Here’s what to do when everything feels overwhelming as an ADHD adult. ADHD can cause you to feel decision paralysis or analysis paralysis. Sometimes we become so overwhelmed with the thoughts in our brain that we literally can’t move on. The executive dysfunction can take over and make it difficult to prioritize what’s important and ignore what’s not. This is the most helpful brain dump technique I’ve used and I hope it helps you too!

Exercise is one of the most helpful (and totally free) way to help your squirrelly brain! Adhd brains need help with dopamine, exercise increases dopamine. Exercise also helps increase BDNF which can help with memory and learning. Neuroplasticity plays a huge role in building new habits, exercises increases neuroplasticity. There can be a lot of reasons why it’s hard for adhd moms to find time to exercise so I also share how I’m prioritizing it during this season. Wanna talk more? The “why” tends to be super important to ADHDers. If you have a neurodivergent brain, it’s probably helpful for you to be in tune with what’s important to you and what the benefits are. Keep asking yourself why until you get down to the main motivation. Creating routines can be helpful but only if you’re actually in tune with what you want and need.

Changing habits can be completely daunting, especially when you have executive dysfunction. Executive functioning is pretty vital for creating sustainable change because it encompasses organization, task initiation, planning and prioritizing, self-monitoring, emotional control, and more. It’s easy to get caught up in perfectionism and then avoid the task altogether and then get into a shame cycle about the procrastination. I’m trying to help you move out of that cycle! Let’s focus on making one tiny change at a time and then celebrating that accomplishment for what it is!

Today I’m sharing about 3 reasons I “should” have known it was ADHD sooner. Many women with ADHD will end up misdiagnosed (or partially diagnosed) with anxiety or depression before they get diagnosed with ADHD. These are just a few examples of unofficial symptoms of ADHD in women and girls. This isn’t meant to diagnose anyone and this is just my own experience! :)Want 1:1 support? In this episode I'm sharing some steps I walk through to figure out what's actually necessary so I can prioritize appropriately. When you have ADHD this can be really challenging because pretty much everything important feels equally important. Why is prioritizing important? Without it, we're going to just follow wherever our squirrelly little heart wants to go next.

PMDD and autism have a very high correlation, but what about PMDD and other neurodiversities? Getinflow.io stated in an article, “PMDD affects ADHDers more severely because estrogen influences the same receptors in the brain that release chemicals affected by ADHD: dopamine, serotonin, and norepinephrine.”You can check out the full article here:https://www.getinflow.io/post/pmdd-estrogen-dopamine-adhd-affected-by-severe-pmsThere’s obviously a lotttttt left here to uncover and I plan on talking about PMDD more and hopefully finding some experts to bring on. People with ADHD experience discrimination in the workplace every day, much of it isn’t intentional but due to a lack of understanding. Because ADHDers may have difficulty with time management, due dates, daily mundane tasks, etc. they can be seen as “not meeting the job requirements” or “unprofessional” even when excelling in other (less measurable) areas.Today Justin Gillespie LMSW-Clinical joins Do I Have ADHD? to discuss adhd discrimination. Does adhd cause sensory overload? I’m not sure but I do have a theory. Because our adhd brain struggles to focus on one thing, we find ourselves paying attention to a lot of things which can become overwhelming. If you're also an adhd mom, I know you probably feel pretty overwhelmed by all the home management we're "expected" to keep up with. Even though boring, daily tasks can literally feel like torture. Using some simple meal prep ideas can help take at least one thing off of your full plate.
And switching to glass tupperware can get you out of the cycle of having a towering cabinet of plastic falling every time you try to find a dish.

I kept always looking for the “next” organization strategy or system. But those are often created by people who are a little more naturally organized, so they never worked for me. I learned how to make accommodations for neurodivergent kids when I was a special education teacher. Over the years I started looking at everything in my life as modifiable and it’s helped me find systems for neurodiverse brains that actually work. My husband and I’ve been walking through his cervical spine injury the last 4 years. It’s something I’ve referenced frequently in other episodes and on my social media. It felt like it needed it’s own episode with some more of the details. This is still the “short version” though, believe it or not.
Email me if you want to work together on any of these areas!admin@doihaveadhdpodcast.comCheck out the breathing video on Instagram @createdbycheskaOur breathing impacts every aspect of our brain and body. The breath anchors our nervous system. Diaphragmatic breathing is incredibly powerful for reducing anxiety. Belly breathing also helps our blood flow move properly which is something an adhd brain struggles with. Our eating habits impact our mental health so intensely. Our gut microbiome is influencing how we feel and it directly communicates to our brain. If our diet is full of inflammatory or processed foods we’re not going to feel our best. If we’re skipping meals our blood sugar is all over the place and we’re running on cortisol which is going to make anxious feelings worse and it’s going to make it nearly impossible to focus. This can also make you addicted to cortisol (the stress hormone).Sleep is the basis of everything. Most bodies, especially females, function best with 7-9 hours of sleep. Adding more sleep during your luteal and menstrual phrase is also very important. One night of not optimal sleep impacts our decisions the next day and causes us to make more impulsive decisions, especially regarding junk food.

In this episode we’re talking about how to start a daily practice to create new neural pathways in the brain and create a more positive outlook on life. This idea came from Dr. Daniel Amen’s work from Your Brain Is Always Listening
In this episode we’re discussing two more boundaries to set in order to protect your mental health.
Get to know yourself. Learn what and who is most important to you. Make every decision through that point of view. That’s the first step to creating boundaries in my opinion.
Parenting can be hard. If you or your child has adhd or a different neurodiversity it can be that much more challenging. I love using collaborative problem solving because it feels good for everyone involved and it teaches many important life skills like perspective taking, problem solving, and positive communication.

About Dani Perrecone Alomoto
Choo choo! All aboard the “Hot Mess Express”!
Dani’s life was like a runaway train. Every new experience that was stressful or demanding derailed her. She experienced high anxiety, the butterflies in your tummy, nail biting, hair twirling kind of anxiety. She had distorted fears. When she told someone what she was afraid of, they looked at her in disbelief. She was always late to everything, got her left and right mixed up and couldn’t read an analog clock. Someone driving too slow or cutting her off was a personal attack, so naturally she felt she had to retaliate. If you asked her if she wanted a salad, she internalized the question as an insult, how dare they call her fat!…
About Paloma Garcia Cruz Paloma García is a founding brain coach at In The Cortex. That’s right: a brain coach. The human brain can change at any point in life, and Paloma can show you how!
A bored-with-school kid turned bored-with-life teen turned flaky, inconsistent young adult, Paloma was inspired by her younger brother who struggled for most of his childhood and adolescence before reorganizing his brain. After he became the adultiest adult you’ve ever met (in a good way), her curiosity was piqued, and she knew this called for an investigation…

Ever have a day where you did stuff allllllll day and yet at the end you still don’t feel like it was enough? Yeah. Me too. Here’s a practical way to combat that lie.
Are the people in your circle bringing positivity or negativity?
If you’re healing, make sure the “healers” in your life have a healing energy. Are they helping or not helping?
Whether it’s friends, therapists, chiropractors, PT, OT, doctors, massage therapists, family, a church group, you don’t have to stay around them. You don’t have to let them into your life.
This is an energetic boundary and it’s important for everyone, especially for people with ADHD because our energy already ebbs and flows so greatly most days.

Today’s guest is Dr. Chelsea Karwath, owner of Abide Functional Wellness.
About Chelsea: I am a small town Midwest girl, born and raised in Troy, Missouri. My passion for health and wellness began as a teen, when I decided to dig for the root cause of my lifelong digestive issues. This time in my life caused me to develop a passion for health and wellness rooted in a holistic view of the body. I continued learning about natural physiology and its functioning the way God intended. I became determined to live a cleaner lifestyle, which led me to start making and selling my own clean beauty and personal products in high school. My desire to be a part of the holistic healthcare solution led me to pursue Chiropractic as a career. Throughout my time pursuing my doctorate and extracurricular training in acupuncture and functional medicine, I, like so many women feeling the pressure of high achievements, found myself suffering from chronic stress, adrenal insufficiency, hormone imbalance, hypothyroidism, and fatigue. I finished my academic career in, what I felt was a completely different body than what I began with, and this led me to truly focus in on my passion to help other women recover from burn out and honor their feminine physiology. I attended Williams Baptist University in Walnut Ridge, AR, before transferring to Logan University to complete both my Bachelor of Science degree in Life Sciences, and my Doctorate in Chiropractic. During my time at Logan University, I completed multiple additional hours of education outside of my Doctoral course work. I have completed training in Functional Medicine, Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine, Sacro-Occipital Technique, Pregnancy & Pediatric Chiropractic Care, Webster Technique, and the McKenzie Technique for the Lumbar Spine. I opened my dream practice, Abide Functional Wellness, in June of 2022, where I serve clients in-person in Shawnee, KS, inside Your Wellness Connection, and also virtually. My incredibly supportive husband Graham, a college wrestling coach, and I currently live in Leawood, KS with our Dane-Shepherd mix, Gus, and enjoy traveling and visiting the amazing coffee shops and restaurant patios in the Kansas City area when it’s not wrestling season!

Hey you! I’m sharing some things I love about my ADHD brain and I hope it resonates with you and reminds you of some of the great things your brain does!
In this episode I’m sharing five holistic strategies that are really helping my ADHD right now. You can always find me on ig at www.instagram.com/createdbycheska
In this episode you’ll find practical strategies for keeping up with the house when it feels like everything around you is crumbling. KC Davis is an amazing human that wrote the book How To Keep House While Drowning. This book is perfect for anyone with ADHD. The chapters are short and tangible. The strategies work for a neurodiverse brain. Some of the main takeaways are shifting from chores to care tasks; realizing that care tasks are morally neutral; and making your space a functional home that serves you. Just because your space is a mess, doesn’t mean you’re failing. You are enough. You are worthy of a space that serves you.

This week I’m sharing the story of how I became diagnosed with ADHD as an adult. ADHD in women looks much different than ADHD in a hyperactive young boy so sometimes moms are shocked to hear that ADHD might be the actual root of their anxiety or depression. Most women are misdiagnosed before getting an ADHD diagnosis.
I used to run around on stress hormones, constantly late to everything. I couldn’t manage any schedules and I constantly forgot stuff. While I’m still far from figuring all of this out, I have come a long way.
My main mission in sharing my story is to connect with you through it. My hope and prayer is that at the very least, this story will make you feel seen. Feeling like your brain is broken is isolating and depressing. I want you to know you’re not alone. There are tons of things we can do to help you learn to work with your neurodivergent brain and also heal some of the symptoms you’re dealing with.

Hey friend. Do you have adhd? Maybe, maybe not. It really doesn’t matter, because either way, you’re so welcome here. Whether it’s you, or someone you live with, that has the squirrelly-brain, I’m here to help. On this show we’ll be sharing perspective shifts and hacks and systems and routines that all work for the people of all ages with neurodivergent brains. I spent the last (almost) decade working with students as a special education teacher and navigating my own adhd. Whether you want someone to hold space for you or you want the tactile, tangible strategies, you’re in the right place. I’m going to help you learn to let it be easy, work with your unique strengths, and move from scattered to simplified. And we’re doing it all with a positive perspective, self-compassion, and a whole lotta God’s grace. Let’s do this!
