In this episode of The End of Innocence, we're not going to decide whether James Files was the assassin. Instead, we're going to do what every good investigator should do—we're going to examine the evidence.
We'll compare Files' first prison interview from the early 1990s with his extensive 2003 prison interview. Did his story change over those ten years? Did he contradict himself? Or did the core of his account remain remarkably consistent?
We'll examine what stayed the same, what expanded, what—if anything—changed, and what those differences might tell us about the credibility of his extraordinary claims.
Because consistency alone doesn't prove someone is telling the truth—but inconsistency can certainly raise questions.
So join me as we take a careful, objective look at one of the most controversial confessions in JFK assassination history.

This episode revisits the confession that keeps popping back up, tracing how a Houston investigator, Joe West, reportedly tracked down an Illinois inmate and recorded an interview presented as unedited, then laying out Files’ core story about being in Dealey Plaza, the position he says he chose by the knoll, and the wider cast he alleged was involved, including mob figures and shadowy intelligence-linked connections; we also cover his most specific details about supposed planning and his notorious claim about leaving a bitten casing, before weighing why many researchers and the FBI reject the confession and why some still argue it belongs in the JFK debate about November 22, 1963.
In our series that we are calling, if LHO didn’t kill John F. Kennedy, then who did. The last couple of episodes we started looking at the claims of James Files, also known as James Sutton. In 1963 Files says he was recruited by Nicoletti to take part in the killing of John F. Kennedy. Nicoletti claimed that the assassination was being organized by Sam Giancana, Johnny Roselli and David Atlee Phillips. Files claims that Lee Harvey Oswald was involved in the plot and speculated that his role was to plant the Mannlicher Rifle and shells in the Texas Book Depository.

Today on the End of Innocence, we step inside the Texas theater and examine eyewitness accounts from that fateful afternoon. What time did Oswald arrive at the theatre? Where did he sit, on the first floor or in the balcony? Did he speak to anyone while in the theatre? Was there a possible second Oswald spotted in the theatre at the same time? How many arrests were made that day in the theatre? And was Jack Ruby—infamous in his own right—spotted there too?
In this week's episode we look at the question, if Lee Harvey Oswald didn't kill Officer JD Tippit, then who did?
The murder of Dallas police officer J.D. Tippit is often cited as proof of Lee Harvey Oswald’s guilt in the JFK assassination. But a closer look at the timeline raises serious doubts. The timeline is not a trivial detail—it’s central to Oswald’s guilt or innocence. If Tippit was shot at 1:06, Oswald couldn’t have done it. To believe he did, you must dismiss multiple eyewitnesses and rely on a timeline that’s not plausible.
In this week’s episode we look at another disputed area in this case and that is the discovery of the light gray zip up jacket that supposedly belonged to Oswald and was worn by him at the time of the Tippit shooting. Another mystery in this case that we will look at today has to do with Oswald’s wallets. One found at the Tippit scene and one found on him after his arrest. Also, witness to the JD Tippit shooting, Helen Markham told the police that Tippit’s killer leaned on to the ledge of the car window on the passenger’s side door just a few seconds before shooting Tippit. Was LHO prints found on that door?
Today’s episode dives into exonerating or at least complicating evidence that casts serious doubt on Oswald’s guilt in the Tippit shooting. Why could witnesses not agree what the killer of JD Tippit was wearing. Were there witnesses that saw more than one gunman at the Tippit shooting? Why has maybe the most important witness to the JD shooting disappeared? What do the story of the shells found at the scene tell us? Automatic shells were found at the scene but guess what, LHO did not own an automatic pistol and one was not found on him at the time of his arrest.

He went on to say that, while this is only a small part of the large mystery of the Kennedy assassination, it raises questions that remain "unanswered," makes inferences which are "ultimately inconclusive," and is therefore an "unanswerable mystery."

General Edwin Walker reported that he was the target of an assassination attempt at his home on April 10, 1963, but escaped serious injury when a bullet fired from outside hit a window frame and fragmented.
