Hashir Ibne Irshad, CEO Dataverse, tells us that the without analysing political changes and improving the political process, our country cannot move forward in institutional development or even foreign investment. For analysing anything, we need data. In this podcast episode of How Does It Work with Shayan Mahmud, Hashir explains why do we need data, and how will it bring development? How will it make Pakistanis’ lives better? How does his workforce collect data? What kind of information do they get? How does this information get analysed and on what basis? How do they understand the political narratives being built and which narrative is being sold in which areas? What is capacity building? How can you optimise and improve institutions on a large level? Why did Hashir start his projects in smaller Pakistani towns? Who does his workforce consist of and what do they do?
Hashir gets into details of union councils, political shows, swing votes and castes, analysis processes and how all this used to get the pulse of what’s happening. How do they identify swing voters? What are issue-based politics and why do they exist in Pakistan? Why do we as a nation need to focus more on development rather than charity? Why there is such a lack of poverty intervention data and what can be done about it? Does candidate analysis exist in Pakistan? How do parties build narrative? Why don’t they measure if their narrative is selling? How does Hashir make the data transparent and objective? What are the benefits of data? Will the social media wave benefit with data collection?
