An exploration of ideas and radical perspectives through a transdisciplinary view of the world, business, and technology.
The most common topic among Singaporeans is food. We love our food, from the daily hawker center fish soup queue to the latest grill fish queue in the malls. There is a saying if you see a queue, just queue as 9 out of 10 times it is good food. Fish happens to be one of the common ingredients of our favourite local dishes. It can be found in so many dishes, otah, fish soup, curry fish head, fish and chips, nasi lemak and so much more! But where do these fishes come from? After the recent chicken scare, are we confident that we are able to enjoy these foods in the future? Today in this episode we will like to highlight to you what are some of the benefits to eating sustainable fish and embark on the journey on how we can mimic the recent successful fintech revolution into our local sustainable fish farming scene.

Disclaimer: We cannot promise that no fish got harm in this production as we all got craving for fish during the production.
In “Shock Factor: What are you eating?”, we take a radical look at food and how our food choices impact our lives and the world around us. We examine new trends and technologies that provide us with alternatives to a more sustainable lifestyle and food secure future.
This week’s podcast tells the story of Sally, the Sad Chicken, doomed to be eaten from the day she was hatched. But Sally is not content to just accept her fate. We follow Sally, as she investigates how her fate is being determined by the decisions and food choices of humans. Average Joe loves chicken rice. He doesn’t care where chicken comes from, and just wants his favourite dish to remain cheap, easily accessible and delicious. Conscious Carly, on the other hand, cares deeply about where her food comes from. She willingly pays twice as much for humane and sustainable food options. And she is advocating for lab grown meats.
What about you? What choices will you make?

Shiok Talks is a series of shows where we talk about everything that is at the heart of the daily lives of Singaporeans. In this episode, we’ve invited Robert Tan, owner of Tan Tan Chicken Rice store and Andrew Newman from CHICK-LAB to talk about the Future of Chicken Rice. With the Russian-Ukraine war, Covid-19, and inflation pressures wreaking havoc on our food supplies, in this case chicken supply, how will our beloved Chicken Rice stall be affected? Will we see the day when plant-based alternatives replace real chicken in Chicken Rice? What are the people in agri and food tech doing to keep our Chicken Rice culture alive? As consumers ourselves how can we take a long-term view of food production and play a critical role towards a sustainable food system.

Cell cultured meat is a promising innovation that would revolutionize how we consume meat. Inside this “Real Or Not” episode, Mr Real aka Jeff, invited 4 key opinion leaders to demistify this topic, debunk health myths associated with it and lastly if the taste is starkly different from the real meat our tastebuds are accustomed to!
