The United States has an affinity for incarceration. At any given time, there are 2 Million people behind bars, making the incarceration rate the highest of any country in the WORLD.

They discuss how prison can be a revolving door for offenders without proper programs. However, applying structure, family and community involvement, and vocational services can set individuals up for success and decrease the reincarceration rate altogether.

First responders all over the United States are inundated with calls about a potential opioid overdose. Many believe that responding to these calls wastes time and services to the general population. In Portsmouth, Ohio, we have created a unique program called the Quick Response Team that deploys to every possible overdose. This team on sight reduces paramedic time on scene and dramatically increases the individual’s chance of admitting to treatment.   

Episode 2 Part 1 of Pillosphy includes special guests, Quick Response Team Leader Billie Taylor and Captain of the Portsmouth Fire Department, and Paramedic Joshua Sherman. They discuss how their teams collaborate on the scene to support the individuals in need with dignity and respect during one of their darkest moments.
