Join your friends/hosts Katie and Kate for a film podcast that brings us back to the days of curling up on the couch with our friends for a night of cinema, gossip and chatter -- but with a side of grown-up perspective, behind-the-scenes stories and intersectional feminist commentary.
"How do they walk in those things? It's almost mechanical -- like Jell-o on springs."
This week Katie sees a new movie and Kate gets overly giddy while quoting from the 1959 Billy Wilder classic "Some Like It Hot," starring Marilyn Monroe, Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis. Hear your hosts discuss the progressive gender politics, funniest scenes and character arcs of this great film, and learn about the real-life drag superstar who helped make it a reality. Also, did you know that without Marilyn Monroe, Ella Fitzgerald might never have hit the mainstream? All this and more in this episode that'll make you go..."yeah, real hot!"

What if you were stuck in the same day over and over again, what would you do? That's what we're exploring in today's episode as we discuss the 1993 philosophical comedy, Groundhog Day. It's a silly movie, with a simple "stuck in time loop" plot, and yet it is incredibly thoughtful and poignant.
Plus, Katie has some interesting news about a boy band featured in one of our previously covered movies, the girls discuss being stuck in ruts, and also why are vampires so rich? You also won't want to miss a devil-ish theory about this well loved movie.
Come hang out with us between episodes!

Kate, our resident busy bee, is calling in on location to discuss with Katie the teen movie????? Cruel Intentions! Seriously, how are these characters in high school, what actual age are they, does anyone really know?
Over the years, this film has earned cult classic status, though most of it hasn't aged well. Still, there are some surprisingly well done examinations of sexuality and that whole virgin/whore complex that hopefully society is finally letting go of.

Hosts Kate and Katie are joined by actress and long-time friend of the pod Angela Aiello to discuss the quintessential holiday romcom, 2003's "Love, Actually."
Walk through every character pairing of this British ensemble classic with the three of them as they break down which storylines still make us swoon, which ones get worse with age, and which ones are so ridiculously fantastical that you just have to suspend your disbelief ("like when watching 'Lord of the Rings.'"). Warning: No Alan Rickman slander will be found here, but there's a good chunk of time talking about the film's sweater game and how Colin Frissel might plan his state-side trip using Bumble in 2023.

It's time for another holiday film discush! Hosts Katie and Kate dive into Beyonce's "Renaissance" documentary before taking you back to 2006 when house swapping was a thing, long tank tops were a fashion must-have, and John Krasinski and Kathryn Hahn were unknown enough to play side characters in a single scene.
That's right, we're talking about "The Holiday," directed by Queen of the Cinematic Kitchen Nancy Myers and staring Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz. Stick around to hear Kate recite facts about Eli Wallach's career, Katie defend Jack Black as an ideal romcom leading man, and decide whether "The Holiday" is really a "holiday" film.

Spoilers abound in this episode about the summer's hottest pink movie, "Barbie." Kate and Katie had a hard time keeping this one down to about an hour, folks -- there's lots to say about Greta Gerwig's billion-dollar haul about a Mattel icon and the pitfalls of patriarchy, white feminism and cellulite-phobia.
Kate and Katie dive into some of the nuances of the film while recounting their own Barbie play habits. Hold on to your butts! This week Kate & Katie are joined by special guest Nick Wiersum, Paleontologist & Curator of Natural Science at the Kenosha Public Museum in Kenosha, WI. Obviously, we are talking about the most DINO-myte movie of the 90's, Jurassic Park!
As your hosts chat about the movie, Nick offers some insight into what the movie gets scientifically right and what might have been exaggerated and also discusses how Jurassic Park informs a lot of what folks THINK they know about dinosaurs.
But it's not all educational, there are also tangents on which dinosaur is horniest, which dinosaur people are horniest for, and we even try to pitch a new Chuck Tingle book. Chuck is a fan of the SPCC, right?

Who doesn't love a good Cinderella story? This week on the pod, Kate has finally watched the late 90s Drew Barrymore come back film, Ever After. Katie is a long time lover of the movie and has some embarrassing stories to share about just how obsessed she was with this film as a twelve year old. Even though the movie may seem like just a cheesy fairytale we've all heard before, this ain't no Disney version. The gals explore the themes of feminism, anti-capitalism, socialism, all presented within this magical tale of mistaken identity and love.

In this episode Katie & Kate go deep - no pun intended - talking about the possibilities of a Titanic heaven & a Titanic hell, whether or not the uber rich dudes nowadays would actually die if the sinking happened today, and we also touch back on the question of "was the Titanic sinking an inside job?" Tune in for a deep-sea dive into the romantic side of the film, from class divides and the real-life missing art that was on board, to whether Rose ends up in Titanic Heaven in the final scene and, yes, if Jack could have fit on the door. (Pss! Stick around for the whole episode for an ear-splitting treat in the outro.)
Just as the film was split across two VHS tapes, we're making this a two-parter: Come back next week for the second part, where Kate gushes about how practical effects make "Titanic" a disaster film that holds up 25 years later, and Katie goes even deeper into the conspiracy theories that the sinking of the ship was an inside job.

After the death of Queen Elizabeth the II and an end to her 73-year reign, Kate and Katie went a little royal with this week's episode and discussed 2001's "The Princess Diaries." Listen in as they dissect the deeper meanings of the movie, dish on the actors who got their start in it (Anne Hathaway, we love you, girl!), and lust over Mia Thermopolous' San Francisco firehouse loft. They also cover Katie's thoughts on the new "Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" series -- which has nothing to do with Neil Gaiman -- and provide two public service announcements: Harry Styles did NOT spit on Chris Pine at the Venice screening of "Don't Worry Darling," and Heather Matarazzo the actor is NOT related to Gaten Matarazzo from "Stranger Things."

Picture it, cinemas, 2007: "Rush Hour 3" has just released, "Superbad" is just a week away, and "The Simpsons Movie" and "Bourne Ultimatum" drawing viewers in during their third and second weeks playing. A little-noticed fantasy movie based on a Neil Gaiman novel called "Stardust" gets lost in the summer movie shuffle -- but hasn't lost its luster to the small but passionate fans who still watch it today. Katie and Kate discuss the film's comfort-movie status, draw parallels between Robert De Niro's Captain Shakespeare and "Our Flag Means Death," giggle at babies Charlie Cox and Henry Cavill, and lose the plot completely in favor of other topics like Lady Gaga's Chromatica Ball, censored viewings of "The Tudors," and whether George RR Martin will ever write those last two books (spoiler: he won't, no matter how much Kate challenges him).
And no, this episode is not about the 2020 David Bowie biopic that wasn't allowed to include any David Bowie music.

We were so young and hopeful back then...Enjoy!
