We've got a very special edition of chat chit this time! I'm joined by the delightful Tiff from @sashyorks to explore the topic of mental health and youth homelessness in York.
In this episode, we discuss recent statistics about NEETs and the demographics of people impacted by youth homelessness in York, the mental health toll this takes on young people, as well as what a good outcome looks like for a service user of SASH.
SASH is a charity that tries to stop young people from becoming homeless. There can be such a huge impact of homelessness on mental health so it is important to show what support is out there if you require support with somewhere to live.
You can contact them by phone on 03300 562 259, email via info@sash-uk.org.uk or visit their website https://www.sash-uk.org.uk/ for more details about their services.

What is neurodiversity? how does it differ to personality and what are the things we can do to try understand and embrace our difference? These are just a couple of the questions that Chris tries to answer with Ben and Becky. Ben works on the ADHD pathway and Becky on the Autism pathway in CAMHS. This episode gives a real insight into the sort of things people who are neurodivergent may struggle with, but also the ways to try and manage these potential struggles and how they overlap with mental health. We thought the place to start with Surviving in the wild would be first to discuss the issues around the stigma of mental health and why people don't reach out. Firstly you ought to know you can watch all the videos of the project on hour youtube channel Surviving In the wild - YouTube
Stigma then; Why do we feel it? How does it feel? Do people feel it differently? Liam and Ben will be joining me to answer all of these questions. Both cocreation and engagement dabblers, they will be joining me (chris) to spit some facts and obscure metaphors around mental health and reaching out in this fundamentally odd first episode. See the bookmarks below if you want to jump to different sections of the episode. Enjoy.

After 60 episodes of chat chit where I have had had endless conversations with fantastic people, I (Chris) am leaving York Mind and therefore chat chit. In this episode I have pulled together some of my favorite conversations, some of the weirder conversations and some of my favorite pieces of advice that have been given over the years. Chat chit will still continue just without me as the host aswell as all the other parts of the project. You may also hear me with the mini series of surviving in the wild where we talk about different aspects of mental health with clinicians and proffessionals with lived experience, so tune in there.
A massive thank you to all who have featured on the podcast as it wouldnt have been possible without all those people being so honest, open and genuine about their mental health experiences. Most of all thank you to all of you who have tuned in for a heck of a lot of chit chat. I hope it has helped in one way or another and that you know after listening that whoever you are, you deserve the support and you deserve to get better. I know it doesnt feel like it all the time but it can, you just have to find the thing that works for you, and trust me i'm still working that out too.
Take care,
Chris

In this episode, Chris talks to Holly and we cover a variety of things from grief and self harm to relationship counselling and Ann Summers. This episode has a number of fantastic takeaways but what I think is most important in this episode is the importance of self love and self care. We know them phrases are thrown about abit but we really get to grips with Hollys journey of self love and how it has impacted her mental health. Big thank you to Holly for being so open and honest and joining me on this episode of chat chit. Jump to different sections of the podcast below.

Liam and I have had a strangely similar life and the crossovers started to get a bit freaky at times. Even though our stories of mental health do run parallel to one another, the way we understand it and how we learn from our struggles keeps changing and adapting. This is one of the key things we hear from Liam in this podcast where ho he understands is mental health has evolved and changed and likewise the ways he manages it. Liam is the head of cocreation for Tees Esk Wear Valley and talks all about the value of listening to peoples stories and from this it helps to inform and improve services. An absolute pleasure to have him on the podcast and to hear about what he has gone through and overcome.

Every year the University of York and Lancaster University lock horns in the battle of the Roses. This year, they have partnered with York Mind to raise awareness of the mental health struggles and fundraise for the charity.

TJ sets an example to us all with her sincerity and candor when it comes to talking openly about her experiences and is part of the reason why the Roses partnership with York Mind exists this year. Below are the ways you can donate to York Mind as well to the blog post about TJ's journey.

Trigger warning - We do mention suicide between minutes 10:30 to 23.
What is the buzzer game I hear you ask! Well in this episode of chat chit we see whether you can have a serious conversation about mental health alongside chatting about who your first tv crush was. Every 20 minutes an alarm will go off and we will answer a completely random and unrelated question.
We welcome Elliot who is the area lead for Andy's man club to talk about his journey of mental health. From early life and moving south to emotive music and fantasy football. We weave all sorts of tangents to try and show you that having serious conversations about mental health doesn't have to always be so serious.
I dont quite believe that Elliot is 22 after learning everything that has gone on in his life over the last 10 years, but nether the less we get some fantastic insight into his story and the great work he is doing now with Andy mans club.
Do we sometimes overcomplicate mental health? Are certain people on social media detrimental to male mental health? Who was your first tv crush?

We spent the afternoon in York railway station asking people for tips for managing their mental health in the Christmas period. There are some fantastic insights from people in this episode aswell as some laughs talking about some christmassy things. From crocheting to watching spiderman, there are all sorts of tips and ways people manage and things like to do in the Christmas period to help their mental health.

I can see the benefit of having a mental health nurse having such a calming voice. I think its a pretty good benefit when you are doing a podcast on mental health aswell. No i'm not talking about me, i'm talking about Nathan, this weeks guest on chat chit. Eloquence and calmness is personified in this guy where we cover a whole host of things from panic attacks and university to books that have helped and "RMDJ". What is RMDJ I here you ask....well you'll have to go listen to the podcast to find out. We also get an insight for the first time into what EMDR is as a form of therapy, as well as covering topics like schizophrenia, sleep, medication and hip hop music. See below what goes on in the episode if you want to jump to a particular section! Enjoy.

We start with James blunt and end with Linda McCartney Sausages but what we have as the filling for this taste sensation of an episode, is a selection box of insight and advice on managing and understanding our mental health.
In this episode we chat to Emily who is well versed to being in front of a microphone and she lets us in on her mental health journey, from understanding what anxiety even is to struggling with body dysmorphia. Along the way in this episode we understand the struggles of being an "adult" in your 20s when you are trying to find your place in the world. What we come to understand is the way that video journaling and yoga amongst other things has allowed Em to understand who she wants to be and how she manages her mental health. Enjoy!

It's not easy doing the podcast. With so many out there, we think it probably comes naturally to people to be able to talk about their experiences into a microphone with the world to hear and 2 and a half years ago when I met Beth I think she would probably say that she would've never come on the podcast. However in this latest episode we speak to Beth all about her journey, from self esteem and school, to relationships, self destructive behavior and the ways she has come out the other side. Beth is the social media and marketing guru who keeps us all on the straight and narrow at York Mind and has now branched out into not just creating her pieces of artwork for the charity but for businesses and beyond. We get a very honest account of what it is like to grow up with lots of pressures and Beth gives us some fantastic pieces of knowledge on ways we can manage and why we should get the help for ourselves

In this special episode of the podcast we are joined by Imam Ammar Sacha who is the 23 year old Imam at York Mosque. We cover a fair chunk of things in this episode from mental health stigma to what teachings are in scripture about mental health. Alongside this we talk about societal perceptions of Islam and the impact of the riots on the community. We also answer a number of questions that were kindly sent into us by members of York Mosque where we cover self harm, intrusive thoughts and Wudu.

3 years in a row we have now recorded an episode of chat chit on the hottest day of the year. This didnt stop us from having a great laugh recording this chaos though.
In this episode we have lovely representatives from the Mental health advisory group "Nothing about us without us". The group exists to improve mental health for young people across the whole of the Integrated care system, where alongside understanding what the priorities of the group are, we learn the benefits of coproduction not only to the creation and improvement of services but how getting involved individually has positively impacted their mental health.
These lot work tirelessly to better the system for their peers and you can hear the passion in the way they talk.
We start by talking about about formation of the group and then how they all got involved. We talk about the challenges faced by the group alongside some of their favorite moments and finally get down to the crux of what they would like to change about the system.
Enjoy.

I'm going to say it, I think this is the most heartwarming episode of chat chit yet. In this episode we get some of the best storytelling and anecdotes that we have heard yet on the podcast, where every story comes with a different way Phil has learnt to understand his mental health, his Aspergers and the loss of his dad.
This episode takes a bit of a longer format because we really get to grips with all aspects of Phil growing up and becoming the absolutely outstanding guy he is today. From his diagnosis of Aspergers in primary school and how we understood it throughout his education and beyond. Aspergers is now more commonly know as ASD(Autism Spectrum Disorder) but we refer to it as Aspergers because that's how Phil understands it.
We do cover in quite a lot of detail the loss of Phil's father so if this is something that make trigger you then please be aware of it when listening. I do highlight it when we get to that part of the podcast so don't worry you get a heads up.
From pencil sharpening to commentating, Phil guides us through gaining greater independence and his journey through the world.

From rejection to reviews, auditions to lifestyle we cover so much of what encompasses the theatre industry and how it needs to adapt to provide greater opportunity for both a wider and more diverse sect of society to access the arts .

We are back and kicking off season 3 in the middle of Mental health awareness week with a podcast where we maybe go off topic and talk a bit too much about climbing and getting into mother nature...
In this episode of Chat chit Chris talks to Luke who talks about the loss of his mother the other things that began to make his mental health spiral. Luke tried a number of things to help his mental health but ultimately a period of time during covid allowed him to change his perspective on his life and change the trajectory he was on. He is a very impressive guy and has started a mental health social called "Chalking helps" to allow a space where like minded people can come together to climb and connect.
Below is a run down of different parts of the podcast but what we learn is that movement and adventure in the big outdoors are two crucial things that help him manage his mental health.

We know that Christmas can be a particularly tough time for people who may struggle with their mental health; from masking at social events to feeling guilty when we do experience them glimmers of fun and enjoyment.
This links very closely to those who have experienced loss and why this Christmas special focuses on how to support others and yourself through the festive season(and other significant dates) when you have experienced bereavement in the family. We welcome Jo, the founder of BCSY (Bereaved Children Support York) on to the podcast to discuss both her experiences of losing her husband and her sons father as well as the charity she set up. On this episode, amongst talking about our favourite Christmas songs and traditions, we chat about how to manage expectations around Christmas and the communication and honesty that is essential when you've lost a close family member.
Whether you are a parent trying to support your family through the festive season or a young person trying to understand the loss and bereavement you are going through, this episode of chat chit gives some gems of advice of how to best deal with significant dates and the Christmas season.

You may have heard in episode 18 that we did a podcast with Mike from changing lives about addiction and the impacts of drugs and alcohol. In this episode we focus on a different type of addiction and the impact gambling can have on your mental health.
My friend Ryan or "Coombsy" joins me on this episode of chat chit to discuss his gambling addiction and his mental health. We discuss Gambling and mental health in tandem and how there is a bit of a chicken and the egg complex when it comes to his story where both became intertwined with each other. From being a serial liar to chasing the wins, we hear about how Ryan has now learnt to manage his addiction and the advice he gives to people who might be struggling with the same thing. He talks about the help he got and how he stays well now. Amongst discussing the larger topics around the stigma of addiction, we hear how stays busy now and give himself purpose through his passions of football and his agency "Inter Sport Management UK"
I have known Ryan since I was 11 and it was great to have him come on a talk so honestly about what he went through because it is certainly not an easy topic to be so open about. A top bloke with a big heart and that certainly comes across in the episode.

We are back with another episode of chat chit and in this one we chat to Emily about her experiences. Emily is one of the York Mind Young person steering group and initially when we first started releasing the podcast she had no desire to speak about her mental health on a podcast. 18 months on and talking and being open about her experiences about what she has been through is a key thing that helps her maintain her mental health. From trying to understand her diagnosis’s to recognizing the how medication can act as a crutch for her mental health, we go through Emily's story and see how far she has come.

Now if you have listened to the podcast for long enough, you will know that we try to focus on the ways that people manage and help themselves to improve their mental health but what about the things that may negatively impact us?
In this episode I speak to the absolute legend that is Mike from Changing lives (alcohol and drug use service in York). We have an open and honest conversation about the impact of certain substances and how they may impact our mental health including some personal anecdotes. We are not trying to scare anyone into never touching alcohol ever again, but what we did want to do is highlight some ways that you can perhaps reduce your consumption or get support with your drug or alcohol usage.
We focus predominantly on alcohol and marijuana, but what we also talk about is how different drugs come with different hangovers and how they can act as con men. Whether you are using drugs or alcohol as a way to mask and try ignore something that might be going on with your mental health, or you just want to cut down a bit, this episode gives you a way in to start understanding how you may be able to start talking about it.

It may feel sometimes like managing your mental health and trying to go to work aren't exactly the most compatible things. For me(Chris), I have always struggled to stay in a job long term because of the impact of stress and a full time job on my mental health.
So in this episode we interview Vicky and Mark who work at York Mind to try support people and businesses to make workplace wellbeing at the forefront of employers minds. We hear about their lived experience of what helps them individually in the workplace, as well as absolutely key advice about how we can keep ourselves healthy at work. Some more unusual anecdotes about fish and the Teletubbies creep into this episode, but it doesn't take away from their insight.
They also talk about York Mind has to offer in terms of training and the new "Knowledge hub" which has been created so that employers have access to information and resources to help their employees through creating a mentally healthy work environment.
You can sign up to it here York Mind - Knowledge Hub or by contacting corporatewellbeing@yorkmind.org.uk

I promise I'm not even trying to come up with weird names for podcast episodes now, they just fall out my brain.
Anyways, welcome back to chat chit and on this episode we have the lovely Beth on the podcast. In this episode we touch on soooo much, it felt like we could've done a 3 parts to this episode, but that's probably because we kept getting distracted and started reminiscing about Sheffield university. Whether you are going to the University of Sheffield or not, this episode covers moving to university and trying to manage anxiety to finding out who you are as a person. We also talk about her dealing with bereavement of a both a close friend and family member.
Beth shifted careers and is now a trainee counsellor at 1-2-1 counselling and talks how the impact of her own mental health impacted the change of direction to becoming a counsellor. We talk through all the ways Beth manages and learn more about the benefits of Hula hooping to Chaka Khan....
I really enjoyed recording this episode and I hope you feel the same hearing it back.

Look at you you lucky person being treated to a bonus episode of chat chit. In this episode I have teamed up with Richard from Cornwall Mind to produce a collaboration podcast on the trials and tribulations of producing a mental health podcast. Cornwall Mind produce "A space to speak your mind" which is a radio show and podcast that has been going for over 4 years now. It has been produced by people with lived experience as part of one of their well being groups. In this episode we talk about some of our favourite moments producing the podcasts and some of the things that we find a little bit harder. If you are listening to this then you obviously know where to find chat chit but if you want to hear other episodes of a "a space to speak your mind" you can find it here.

I must start by apologizing because yes, the episodes of chat chit are now going out every 3/4 weeks rather than every two. You'll just have to check out some of the episodes you haven't listened to yet.
In this Episode we chat to 121 counselling's Holly. Holly talks about her lived experience of having anorexia nervosa and also how she tries to manage her anxiety and transitions through school. We talk about the way that her struggles have influenced the work she does today with 121 counselling and the work she wants to pursue in the future. These things have given Holly her "purpose" and because of this, alongside eating the same breakfast every day(Granola, Yoghurt and a kiwi), Holly is in a much better place. She is such a kind soul and through the work she does, just wants to give back to other people who may need the support.

A couple of weeks ago we had Helena share her story of OCD, anxiety and depression as well as tangents galore. This week on the pod we get to hear the experiences of her dad Martin; how he managed, how his faith helped him and how it was for him when she decided to go to New Zealand... This is the third parent episode of chat chit and was great to chat to Martin about his and Helena's experiences. You will hear his dulcet tones talk about how his work within Stockton hall hospital helped him be objective when it came to supporting Helena and focus on what she need. What you can tell throughout this conversation though is how Martin is such a caring and considered guy and what I would class as "one of the good ones".

In this episode we hear about Helena's story. This episode acts as part 1 in a mini series, where in a couple of weeks we get to hear a second perspective on the same story, when Helena's dad (Martin) talks openly about how he tried to support her.
This episode covers a range of topics from self stigma and denial of mental health to how Helena has come to manage her OCD after a number of years. From Chris absolutely going round the houses to explain intrusive thoughts with a dog as a metaphor, to a planned trip to New Zealand on her own, this episode of chat chit definitely covers a lot.
Due to her anxiety and OCD, Helena took time off school, but how she has battled through and still is pursuing her future in physiotherapy and the involvement she has trying to improve mental health services is absolutely outstanding and is so eloquent with how she explains her story.

We are back after a mid season break with the accidental pride podcast. In this episode we hear Roo's story of mental health and how they came to understand their gender. Me and Roo have known each other for a long time, but unfortunately this doesn't stop me from accidentally misgendering them at the beginning of the podcast. We discussed it and we kept it in because we thought it was an important topic to talk about. Roo is eloquent with how they describe their story, but also very knowledgeable when explaining both sexuality and gender, and the link they can have to mental health.
Both educational and a really good listen I hope that people find as much value in listening to it, as I did in recording it.

We switch this episode up a bit and start by focusing on the things that help Andy and Chris. In all honesty, we go off topic and talk about mountaineering and climbing alot, but what we do get round to is the way that both these activities can be great for your mental health and can act as a great metaphor for mental health.
We hear how climbing acts as a stress release and a preventative measure for Chris to manage his mental health, and we hear how Andy co founded an organization called Black Dog Outdoors to help facilitate people to get out in to nature and do something to aid their mental health. These guys are just genuinely lovely blokes and it was great to go to the core of the podcast and chat chit about mental health and what helps us.

Emma leads a number of champions to raise both awareness of Mental health and break some of the stigma around it. Links to all they do below! In this episode we understand the stigma that Emma has faced when it has come to dealing with her mental health; from work place stigma to self stigma. Self esteem and human connection play a big role in all of our lives and and Emma talks about these things with upmost importance of it when it comes to managing your mental health. Alongside talking about her escapism and love for aqua marine animals and crocodiles, Mabel talks in depth about her diagnosis of Tourette's and her more recent diagnosis of ADHD. She talks about how they impact her life daily but also how she manages them, particularly in the workplace. Mabel is a good friend of mine from York and talks so openly and honestly about her struggles with both neurodivergence and depression. Even in the face of adversity these things have not stopped her from pursuing and successfully continuing on the pathway to becoming a lawyer.

Why do I feel like this? Sometimes this is a question which we try to answer when we are feeling sad, or anxious and sometimes you just cant put your finger on it. In this episode we hear Sarah talk about the self help support she received from IAPT and how she tried to get to get to grips with the very question of why do I feel like this. In this episode we also hear about the boundaries Sarah sets with work and in her relationships with friends so she continue to manage her mental health as well as how changing the emphasis around the language is an important way of not spiraling. From team sports to crying in a corridor we chat a load of chit about different ways Sarah manages and what she is doing now.

Trigger Warning - Tom Talks about how he lost his brother to suicide. He talks about this in the first 10 minutes of the podcast.
In this episode we learn how Tom manages both his mental health through his absolute commitment to routine as well as how he supported his family when times are tough. Tom's experiences have motivated him to pursue and advocate for mental health and speaking out, where he has done many talks in schools and used his social media "Tom's.Talks" to motivate people to reach out for support and encourage them to be the best version of themself. Tom is a big dreamer with a big heart and you hear that in the podcast where you understand his story and how he manages.
Trigger Warning - This episode does reference chronic illness, self harm, trauma, and suicide which you may find triggering. It may show you that you are not alone at there with whatever it may be struggling with, but please be aware.
Although at times this episode covers some heavy topics it is full of loads of advice and ways to manage. The title hints at just a tiny part of what we cover in this episode, where I interview Mimi with her story. She speaks so articulately about her art as a huge way of managing and communicating about her mental health, as well as having a cowboy to chat chit to her when she needs distracting. We cover both her chronic illnesses and how that impacts her mental health and ultimately that its okay to be apologetically yourself and you cant offend anyone for just existing!!

In the newest episode of chat chit we get a teachers perspective on Mental health. Mr walker/James/ Sir are all different ways I refer to him in this episode, but what you get to hear is a little bit about his struggles as well how it is for a teacher to try support young people in schools. He talks about his running as a way to clear his head and his fundraising for York Mind. He truly is a great guy and teacher and he likes lego aswell so what's there to dislike?
Have a listen and hear how a teacher may support you in school and how there are different ways you can ask for support rather than having to battle it all on your own!
We return to the land of services in an episode where we talk all things The Island; what they offer, who they are and what they do to help young people in York. If you don't believe George and Lucy who work there, then we also get a little flavour from young people who go to The Island and one of their volunteers mentors! This episode jumps around from opinion to opinion and from coping mechanism to coping mechanism but hopefully gives you an idea of what this charity offers and a few bits of advice from them! I also include a new segment where we have graduated from talking songs to a new form of media where podcasts get a big look in.
We are back... In this episode we return to the orignal format and hear a young persons story (Maya) and how she has navigated her way through the world and her mental health. I think chat chit in its purity is heard in this episode where we go off on many a tangent towards the end chatting chit about Harry potter and nostalgia. But what we do also discuss are Maya's coping mechanisms, panic attacks, ADHD and whole lot of other stuff we cram into half an hour.
Enjoy...
Christmas isn't always the easiest time for a lot of people and I include myself when I write this, so in this episode we have Kelly and Fliss from the CAMHS eating disorders team. Christmas sometimes is even harder for those who might struggle with their eating so in this episode we explore the things you can do to both manage at this time of year generally as well as with eating. We chat festive tradition, ndubz and stepping into Christmas, as well as getting a surprise visit from someone special at the end of the episode.... I wish you a very Merry Christmas but most importantly, make sure to not put too much pressure on yourself and allow yourself to have a break. Enjoy and i will see you in January for season 2....

Well, this is the final episode of the season and in this episode myself and Elizabeth look back over the series and chat about what coping mechanisms different people use and whether we would use them. Alongside that we do the inaugural chat chit awards as well as go through a few questions that some people asked us on Instagram @chatchitpodcast. We thought this might just be a fun way to look back and have a chat about a few of the episodes as well as give few people a bit of a taster about what we have talked about in the last few months. This finale also gave us an opportunity to thank everyone who had been on the podcast so far and appreciate their stories and how extraordinary they are. Enjoy
Weirdest episode yet. Maybe not for you lot but it was for me, because in this episode I chat chit to my own mum. A couple of weeks ago we chatted to Jackie(E16) about her daughter Helens story(E2). This is the second episode of a similar nature where we talk to my mum and what she did to try understand mental health, help me at the time I was struggling and help herself. Hopefully this gives an opportunity to people to understand what a parent might be thinking and a few tips and tricks that might help if you are trying to support someone. I genuinely really enjoyed recording this episode and hope it can show the way you can be open with your family about your mental health and what you may be going through. Enjoy.
This episode follows nicely on from last week. Last week we heard a perspective of Charlie who works with people who suffer from eating disorders and this week we hear Elizabeth chat chit to Ciara who discusses her anorexia and her story of mental health. From when she was hospitalised to now taking responsibility for her health and fighting the urge to listen to her eating disorder. In the episode we also find out who the heck Robert is, as well as a fleeting interruption from Chris and how Elizabeth ran away from hospital for a shower. We see so many comparisons to last week’s episode but get to now hear it on a first person account. Enjoy.
Chris, me, myself, and I is back on the podcast this week chatting about eating disorders. This week I speak to Charlie about what its like to work with people who struggle with eating disorders. I wont lie, I found this episode hard to record and talk about but its very much needed. He explains his perspective as well as giving an insight from some of the people he works with. The jury is still out on whether or not Charlie is actually south Yorkshires biggest radio star but we definitely do get is a better understanding of how eating disorders can affect and take over parts of your life and what you can start to do about it. Enjoy.
Chat chit is not the only place in York who is trying to normalise conversations around mental health. In this episode Elizabeth, talks to Lauren who is a one of York Ending Stigmas(YES) Champions. On top of Laurens obsession with Pink, we hear Lauren story and how she manages her mental health through having safe spaces to talk about it and the impact of music. To Find out more about what YES do look https://www.yorkcvs.org.uk/york-ending-stigma/
Did you listen to Chris talk to Helen in Episode 2? Well in this episode Chris talks to Helens mum, Jackie, about the exact same situation. We hope this episode gives a different perspective to help both those who might not be sure what their parents are thinking, or gives some comfort that you aren't alone out there if you are trying got support someone with their mental health. Whether you are parent, a friend, or someone trying to manage their mental health, this episode might give a few tricks, tips and understanding that you can relate to. In Helens own words "#mymumsalegend" which I can whole heartedly say I agree with after recording this pod. Enjoy
In this episode, Chris chats chit to a duo of Sarahs from York Mind who run the groups and mentoring parts of the young people’s service. Amongst the silliness and the jingles, we find out what help and support is out there that may differ from things like counselling. One Sarah is a northerner and the other a southerner so don’t worry you very much will understand who’s talking the drivel about Alan partridge, Coldplay and hedgehogs when you listen. Enjoy
No this episode is not solely about jam. In this episode I give my story of mental health. We thought that there had been snippets along the way so it was about time I gave my triggers, coping mechanisms and story in a little bit more detail. From struggling with depression and taking time off school to explaining why I now work in mental health and the importance of purpose. I get interviewed on my mental health journey and really struggle to remember im the one being interviewed and not the other way round.
In this episode, Elizabeth is back on the other side of the Microphone and interviews Christina. We don't just hear a single check in this week but 2 with Christina recording this episode over two episodes because she just had more that she want to tell and share with people! We hear about when Christina was sectioned and how she lives in supported accommodation as well as all the tips and tricks that she now uses to manage her mental health including using Kyra's 18-25 rose project which you can find out more about here https://www.yormind.org.uk/activities-safe-spaces/kyra/ . She has overcome so much in her life and we hear some good news towards the end of the podcast. Have a listen because its pretty impressive what she has achieved. Enjoy
In this episode we talk to Matty, Matthew, Gravesy, a man with many names but only one story. With it being exam results season, we decided to bring this episode forward because Gravesy talks about the pressure of school, the issues with failures and how it all became too much for him during University to the point he tried to take his own life. Since then Matty has gone through therapy and now talks about how breaking down complex problems into a "series of simple solutions" is one way he manages his mental health. We hear him talk about how he manages his mental health but also how he works for the barmy army and all the fundraising and endurance challenges he has taken on for good causes. Enjoy.
You've had snippets of both mine and Elizabeth's mental health stories throughout the first 10 episodes, but we thought it was only right if you knew what our actual stories were especially when we are asking others to talk about theirs. In this episode we hear Elizabeth talk about panic attacks and trauma and how that has affected her. A wasp looms in the darkness ready to interrupt the podcast but ultimately we survive and hear about what Elizabeth does on top of having an ugly cry and and singing in the shower which you might have heard on the other pods. A few plug ins about the Yormind website and few thank yous, but we have a laugh in this episode where you get to hear a little more about us.
Me, myself and I otherwise known as Chris is back. Possibly the most chaotic episode yet being disturbed by angle grinders, planes and a radio interview. Either way in this episode we hear how Vicky manages her mental health in ways ranging from crying over 24 hours in A&E to confiding in her mum. She calls Chris out for making jam but ultimately we get an understanding about how depression effected are and school and the way she has come through some pretty dark moments to be who she is today and how now "most days are good days".
Trigger warning : This podcast does references suicide and mental health difficulties. Immediate support can be found at https://www.yormind.org.uk/help-right-now/crisis-lines/
In this episode Elizabeth talks to Harry who is actually someone she used to teach. They talk about medication playing a big role in the way Harry tried to manage with his mental health but also how further down the line therapy and counselling became a necessity. Mental health a little bit like road rage? Not sure, will let you decide on that one. Have a listen and we hope it gives a bit more of an insight into what someone goes through and their thought process and most importantly the way Harry comes to manage his mental health.
Bit of a different one this week...in this episode, Chris interviews Alex who is one of the children well being practitioners( I think I got that right). They talk about what to expect from CAMHS, what they are there to do and what his experiences of working there are. We go off on a dairy lee dunker tangents but the aim of this pod is to show what CAMHS do and the sort of things to expect. CAMHS is a mental health service for moderate to severe mental health issues for people under the age of 18. See what you think
WARNING - In this episode Chris and James do talk about seizures. Please be wary if listening to this may trigger a seizure of your own.
James is 26 and talks to Chris through how losing his mum at a young age has impacted him further on in life, as well as how he came out twice and the impact of this on his mental health. Farm animals, killer whales and living in Canada also get talked about. Bit of a chaotic episode at times with the problems recording but hope you enjoy it nonetheless.
Chris is back with a brand new track. He talks to Olivia about self harm, anxiety and whiteboards. Olivia talks about her experiences and how different people and alcohol can impact your mental health and how coping mechanisms sometimes need to be varied. Chris chats chit for a bit and probably has a ramble.
Enjoy my lovely listeners.
Elizabeth is back and interviews Matt. We see Matt's Mental health Journey from different points in his life and how at times it okay to reach out for help, feel better and then have to reach out again after his mental health taking a down turn. From counselling and grief to potato peeling and his own form of mindfulness, Matt's dulcet tones give a soothing podcast with a depth of insight and experience of mental health and life in general.
Lots of peoples mental health stories start at during school. Harrys actually started a little later and talks about what it was that caused it for him, how social media helps and affects him. He is the founder of Men's Mental Health on instagram and gives an insight into how both his family and friends have really helped him manage.
Enjoy
In this episode we get walked through Helens story, from being sectioned to broccoli, we get a understanding of how diagnosis has helped her but also how a range of different therapies and coping mechanisms are essential to managing your mental health.
Some lovely folk we know have made a Tik Tok raising awareness of OCD. In this episode we talk to Abi and Liv about what they have been up to and also a little bit about what they have been through with their mental health also. It's the first episode Chris isn't there and Elizabeth and the girls use the opportunity to rinse him just a bit...
Enjoy
Explaining how the podcast and the website Yormind came about. Chris and Elizabeth go off on many a tangent to explain why the podcast and website Yormind have been created and what to expect going forward. A little random at times, a little more informative at other points, but ultimately a lot of chatting chit.
Enjoy.
Who knew that watching scooby doo can act as a comforting thing for people when they may be struggling with their mental health. This episode is the Pilot of chat chit and is interviewing 19 year old Tasha who has sought help after starting to struggling in secondary school.
The episode talks about what she dealt with, what she is doing now and some coping mechanisms that aren't probably considered widespread.
Some things in the episode may be triggering to you and the opinions are of the interviewer and the interviewee.
Have a listen, see what you think, it is our pilot episode so keep that in mind. Plenty more to come....
