I have bittersweet news: I am (lovingly) closing down my podcast and business!
"Lovingly" - because I have LOVED working on this project, serving my career coaching clients, and meeting my listeners and followers over the last 3+ years! I am PROUD of this body of work and it will continue to exist on the internet to help more people in the future.
In this final episode, I explain the rationale behind this personal decision and how I made it. I talk about how my core values have changed, the key questions I asked myself when I made this decision, the "warning signs" that helped me understand that it was time for a change, and why I am ready to divest myself from grind & hustle culture.
Thank you for being a part of this journey! Xo, Priscilla

Are You Afraid to Ask for More Money?
You are not alone.
I chat with negotiation coach Joan Moon to explore why this fear is so widespread. We delve into how gender bias and societal expectations can make advocating for our financial worth feel uncomfortable. The conversation goes further, examining the intersection of gender and race. Women of color, in particular, face unique challenges in salary negotiations due to stereotypes and cultural barriers.
The episode highlights the need to update societal norms and acknowledges the challenges women face. But it's not all doom and gloom! We aim to empower you to confidently negotiate for your worth without the fear of being perceived negatively. So listen in and learn how to ask for what you deserve!

Let's face it - no one WANTS to work on their resume.
Not only is the resume a tedious exercise, but it's not the magic bullet that people want you to believe it is.
You just need to get your resume to "good enough" status....good enough to make it past the ATS (online application portal), good enough to make it past a recruiter, and ultimately, good enough to land you an interview.
In this episode, I'll guide you through a specific process to help you transform your resume in 3-5 hours.
Even better, I've got a free resource for you - the FREE RESUME BUNDLE that makes all of this even easier and faster. Stop spending unnecessary hours on your resume and start focusing on activities that truly make a difference in your job search.

In this episode, I'm pulling back the curtain and showing you what is holding you back in your job search when it comes to your resume. For example:
If your answer was yes to any of these questions, then you're making at least one of the Top 10 Worst Resume Mistakes that disqualify you from jobs. Tune into learn more about each one and why it hurts you in your job search.

Is the resume really as important as we think?
That's a loaded question! While the resume is undeniably crucial for securing interviews, let's unpack its actual impact on getting hired.
On this episode, I teach you the role of the resume in the job search process and why it shouldn't be the only thing on your mind. I'll explain why a resume is only important in the first step of the process, which is generating interview invitations. The episode concludes by highlighting the importance of spending the right amount of time and energy on the resume and provides a preview of the next episodes in the series.

Ever had a recruiter slide into your DM's, asking you to hop on the phone with them to discuss a potential job opportunity?
It's normal to be skeptical of these messages but let me tell you...these DM messages lead to REAL job opportunities.
Ask me how I know! One of my 2023 job offers came directly from a LinkedIn message from a recruiter! I didn't even know about the job until the recruiter reached out to me. I don't want you to miss out on these "hidden market" job opportunities, so on this episode I cover everything you need to know when a recruiter reaches out to you:

Not everyone comes to the job search in the same way.
For some of you, it's a choice. You're employed but want something better.
For others, it wasn't. Maybe you lost your job or got laid off.
Believe it or not, there are pro's and con's to each situation.
No matter what kind of job seeker situation you're in, you have your mindset obstacles cut out for you.
And it's critical that you 1) know what they are, and 2) prepare to overcome them.
Beyond the mindset challenges ahead, I also share some "job search real talk" facts that everyone needs to know before they hit the job search!
--
Has it been a MINUTE since your last interview?
Do you keep telling yourself that you just need to apply to more jobs online?
WRONG.
There are only 3 ways to generate interview invites, and applying to jobs online is the least effective strategy of them all.
These 3 strategies work for every season of life - even when there's a "recession", hiring freezes, or holiday breaks.
Learning how to generate interview invitations is a SKILL, and on this episode I teach you how to start CREATING more interviews.
--
Are you struggling to land interviews?
Or, are you getting invited to the first round - only to later bomb the interview, and feel like you're not answering their questions correctly?
If this is happening to you, you might be shooting your shot TOO HIGH.
As of November 2023, we're in an employer-led market. That means there are MORE job-seekers than there are job postings or roles available. This means that employers can choose from the BEST of the BEST when it comes to their interview slates. They're not incentivized to "take a chance" on someone who doesn't quite meet the requirements or even the "desired qualifications." This is why we're seeing overqualified people get hired for jobs right now!
If you want to start getting invited to more interviews, and start feeling more confident in your interviews, tune into today's episode and learn how to avoid this mistake.

Welcome to the Season 3 Finale!
On this episode, I share a very personal anecdote that will help you with your next career move - PROMISE! This episode alone can save you thousands of dollars.
I almost moved to Denver last year because I was unhappy with my living situation. I felt disconnected from my community, I was uncomfortable with the Texas summer heat, I felt psychologically & physically unsafe in the the state of Texas a woman of color, I felt bored and I was telling myself that I was a victim in my "still in Texas" story.
In my overly emotional state, I came up with the WRONG solution to my LIFE problem. So many people make the same mistake when it comes to career change, and I want you to avoid OVER-SOLVING for your career problem. Luckily, I realized I was making the wrong solution soon enough to course-correct and find the RIGHT solution for me.
On this episode, I explain where I went wrong, what I should have done instead, and how this can help you in your next career move decision-making. Enjoy!

Do you sometimes "freeze" during interviews or public speaking?
Do you over-use filler words like "um", "you know, or "like"?
Do you tend to end your sentences with an up-speak tone, as if you are asking a question?
If you answered yes, then you're probably a normal human being. Most of us never get any communications coaching, but working on our communication can PAY DIVIDENDS in our career. It can open doors, inspire confidence in you, and lead to your next opportunity.
On today's episode, you'll hear from keynote speaker and communications expert, Hope Timberlake, as she shares her hot tips for women and under-represented minorities as they communicate during their job search - so that we can leave our self-doubt and imposter syndrome behind and SPEAK UP, DAMMIT!

On this episode, we continue the work that we began on Episode 82 and bring your unique personal branding language to life through the top 6 personal branding questions that you need to know how to answer during your job search process.
I share a simple yet potentially LIFE-CHANGING exercise that I use with my clients to help them MASTER the answers to these questions that will pop up during the entire career change process.
Working on your communication matters because we don't live in a meritocracy where the smartest & most capable people get the best jobs. More often than not, the best communicators, relationship-builders, and influencers get the best jobs. This is why I spend so much time coaching my clients on how to communicate powerfully about their value proposition and personal branding, and I teach you how to get started on this process in this episode!

If you HATE talking about yourself at work or in interview settings, and you're still NOT satisfied with your career, this episode is for you.
Today I'm going to talk about the 2 different types of career personal branding: SHOWING and TELLING. Are you doing both, neither, or just one?
Most of us feel more comfortable "showing" and not "telling." We don't want to promote ourselves and use our voice. We want to "show" people about ourselves through our actions, results, and experiences.
Unfortunately, that's not enough because you are expecting people to connect the dots for you and/or read your mind.
It also shows up as HIDING in your career, leaving people NOT knowing about you and your unique gifts.
When you say you don't want to talk about yourself, you are actually silencing yourself.
Tune into this episode to learn more about the 2 different forms of career personal branding (showing and telling) with specific examples and how you can stop hiding in your career.

We all have brands that we love. Maybe it's Nike, Apple, or Starbucks.
We also have people whose brands we love - influencers, celebrities, and musicians. We don't even know these people, and yet we love them, pay money to see them, and trust them.
Well guess what? You ALSO have a personal brand that you emit (like body odor) every single day. And, you have a personal brand whether you know it or not. WE ALL DO! So, why don't you make sure that your personal brand is working in YOUR favor and not against you?
Tune into this episode to learn more about why you need a personal brand, and how I define it. You'll walk away with a way better understanding of the value of a brand.

Do you remember when vh1 used to have those decade nostalgia shows, "I Love the 80's" and "I Love the 90's"?
Well, I decided to do a little internet sleuthing & researching, and make my own version of "I Love the X's": Job Search Edition.
Yes, it's a little corny but I wanted to do a fun episode for y'all! I ended up learning some really interesting things like, did you know it was OK to light up a cigarette during an interview in the 70's? Sure was.
No, but seriously, on this episode, I explain how we got to the modern day job search as we know it today and how some things seem to never change - with cyclical recessions, boom economies, and competitive job markets.
I also talk about how THE internet blew up the job search proces, giving us both massive rejection heartache AND a massive opportunity - we just need to know how to use it!

Are you a people person? Do you like tech? Are you into data? Then, the Customer Success Manager role might be the perfect next career move for you.
Even though this job didn't exist 10 years ago, it's now one of the fastest growing career paths in tech (particularly in Software-as-a-Service), and it's not going anywhere. It's also one of those career paths that you can pivot into fairly easily with a strong set of transferable skills and without getting a new degree.
On today's episode, experienced CSM Erica Coleman talks about the CSM role, why it's a GREAT fit for former teachers, and the type of strengths needed to succeed in this role. We also talk about what CSM is NOT - it's not customer service and it's not a sales role.

Is procrastination killing your dreams?
Do you keep telling yourself that you "should" start working on your job search, only to end up spending hours on TikTok, Netflix or literally anything else?
Weeks go by, then months, and you're no closer to your career change goal. If this is you, it's only because of a feeling you are trying to avoid in the moment.
The problem is that while you might avoid temporary discomfort, you prolong your long-term discomfort and create even MORE costs for you down the road.
In this episode, I explain how powerful it is to understand the "Think-Feel-Act" cycle and slightly tweak your thoughts so that you actually get sh* done. I also share some simple strategies to make it more likely for you to take action.

One of the biggest mistakes that I see job-seekers make is applying to as many online job postings as possible.
This is a serious mistake, that can cost you a lot of wasted time, energy, and emotions.
I guarantee that most of those applications will never even be reviewed or seen. Some will be automatically rejected.
I explain why this is the case on this episode - and this is the first principle that you MUST understand when navigating the modern day job search.
I also tell you what you should be focusing on instead.

When clients come to me, they're ready to figure out their next career move. They want to start firing out job applications ASAP. But many times, I'll tell them to hold their horses.
We first need to understand WHY they want to make a big career move in the first place. And is it a strong enough reason to make a career change?
On this episode, I share a tool that I use with my clients to help them reflect on their current or past jobs that they so desperately want to move away from...and this tool helps them identify the strongest pain points.
That pain gives us a lot of data. It will help you get clear on WHY you want to make a career change, and even offers you clues on the type of career change you should be making.
You'll want to grab a pen, your journal, and a nice cup of your favorite drink to get the best out of this exercise.

Have you ever uttered the following words?
Sound familiar? I bet it does.
You aren’t alone if you’re struggling with finding time to make progress on your career change process.
The problem is that we often assume it's going to take SO MUCH EFFORT, and we are going to have to do 100 things to get to our ideal result.
The good news? It's just not true.
In this podcast, I share an easy strategy based on the Pareto Principle (80/20 Rule). The Pareto Principle says 80% of the results in your life comes from 20% of your efforts.
On this episode, I break down EXACTLY how to use this principle to trick your mind and take small steps that will lead to your next career move.
So, if you’ve ever avoided your job search for weeks and thought, “why do I do this to myself…?”
This is the podcast for you.

Welcome back to the Career Exploration Series that began on Episode 46, 49 and 52! On this episode, Priscilla dives into 2 critical topics: 1) Building your career portfolio, and 2) Protoyping - AKA running career experiments before committing to a path.
Your career portfolio takes stock of your strengths, transferable skills and "Greatest Hits". Prototypes are small experiments that allow you to collect valuable data to help you figure out your next career move. Both help you communicate your value and identify best-match opportunities.
Think that it's too late for you to transition into a brand new industry? Think again.
Today, we hear from Zapier recruiter Bonnie Dilber as she shares her story of how she transitioned into tech after spending 16 years in the education nonprofit world.
On this episode, Bonnie shares how she charted her path to leave education, the tactics that helped her connect with people who could refer her to jobs in tech, and how she prepared for interviews and difficult questions about her fit for the role. This is a great episode if you want to transition into tech or you're going through a rigorous job search process.
On today’s episode, guest Rupal Desai shares how she shamelessly networked her way into a corporate consulting job (at a Big 4 firm) a few years out of college without a degree in business or any private sector work experience. She leveraged the hell out of her network, and you should, too.
Many job hunters try to avoid networking because it can feel awkward, vulnerable, and uncomfortable. But, in a world where online job postings receive hundreds of applications per day, you need to differentiate yourself by building relationships with other human beings who can help you. The more willing you are to feel “awkward”, vulnerable and/or uncomfortable when it comes to networking, the more likely you are to experience success.
