After explaining to the Galatians that righteousness was by faith and not by circumcision, the true sons of Abraham were believers and not physically circumcised people, now Paul explains that justification and sanctification were in accordance to faith in the promise of the Seed and not in the Law of Moses. How much do you think about the significance of the resurrection? How much would you say the fact that Jesus Christ is alive impacts how you choose to live your life day by day? If you’re like me you spend more time thinking about the death of Christ, the work atonement more than the victory and reward of atonement in the resurrection. We would do well to meditate more deeply, often and practically on not only the death but especially on his resurrection. Suspicion causes us to keep our eye on the wrong person. Rather than trusting in the sovereign God, the suspicious person trusts in himself for his own defense. The suspicious person ultimately distrusts God. Peter instructs believers to be sound in their judgment, with a sober spirit, driving them to pray and love fervently. As the believer matures in Christ-like love, he is better equipped and disposed to forgive a multitude of sins. We are called to be joyfully hospitable. Every believer is granted at least one spiritual gift. Gifts are to be stewarded faithfully for the benefit of the church and ultimately for the glory of the Father and the Son. On the heals of resolving a big conflict impacting many, Paul and Barnabas have a conflict of there own as they seek to tend to the flock of new believers. Do they give John Mark a second chance or stay the course and not risk it? It is a debate over empathy or efficiency.
With the Gentile conversions come great debate. We are now under the New Covenant, so how does that look for both Jews and Gentiles?
