We are the podcast version of Intersection Magazine. The magazine that talks about technology related solutions to everyday challenges. The magazine is split into three parts the first is what we call On The Scale where we compare two issue, personalities, products, the second is what we call Under The Scope where we take a deep dive into one subject and the third is called Search For Direction which has evolved into an interview with prominent personalities in the space.
So here is what we are cooking for this month. A few years ago i was drawn into the world of Ted Talks. I think it was at Hive Colab where one of the speakers mentioned them. Then one thing led to another and i found an interesting piece by Glen Greenwald. This is a presentation of his talk (in from of notes) with basic section summaries created by us (me). Many ideas to talk about surveillance, the role of the fourth estate, whistle blowing, secrecy, national sovereignty, espionage and control to name just a few. The second piece is related to the first and is a conversation shared by an American Statistician Rishad Tobacowala covering a number of areas including Data Analysis. I recommend that you read this piece and maybe even subscribe to his substack just for the wealth of knowledge and experience that he shares. In addition to that please listen to an episode with Gofaone Modise in which he featured talking about trends in our world related to how we deal with and interpret data. Our featured piece with Founder’s Lounge talks about exit strategies of a different kind! When is a good time to leave a board position? We also talk about some of the tools we have interacted with as an extension of podcasts we listen to. Mainly Slack and Discord and a host of others as presented by a competitor in this case virola.
This months I have chosen to write about a question that was raised in a 700 plus strong group of which I have membership and to which I am playing a small part in its steering. The person asked about the relevance of Intellectual Property for people in Technology. The second part is an attempt to differentiate between two forms of mining as a means of deciding if one is a distraction or if both should be pursued especially in developing (even this is a loaded term) countries. The third is a collaboration piece which we often share from Founders Freedom and Kenyan Organization that is in the business development and advisory space. My movie or series of choice is from Netflix. It is a further exploration of the subject of Intellectual Property with special attention to software. The series Billion Dollar Code is what I recommend and review for nuggets that are shared and that present quite a number of valuable lessons.
In Kenyan slang it was called Petho or Pice. It was a belief that some tasks or jobs were more prestigious and that others were slightly demeaning. Some of these attitudes can be hindrances to your progression in the world of business. We talk about the need to focus and the differences that exist between doing the grit of trade and the challenges of the same in the media spotlight. Maybe this is the curse of our age. The fact that we can hardly get time alone to build in private without some prying eyes coming in to see what we are up to. This is a continuation in our exploration of short form content although we do plan to be back with our thought provoking interviews. Here is one of the most important conversations that i have had to date. Steven Tio Kauma an Organization Transformation Specialist talks about his life and education and some of the major influences that are determining what he is doing now. He shares some insights into the world of Angel Investing and Venture Capital. He talks about important ideas that he learned from his father in the troublesome early days of the HIV/ AIDS scourge in Uganda. We also lets us into his life as an avid reader with two major books that he is reading and why. Amongst other things i was curious to find out how someone in media can transition into the world of Angel Investing and Steven in this regard did not dissapoint.
Ever wondered who isresponsible for the costs and speed of the Internet in Uganda? Or what types ofsystemsare in place in case there are outages? Find out in this episode in which we pick up where we left off over a year ago when we about Carrier Neutral Data Centers (in our podcast with Icolo in Kenya). We cover that and a lot more about the advantagesthat exist in hosting locally as well as costwise. We also char with Kyle Spencer about his time at ICTAU and an upcoming event taking place in Kinsasha that will benefit awide variety of users and service providers.
This is the first time that we have created a Video podcast episode and started a conversation through email and boy have those emails been coming! This time we have a talk with Tom Paladino who has some interesting ideas about the applications of scalar light as a source of healing primarily through the use of photographs. He shares about the science and the different methods through which he suggests that this healing can take place. We delve into the use of Eastern Medicine (China and India) and the implications of these types of cures and connections with Scalar light. For the Chinese it is a belief in Meridians while for the Indians it is a subscription to Chakras. He helps explain the difference between waves and frequencies as well as shed some light (pun intended) on terms that have become common such as auras and energies that many these days speak of. While i try to adhere to the Christian Faith, i find some of these ideas interesting and worth sharing (God is often described as light ;) ). We hope you enjoy this conversation and perhaps even get into a little more research on your own.
Why do some people prefer to remain anonymous with their giving? Should you be careful when you are receiving gifts? We talk about some of the complexities that are at the heart of many of our cultures where giving is conditional and even if people do not expressly state it, they expect something in return…later even if that means after a life time. We share some ideas about thankfulness and wholeness. And for those who are students of scripture some commentary about what we can learn from the wisdom of Solomon.
Are you troubled with people who seem to look and not buy? Depending on the geography in which you are dealing, with all things considered, this is normal. It could even be a cycle you should get used to. Most people are in the process of growth and development. If you wait long enough they will be back. We share some of these and other ideas about how we think you should deal with this issue.
You have been working on a website for a while now and now you have been asked to handover to a new host or designer. What do you do? How do you handle the same if you are on the receiving end of the same challenge? While this episode is talking about transitions in general, we also tackle more about the specifics of web development and some of the different channels by which you can generate revenue. We also share some insights into the importance of associations and collaboration between skilled groups.
Here is my understading of the coffee industry as i have interacted with it. We share some important players in the Industry such as Andrew Rugasira of Good Africa Coffee, Jolly and Henry Ngabirano of Cafe Pap, 1000 Cups on Buganda Rd. and Ban Cafe Opposite Bank Of Uganda (formerly located). We talk about the conversation that arose about Trade not Aid and the challenges that the sector has faced in the past as well as some of those in the present. The role of story telling in business development and expansion. I talk about how the structure of British Council’s Education Center was pivotal in my pursuit of Business Spaces.
There are certain no go areas in business. This might just be one of them. Most enterprises avoid the temptation of talking a little too much about politics and governance. But it is hard to ignore some of the obvious challenges that those we deal with or hope to create solutions for are facing. For example what type of impact can we claim to have if we are not solving important issues like security and poverty especially when some of these are intimately connected with bad governance? This is some of what we talk about with special reference to Kenya, Uganda and Nigeria. We talk in brief about why some leaders micromanage as well as why at least in some geographies we are stuck in an unfortunate loop.
This is one of the most interesting conversations we have had. While our focus has been on technology and innovation, here we deal with these subjects a little more. Mr. Paladino is buidling on the work of scientists like Nikola Tesla who clearly was way ahead of his time. In this discussion he talks about the potential that exists in harnessing the power of scalar light. We also talk about some perspectives from Eastern Medicine and Healing Practices. If you have spent any amount of time on social media you have come across some talk about Frequencies and auras. We talk about this too. His approach is interesting in that it is none invasive (focusing on the use of photographic images to restore health). Tom theorized that all energy in the universe initiates as Scalar light and that the Sun and the stars are the points of origin, or “the storehouses,” for Scalar Light. Join us in this discussion.
Here is a follow up to a conversation we had last year with the Celo Kenya Ambassadors. Back then we were interested in how participants in Web3 can make inroads in their coutries and regions and how the Kenyan team was doing this. This time we host a leading contributor to the Blockchain Cryptocurrency Ecosystem in the country, region and continent. We talk about his time and work in the Celo Organization as Uganda lead as well as his contribution to the health of the local ecosystem. We cover important subjects such as the Blockchain Association of Uganda, Sector and Industry Specific Events, GTM (go to market) strategies and the bigger question of Financial Technologies and where Cryptocurrency fits in all of this.
Here is a review of a series that aired on Netflix a few years ago about the Patent Infringement Case between Google and Terra Vision. There is quite a lot of information on the Internet that is written about this show regarding the content and accuracy of the story. Netflix went to great lengths to change some names and also was rather restricted by fear of Litigation from Google. At the heart of this story there are a few items that stand out. The importance of lawyers, the difficulty that arises in protecting software (code), the need to manage how small companies deal with larger corporations, the difference between invention and innovation, the link between art and technology, the value of waiting (for time and technology to catch up with your ideas) and the link between creators and Capital.
We are constantly making decisions and judgements. In this conversation, we explore the historical (biblical) importance of outstanding leadership and the failures that can emerge in its absence. We look at one approach that was used in those days to deal with this gap-the use of Judges. In some democracies, we see similar relationships between the Executive, Judicial and Legislative Branches of Government and how a balance and effective use of these can help during moments of crisis. Closer home though we challenge subscribers to embrace their individual responsibility to make judgments of their own in a time when we are bombarded with so much information.
This is the second piece where we discuss another phrase that is used frequently but that was punctuated in an unfortunate situation. I have deliberately left out the name of some of the characters mentioned in this piece. Maybe with a little research you will be able to find out who I was talking about especially if you are not in this country. In the focus on Technology and Innovation, we think that there is room for discussion about many subjects including Taxation, Business Registration, Financial Services and more.
This is the first of a group of podcasts where we will be exploring phrases that help shed insight into the psyche of the people in your community or nation. We focus on Uganda but I am certain subscribers have plenty to pick from. We make use of the Ganda language but with no claim of particular expertise. We hope you can share some terms in your community or country and what lessons you have learned from these or how these reflect the state of your nation. What does this have to do with technology and innovation? Listen to find out but also create solutions that are designed for real transformation.

In this episode we are interested in how to get access to people of certain faiths especially for those who are interested in business. I have had quite a few people ask me about how to get into podcasting. So instead of repeating this information on whatsapp to the different individuals, i have put this together. Even if some podcasts are really more like conversations or two way radio, there are others that actually put together real content. We guide on structure and content at least as far as we see it. We do not go into length around bigger questions about team selection, boards and other ideas. What we do is shed light on the current day and the opportunities that exist with Social Media.
We share some of the stats and highlights from 2023. These are useful in determining what strategies we will employ to tackle the year ahead. We also have 2022 and 2023 reviewed for what we published in the magazine. What can you learn from the data that is available in your platform of choice? How can you be more effective when creating content and how do you achieve the most with what you create?
