The Minor League Minute is a podcast geared towards former collegiate and professional athletes looking to make their transition from sports to the workforce. The podcast features former athletes who have made this move, sharing their challenges, success and experiences for those in the same situation.
This episode we meet Alex Katz. A NY native who carved out a successful college career at St Johns and has pitched in the minors for the White Sox and Oriole.He continues to work towards the goal of pitching in the majors. Alex also competed in the 2017 World Baseball Classic for Team Israel and is hoping to grab the gold in the 2021 Olympics. In the mean time, he's set himself up for post sports success with Stadium Custom Kicks. Tapping in to custom design, Alex has built an impressive business customizing shoes for athletes and now has taken it to the consumer.
This episode connects us with Bats legend and former MLB/MiLB player Corky Miller. A product out of Yucaipa, CA, Miller not only holds the record for minor league games played as a Louisville Bat, but also helped mentor some great players and catchers along the way. Corky talks us through his time in the game and what his transition looked like. He drops some great info!
Former Colgate stand out Dave Thomas shares his story with us. From his early days in junior hockey, on to Colgate and his post hockey career. Dave shares about staying in hockey as a career and the decision to make a career change. He also shares his favorite career body checks (given and received!) and one on future NHL'er Chris Higgins!
In this week's episode we talk with former MiLB player Garrett Broshuis. As we learn about Garrett's transition from the game to practicing attorney, we also learn about how he "owned" Big Papi, David Ortiz! And as a former player, we get to learn about the work Garrett is doing for current minor leaguers with the Advocates for Minor Leaguers group.
For The Minor League Minute's kickoff episode, we have former MLB and MiLB pitcher Chad Reineke. A current Louisville, KY resident, Chad was drafted in 2004 by the Astros and spent time in the majors with San Diego, Oakland and Cincinnati. Following his time in the game, Chad made the transition to the workforce and is very successful in the financial services industry.
We'll hear about Chad's early beginnings in baseball, his rise and success at Miami of Ohio and his journey between the bigs and the minors. We'll also hear Chad talk openly about when he knew it was "over" and time for the next step. Chad shares his experience and how he hopes to help other ballplayers and athletes who are faced with the same decisions.
