us as a people? Is it part of a more sinister plan to control the role models of the black community? Let’s break it down!!

Jokingly said yes, I don't really think he's working for the CIA. But just like crack and guns were sent into “urban areas” to destroy our community. Was Kevin Samuels sent to finish off the family unit as we know it? People say he's blunt, abrasive, and to the point... but is his advice what we need in the black community right now?

With a history of black people not adding to the “American Beauty standard” for years, our women are shamed for being curvy or being too melanated. Media programming pushing hookup culture leaving the idea of committed relationships in shambles. Or the instances of our culture being underrepresented but often imitated do we need another person to tell us how much we don't deserve?

Everyone loves trauma so of course people will line up to hear him belittle people, but is this constructive criticism for the benefit of our community or use of sensationalism to get views?

Let's take a deeper and BREAK IT DOWN on this new episode of New Filters!

On this episode, Uncle Mugga takes a look at the “SB148” a bill recently passed to protect white people from feeling any “guilt” or “distress” when talking about discrimination in a school or business setting and how it correlates with the critical race theory.

National coverage of incidents of police brutality and all that it takes to get a guilty conviction has caused many professors and scholars to re-examine the Critical Race Theory. A theory that racism is embedded in our nations institutions systematically and that today they function to maintain the dominance of white people in our society.

With all the information that we have about CRT, scholars have been pushing to introduce CRT curriculum in the schools to include a different perspective. But Florida had a totally different idea. On Jan 19th Florida passed the SB 148 individual freedom bill, affectionately known as the “Protect White Tears” bill.

Backed by Governer Ron Desantis this bill will allow a white person to sue a school or business if they are made to feel any distress while being taught about discrimination. If anything screams systemically protecting white people it’s this bill !!

Usually I stay from politics but this one was too interesting to stay away from. If you know nothing about this bill join me for this conversation defiantly some gems.

I'm hearing that 2022 is going to be a very special time because this is the Year of Alignment. It’s time for major CHANGE in all areas of your life. It’s time for all of us to get our affairs in order. It’s time for a little bit of straightening😂. All jokes aside, 2022 is here and we should all be ready for this season of blessings.

Around the new year just like every other year it's tradition for people to start setting goals. I always hear people saying “New year, New me” but I want to remind you the new year doesn’t make you a new person. Alot of people won’t accomplish their new year goals just because of that.

Don't get caught up romanticizing the idea of starting a new year. You are the same person today that you were on January 31st and you have to change yourself to change your situation. The mindset is all wrong and thats what Im going to be talking about on this episode.

Before tackling any goals this year, if you want to be successful, I’m going to need you to do inventory of your strengths and weaknesses and hold yourself accountable to changing yourself internally. Before any real change you must address who you are within. Self accountability is important. We must assess the mindset, trauma, self-limiting beliefs, and character. Think about who you were in the last season and what changes you can make to grow into who you need to be for this season.

This year don’t get caught up in the “31 day gas up” where you ignore all your character flaws and then fall back into your old ways once February starts. This new year I’m asking you to address what’s been holding your back before setting new goals for yourself. You can’t continue carrying the old baggage around, because you will just be repeating the same cycle. Above all let’s begin this year with positive vibes and a prayer asking for faith, understanding, and discernment to manifest abundance, happiness, and miraculous blessings in our new season. This season is OUR season!!! You have to own it with me!

On this episode, I pose a critical question “Has media been influencing behavior and the current role models just puppets of a sinister agenda?”

The Culture is defined as our way of living. The morals, ideology, standards, language of a people, the way we dress, the way we interact with each other, even down to the jobs we take are all apart of the “The Culture”.

Define what our culture represents now?

Who sets the standards/trends for the culture?

Is the culture to help/hurt the people?

How do you change the culture of a people?

What part does media play in influencing the culture?

All of this and more on this episode of New Filters.

Thank you for joining us on another episode of New Filters with Uncle Mugga. On episode 24, Uncle Mugga discusses the power of influence and our responsibility to question what you are being influenced by.

Influence is defined as the capacity to affect the character, development, or behavior of someone or something.

Think about how many influences we have today, both good and bad. Social media, TV, music, movies, artists, influencers, entertainers, friends, family and culture. And how these influences affect us and our children.

We go over Future’s hit single “Stick Talk”, Jhene Aiko hit single “Post to be” and its effect on culture. We also go over the influence of Social activists such as Jay Morrison and his affect on culture.

It’s November ! It’s about to be ONE YEAR since we dropped the first episode. It’s been interesting journey full of healing, milestones, and interesting conversations. I want to thank everyone for rocking with me and I’m excited for what’s to come.

On episode 23, I’m going to breaking down three things that could help you make better decisions in life. My research shows that highly-effective decision makers execute on higher levels because of three key pillars.

  1. Prepare for Failure
  2. Check and Re-check the Basics
  3. Challenge the Limitations

Most people fail before they even start because of poor preparation. Proper Preparation Prevents Poor Performance and making sure you do research will guarantee that any decision you make is an informed one. If you don’t start with a strong foundation what ever your building will fall.

On this episode of New Filters, Uncle Mugga shares his opinion on the pro-life vs pro-choice.

On September 1st, the Texas Abortion law was passed. Making abortion illegal after six weeks making no exceptions for cases involving rape or incest. The law also allows citizens to sue abortion providers and/or anyone that helped the woman get the abortion. This controversial decision has set precedent for other states. Florida quickly adopted the Texas abortion law and people are in fear that eventually this law can probably overturn the Supreme Courts decisions in Roe vs. Wade.

Some people feel like this can infringe on women’s reproductive rights, just another way for the government to control the woman’s body. Another attack on autonomy, another way to inconvenience the low income families.

Should the life of the baby be protected or is it the parents decisions on whether or not the baby lives? This is an interesting conversation and Uncle Mugga wants to continue it with you. We will discuss the Texas abortion law, the history of the roe vs wade court case, the history of planned parenthood a major proponent in the fight to keep abortion legal and the cultural effects of abortion in the United States.

On this episode of New Filters, I talk about the importance of knowing when to change your position. Position is defined as the place where someone or something is located or has been placed. What's your current position? Where are you in life right now?

You may not notice but your position in life is very important and can tell you a lot. Your position can determine your outlook on life, what you see possible. Your position can determine your disposition, your attitude towards life. Your position can also determine how you feel about yourself. People after times define themselves by their position in life not knowing that it's just a season.

There's a position for stagnation, fear, doubt, destruction, denial, and shame. But there's also a position for freedom, abundance, happiness, success, and glory.

Just like there’s a reason for every season there's an opportunity in every position. So no matter the position you are in don't be afraid to pivot and change your position.

On this episode of New Filters, Uncle Mugga answers an interesting question from one of our listeners.

“Uncle Mugga, How can I learn to accept the past?”

How many times have you caught yourself going through the motions, thinking about something that happened in the past?  Or how many times have you wished you could go back and change the outcome of something?  Better yet, how many times have you relieved the past thinking you could have done something differently?

If we’re being honest, the answer would probably be too much to count. Living in the past is something we do instinctively because it's easier to think about what’s happened instead of changing it. But after all that time spent thinking about it, how many times did that change the situation? Probably never because the past is irreversible; it already happened.

Even with all the information, we have today, one of the most significant barriers to achieving growth/success in life is choosing to stay stuck on the past. People dedicate time every day to think about their history, wishing they can change it. Not realizing that all they are choosing to do is relive the pain, disappointment, and trauma of the past.

That is why acceptance is essential. Acceptance is defined as the willingness to tolerate a difficult situation. Acknowledging and accepting there’s nothing that can change the past will be the beginning of your transformation. Instead of re-living pain and trauma, we can learn to accept what can’t be changed then redirect focus on what we do have control over, the present/future.

Uncle Mugga shares three practical steps to start the journey to accepting the past.

  1. Clean the Spilled Milk - Take action to clean up the mess of your past.
  2. Change your Filter- Redirecting your focus to the present moment instead of the past.
  3. Take Control- Accept the past is out of your control, but the present/future is yours to control moving forward.

On this episode of New Filters, Uncle Mugga breaks down the compound effect of good decision-making.

Jake and Paul are both top earners for a fortune-500 company. They were told they were the potential prospects for promotion. Jake panics while Paul shines. Why? Is Paul destined for greatness while Jake doomed for failure? No!

It’s the decision they made. Jake doubted he was fit for the position, fearful that he wouldn’t be able to last and unsure about the future. While Paul, on the other end, stayed confident in his abilities, dedicated, and persistently pursued his goal. Although they were both considered for the promotion, both top earners, Jake, choose doubt and fear while Paul chooses confidence, dedication, and persistence.

How many times have you stepped Into a new season of your life lacking confidence, fearful, and unsure about your future? On the other, how many times have you stayed confident in yourself, dedicated, and persistent on your goal? The power of decision is in your hands don't be like Jake, be like Paul.

How are you gon’ win if you ain’t right within?

In this episode of New Filters, we are here to talk about self-acceptance and self-growth because how are you going to win if you aren’t right within.

When we think of growth, most people start with trying to change things around them. You may want to get a new car, a new job, to create a new business, get into a new relationship, maybe even to achieve some fitness goal. We would categorize those types of things as external change because it’s outside of yourself. While working on dealing with your innermost thoughts, past trauma, self-limiting beliefs, flaws, we would call that internal growth.

Growth is the process of developing yourself physically, mentally, and spiritually. For any growth to sustain itself, it must have a strong foundation. Self-acceptance is that foundation. Self-acceptance is where restoration starts, acceptance. Acceptance of your flaws and strengths is the key to restoring yourself to glory. Heal what’s on the inside; that’s the fertile soil to grow the seeds you’re going to plant.

In this episode of New Filters, I continue the conversation on the difference between casual dating and dating with a purpose.

When you casually date, you can be mentally & physically involved with multiple people. Causally dating is just for dates and getting to know someone but not necessarily to get into a relationship. While dating with a purpose is dating more exclusively with the intention of long-term relationships.

Today, people say they want a serious relationship, but you find them on dates with multiple people. That style of dating defeats the purpose because you spread yourself thin by talking to numerous people at the same time.

In this episode of “New Filters,” I break down the difference between dating for fun and dating with intention.

Today, everyone says they want to end up in a serious relationship, but we live in a world that says it’s okay to “talk” to multiple people while you search for your special someone. Dating today looks more like the three S’s....“Side chicks, Side dudes, and Sneaky links.” People are both mentally & physically involved with multiple people, and the dating scene is messy. To the point that dating is so causal now that you hardly see things evolve into anything serious.

In this episode, I share gems reminding you Quality is better than quantity, and being exclusive is better than always being available. New Filter! Check out this episode for gems on dating with intention. Make sure to Follow @Newfiltersthepodcast on Instagram for updates and to stay connected.

On this episode Uncle Mugga talks police brutality, the inception of the police system in the United States, the “culture”, and how self accountability might be better than asking for “change”.

There’s seems to be a trend of the police using deadly force with black people, for petty crimes, but somehow they’re able to apprehend white mass murderers without incident. George Floyd, Sandra Bland, Freddie Gray, Mike Brown, Sean Bell all were murdered by police. I ask the question is the system flawed ? Or is the system working exactly how it was created to operate?

The revolution will not be televised because it won’t come in the form of a “March/protest” or in the form of a “police conviction”. That’s all “symbolic change” to make it seem like there’s changes. The revolution comes in the form of progressive thinking, challenging cultural norms and creating new ones, self accountability and spiritual development.

Every Black man and woman, all the black youth in United States should listen to this episode. New filters for a new perspective !

It’s February, Black History Month!!! We are celebrating black excellence, black history, and all of the achievements of this rich culture that we’re proud to be apart of.

In lieu of black history I’ve decided to have a conversation about the legacy of one the greatest to ever play basketball, Micheal Jordan. Just to list a few of his accolades rookie of the year, six-time NBA champion, six-time NBA Finals MVP, Defensive Player of the Year, 14-time NBA All-Star, Ten scoring titles — a NBA record, retired with the NBA’s highest scoring average of 30.1ppg and was honored as a hall of fame inductee. But his biggest accolade to date was his cultural impact, Jordan’s influence transcended all racial barriers as he became an idol globally.

With one the most sought after sneakers, the trophies, cars, houses and fame one can lost in the accolades of the basketball legend. Caught up in the fruits of his hard work all the while forgetting the most important element to his success, decision. Early on in Jordan’s career he was faced with an important decision that could have changed the entire trajectory of his career.

This week on New Filters listen to Uncle Mugga talk about Micheal Jordan the G.O.A.T, how he used the power of decision, how rejection can be good, and why you should never doubt the process.

There’s also a very taboo opinion of what submission means, is it for control or just two different roles men and women play in the relationship?
