"For me, there are three things at play in our work as social workers - power, communication and change. It strikes me that what we are involved in as social workers is influenced heavily through power – power that runs through everyone and every structure. Power is pervasive – it’s everywhere. It is certainly an ever-present facet of social work. The key skill that we have to shift power one way or another is communication." In this episode Stephen looks at the dirty word that is Resilience. Having spotted on Twitter that someone was outraged that their wife had been told to 'bake a cake' as this would help build resilience Stephen wanted to explore resilience and try to promote the positive aspects of resilience building and resilience in general... noting however that baking a cake results in no more than having a cake that you've baked. Resilience is dependent on two things - yes - what we do ourselves but also the environment we then have to do what we do in.
