This show tries to explain the creation of the international system of politics by examining treaties and agreements over the course of history.
Today, we are going to apply our findings of the first to episodes, and take a look at four major theories of international relations, their assumptions, and their ideas. We will also apply them to a little example.

Welcome to "Treatise on Treaties"!
In this first episode of the new podcast that tries to explain the history and origin of the international system of politics by analysing historical treaties, we are, after a short introduction into the show, going to discuss the concept of statehood. What is a state? Why and how do states emerge? We will discuss the theory crafted by Francis Fukuyama, and see how states are a result of necessity. Enjoy!
The song I am going to use as an introduction is the "Gigue" out of Georg Friedrich Händel's Suite in D minor, HWV 437, performed by Constantin Stephan. Thank you very much for letting me use this piece of music under creative commons.
