In this episode of the Elevate Podcast, host Adam Harris is joined by Megan Piper, a fellow EOS implementer who specializes in working with distributed teams globally. They dive into the nuances of online work, discussing the differences between in-person and virtual collaboration. Megan shares her journey from being a high school French teacher to working in the digital sphere, including her 17-year venture providing IT solutions to humanitarian organizations. They explore the challenges and benefits of virtual teams, cultural dynamics, leadership accountability, and the impact of technology in remote settings. Megan emphasizes the importance of intentional communication and effective use of tools like AI for enhancing productivity and maintaining strong team connections. The conversation also touches on the personal freedoms and diverse perspectives that remote work offers, as well as practical tips for leading online teams effectively.

About Megan:

Megan Piper, MBA, grew up in an entrepreneurial family, experiencing the energizing dynamics of a nimble business environment. This early exposure fueled her enthusiasm for entrepreneurship, leading her to embrace a pivotal role in a founder's venture. There, she experienced the transformative power of a strong Visionary/Integrator duo, catalyzing rapid growth. As the team expanded, complexity increased, and adopting an operating system revolutionized their approach. The firm hit a $50M+ revenue milestone and executed the largest IT contract awarded by the United Nations, delivering 45000+ laptops to 900 schools across the Philippines. During her tenure as CFO/COO at Planson International, Megan played a crucial role in driving an 1800% revenue increase, transforming the company from a small U.S. firm into a successful, scalable, multinational enterprise. Megan guided the business transition to the next generation and launched her own entrepreneurial venture.

For the past 5+ years, Megan has dedicated herself to guiding organizations from chaos to cohesion. In her work with EOS (Entrepreneurial Operating System) clients, Megan collaborates with leadership teams to instill purpose, accountability, and discipline while providing tools to measure progress against meaningful metrics.

Outside of work, Megan enjoys hiking with her two dogs, spending quality time with family, and exploring international destinations.

In this week's episode I am talking about something we have been reading about a lot of late. The concept of quiet quitting. Is this a new concept or is the phrase irrelevant to the discussion that is truly needed?

I discuss:

  • why only 15% of the workforce are actively engaged
  • is quiet quitting actually what is happening in our work force?
  • what does engagement mean for employees and employers
  • whose responsibility is it to ensure that employees are engaged and happy
  • is there clarity within your organisation

I would love to hear your feedback about quiet quitting and if it is impacting you or your organisation.

In this week's episode I talk to coach and EOS® Implementer Roger Vertannes. Roger discusses his approach to working with over 400 businesses and some key messages that he has gained from this vast experience. Key to this episode is Roger's explanation of the importance of clarity for your business. We talk about the difference between working in and on your business and the power that a clarity break can have. The topics of trust, speaking our truth and the importance of space and time for business owners are discussed and I know that this episode will have an impact for you.

About Roger:

Roger Vertannes is the Founder of Leadership Counts and is a leading Certified EOS® Implementer. EOS®, the Entrepreneurial Operating System is a complete set of simple concepts and practical tools

that has helped thousands of entrepreneurs get what they want from their businesses.

Born in London, the youngest of 10 children, Roger is a dedicated family man, husband, and father of two. He loves to share his knowledge, expertise and business journey to help entrepreneurs to clarify, simplify and achieve their vision.

From age 24, he successfully managed the growth of his family-owned freight forwarding company, then a soul-searching moment led him to use his passion for sport and health to co-found his UK sports enterprise. He built and sold the company in 2006 to achieve his dream of settling in Australia.

Roger’s journey includes helping Australian business owners achieve their succession plan. As a respected and licensed business broker, Roger discovered too many business owners were failing to maximise the value of their enterprise. Roger found this gap astonishing, and the statistics ignited his obsession to help entrepreneurs to get what they want.

With his expertise in leadership, management and building high performing teams, Roger has helped business owners of over 400 companies to get the results they want.

This week's episode is in response to Prince Harry's comments that employers should be giving employees time for themselves to do the 'inner work' during the work day. I've been thinking about what self care might look like for organisations and for individuals and whose responsibility it is to ensure it takes place.

I cover the following:

  • What does self care mean to you?
  • When is the right time or place you have to replenish yourself?
  • What do you need to make you the best version of you?
  • As a manager and leader what is within your remit to give to others.
  • How as leaders can we model behaviour that shows self care
  • Different flexible working models moving forward to support this

I'd love to hear your thoughts about self care in general but more specifically how do you ensure that as a leader you look after yourself and those who work for you. Is it even appropriate for all of this to happen in the working day? I can't wait to hear from you.

About Adam:

I work with CEO’s, managing directors, their boards and leadership teams as well as aspiring leaders who want to climb the corporate ladder. I help them achieve greater results for their teams, their businesses and themselves. How? By taking them from where they are to where they want to get to. I do that not by answering their questions, but by questioning their questions. By being Frank and Fearless. I ask tough questions and encourage my clients to say what they really think. I create space to enable them to stop, pause and reflect. Out of that space comes clarity and real opportunities for growth. I help my clients do incredible things. I help them understand that good and bad things happen. Life goes on regardless. What matters is your perspective and how you react to the shit that happens to you. What you get out of life depends on how you navigate your way through it.

In today's episode I talk to the phenomenal Dr Lynda Ulrich. Dr Lynda is a dentist turned Global Positive Media Mogul as coined by others. Dr Lynda and I talk about the value of focussing on relationships, legacy, trust and changing the negative dialogue of our times. Dr Lynda will help you to think about how the media impacts us today and steps you can take to curate a more positive social media feed and outlook.

About Dr Lynda Ulrich:

Dr. Lynda is the ultimate kind of connector: she sees possibility everywhere and is an expert in fitting seemingly stray parts together; instincts sharpened by a life as a global traveler, an exceptional artist, and early adopter of technology.

She is the founder of Ever Widening Circles (EWC), a Global Positive Media Company that began, in 2014, publishing thousands of articles and links about remarkable insights and innovation going uncelebrated.

That simple idea has grown into a collection of media platforms that offer us all a new worldview, and most importantly, an opportunity to embrace a role as a leader in opening a new era for us all.

With a bestselling book, a beautiful app, a podcast, an Education Website, TEDx Talk and the recently launched Conspiracy of Goodness Network, she is being interviewed by news media markets that reach millions of people around the world.

Upon meeting Dr. Lynda, you will understand the scope and gravity of what she’s found in her journey to celebrate insight and innovation. Experience tells her that there is an enormous wave of goodness and progress well underway in the world that few in business and industry are stepping up to champion. In fact, the wave is so well hidden by the chaos and negative media that she’s calling that global wave The Conspiracy of Goodness.

She devoted her professional life to finding inspiring ways to keep the humanity in healthcare. And now she is speaking to thought leaders around the world every week who are making the world a better place in astonishing ways. Her gift is in synthesizing their genius into narratives, ideas, and connections that can bring us all together.

In this first episode of the Frank and Fearless Leadership podcast I am delighted to introduce to you one of my associate coaches and friend, Kelly Feehan. This is an incredibly honest episode where Kelly talks about her doubts around coaching, our rocky start to our coaching relationship and her emergence as a vital member of her mastermind group following some tough self exploration. This episode is for anyone who wants to understand more deeply what coaching and masterminds can do for you even if you are reluctant.

About Kelly Feehan:

Kelly has worked exclusively in the public and not for profit sectors which has included everything from frontline case work to Senior Leadership roles. The common factor in all of her roles has been empowering people to move forward from where they are now to where they want to be. This can be work place or employment goals, to much bigger questions around purpose and satisfaction. She is particularly motivated by working with individuals who are looking at changing direction or those who have big aspirations for their lives! As a coach Kelly specialises particularly in facilitating mastermind groups. She has personal experience of being part of mastermind groups over the years to develop her own senior leadership positions and brings all this experience across to merge it with her coaching experience.
