Dr. Stacy Edds-Ellis is an educator, leader, and change-maker whose career is defined by service, growth, and community impact. Growing up in Calhoun, Kentucky, she learned leadership from her parents and carried those values into 20 years at Owensboro Community & Technical College, where she served in several roles including academic advisor, Discover College Grant Director, Dean of Academic Affairs, among others.
A graduate of Western Kentucky University, where she earned both her undergraduate and master’s degrees, Dr. Edds-Ellis later earned her doctorate from the University of Louisville. Her personal journey includes navigating the uncertainty of military life after her husband was deployed before their originally planned wedding. Today, she is a wife, mother of a 15-year-old son, and passionate about developing future leaders.
After her successful two-decade career in higher education, she stepped into a new chapter with the Greater Owensboro Leadership Institute, where she now helps grow leaders and strengthen the community through training and development initiatives, including work with the Hardwood Institute.

As a young, single mom, Ashley learned quickly that survival required tough choices. For a season, life experiences led her down a dangerous path, but she refused to stay there. Choosing a different future for herself and her children, she made a complete turn from survival mode to something sustainable. A snow cone stand for sale became Pinky’s Snow Cones & Treats. Baking followed. Now catering. Step by step, she has built something of her own. Along the way, she leaned on faith, pushed through challenges, and chose to show up for herself. Fierce and faith-filled, Olga McKissic is a commanding presence with a gentle soul. Originally from Owensboro, Olga, got her career start at South Central Bell in Louisville and later found herself back in Owensboro on a mission for change. Olga serves as the Executive Director of Western Academy at the Neblett, an academic enrichment program for African American and Biracial males in grades 3–12. Prior to devoting her efforts to her “scholars”, she served as Executive Director at the Neblett Center. More recently, Olga accepted a new challenge as the first black board chair of the Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce. When Olga speaks, you immediately hear her wisdom and compassion for others. Olga has a strong faith and a heart for change. Owensboro has been made and continues to be immeasurably better by her impact.

A beloved 1st grade teacher, Jenny Rickman, is shaping the next generation with immense love for her students. When you're greeted by her beautiful smile and warm demeanor in the halls of Highland Elementary, you do not see the many heartbreaking trials she has endured. In this episode, Jenny vulnerably shares about divorce, traumatic pregnancy, delivery, long nicu stays, and the severe metal health struggles that would take her late husband. Despite her unimaginable trauma, loss, and grief, Jenny has faith that is absolutely palpable. The way she has persisted through all that life has thrown at her is nothing short of a miracle. You will be incredibly humbled, just as we were, to listen to the very personal journey of Mrs. Jenny Rickman.
Born and raised in Owensboro, Destiny Daugherty is a true Kentucky girl. Out of high school, she headed to Owensboro Community and Technical College, leading her to her career as a First Assist. She currently works at Owensboro Health in plastic surgery helping people with reconstruction and personal changes. She’s been married 19 years and has two kids. Their son was shockingly diagnosed with cancer as a toddler and they fought together as a family. They wouldn’t be hit with cancer just once, but again in 2020 when Destiny was diagnosed with breast cancer. And in a twist of fate, she would become the patient at the plastic surgery office she dedicated herself to (and still does). Destiny and her family have experienced many uncertain times, but show a level of gratitude for everything they’ve been through and everything they have. Born in Columbia, South America, Carolina Campos moved to Owensboro with her family when she was just 15. A graduate of Owensboro High School, she has a heart for her (now) home. She later earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s in social work from Brescia University. Today she has found her niche as the Youth Services Coordinator at Burns Middle School. Carolina contributes innovative ideas to grow the potential of her students and provide them with resources they might otherwise be missing. She is a true example for local youth and her daughters and is integral in building the confidence in her middle school students. Everyone meet, the hardworking and impactful, Carolina Campos.
Leading approximately 5,000 people, Beth Steele serves as Owensboro Health’s Chief Operating Officer. With extensive experience in daily hospital operations and serving first, as a nurse, Beth used her knowledge, hard work, dedication to healthcare, and servant leadership to get where she is today. She is exactly the kind of leader you want to work with. She has implemented several workforce innovations and been integral in forming nursing shared governance, among many other initiatives. It is clear that Beth has found her calling of taking care of the people that take care of people. She shares her experience navigating her own health struggles and how she is feeling today. Beth is poised, approachable, kind, and sincere and we are proud to have her serving Owensboro in such a big way.
She’s tiny, but she’s mighty. As a toddler, Katie’s parents were given news that she would have health issues that could prevent her from living past her teen years. Here she is in her 30s defying the odds. From countless surgeries to daily healthy struggles, Katie has endured many obstacles to get to where she is today. She has finally found a sweet spot in her career at the Opportunity Center and is happily married. She is a devoted mom to her son and bonus children. Katie is full of spunk, joy, and a level of perseverance that will energize you.
Together with her high school sweetheart, Mary Wathen O'Herron, is the proud parent to 6 amazing kids...from age 5 to teenagers. She earned a Bachelors in English and later a Bachelors in Nursing taking her to a career as a nurse on the Mother/Baby Unit at Owensboro Health. Mary not only pours into postpartum women, but her coaching through The Women's School and her own program, Rising to Sainthood, allows her to provide tools to women from all walks of life. Through her coaching, she has led close to 200 women. She also collaborates with fellow Broad, Suzanne Cecil White, leading the Fueled Women Quarterly Conference. Mary is a self-proclaimed social butterfly, has a witty sense of humor, and so many wise words. Born and raised in India, Rini had big dreams of coming to the United States. At 17 years old, she decided to move to New York City to study art. A prodigy, she was just 5 years old when her artistic talent was discovered. Continuing to create art wasn’t her only dream as a young girl. Rini knew at a young age she wanted to be a pilot and eventually made it happen. You'll hear about her travels, how she ended up in Owensboro from the big city, and about her day job in real estate. In our first guest episode of Season 3, we have the privilege of sitting down with Tina Forrest. Tina just so happens to be Allyson's twin sister. We talk about their twintuition, favorite memories together, and times they wanted to kill each other (HA!). As a Business Risk Professional for U.S. Bank, she talks about her day job of technical writing. She speaks about her mental health journey; how she recognized something wasn't right, and the resources she has sought to heal. Tina is a cool, kind, witty woman, who loves her people hard. We are so thrilled to have Tina as our first Season 3 Broad and know that sharing her struggles with mental health will have an impact on many.

Our final Broad of the season is a real gem. Sara Aud is as sweet as she is strong. Not long after marrying her soul mate, Kyle, they were happily planning to welcome their first baby, sweet Emelia. It was with much grief and heartbreak that they had to say goodbye as soon as she entered the world…a grief that doesn’t fade. After their loss and experiencing secondary infertility, they pursued adoption and welcomed sweet Elle. Since then, they have added two precious boys. Sara has several passions and talents aside from being a super wife and mom. She is an occupational therapist where she currently practices in a school setting and more recently has started helping others plan their adventures by becoming a travel agent. There is more to Sara than a grieving Mother, but yes she will always grieve. Get to know the many sides of Sara. You will be left in awe of her resilience.
It doesn’t get much more authentic than Dr. Brittany McKinley. She is refreshingly real. As a practicing dentist and owner of Mint & Ivory Dentistry, she takes great care in making her clients feel comfortable. She has even enlisted the help of two therapy dogs to sit with patients when they are in her chair. Aside from working extremely hard to reach her dream as a dentist, she has experienced many trials. Just a couple of years ago, she was diagnosed with cervical cancer and endured traumatic treatments. She was then left with limited choices on completely her dream of having a third choice. She discusses her journey to finding a surrogate very close to home (or should we say work) and the emotions that have come with that journey. It’s our 50th episode! How amazing to celebrate so many impactful women over the past two seasons. Bravo Broads! On our 50th episode, we talk to go-getter, Summer Aldridge. Originally from Madisonville, she came to Owensboro to attend KWC. She returned home briefly, only to return back to Owensboro to work at her alma mater. Give her a task, she’ll go above and beyond. From her work at KWC to co-owning an event rental and planning business, Something Borrowed, Summer, gives her all. She is creative and passionate and also uses her skills to serve on the board of Habitat for Humanity. It’s definitely sweet Summer’s time. She is using her talents to serve her community in many impactful ways.
From heart surgery at just 4 years old that affected most of her young adult life to a heartbreaking pregnancy loss, Tricia Ahart, has endured trials that have tested her faith. But as a preacher’s kid, she was raised on a foundation of hope and trust. She talks to us about growing up in church and how she now serves in an important role at the same church her Dad led for a large part of his pastoral career. She has excelled as a Communication Professor and has used her skills to serve in the healthcare field. Tricia is full of spirit and joy. She lights up every room she walks into and makes everyone she meets feel welcome. It was a pleasure to get to know the spunky and jovial, Tricia Ahart.

National Infertility Awareness Week begins this Sunday, April 21st. Infertility is something that will always be a part of mine and Becca’s lives. In this episode, we chat about things we have overcome and perspective we have about certain aspects of infertility. Helping others who are in the thick of it, is something that is near and dear to us. Recently, Becca and I, along with two other ladies, started a local support group that continues to grow each month. Each year I dedicate the upcoming week to bring awareness through my jewelry business, Jackie Blue Handmade, with informative posts. And another very exciting event is a fundraiser that I host through my business for a couple going through infertility and pursuing treatments or adoption. With each purchase of this year’s awareness piece, you can nominate one couple. The pieces will go live this Sunday, April 21st at jackiebluehandmade.com. On May 21st, we will hold a drawing to name the winner of the money raised. Becca and I also started another fundraiser last year with our Broad of the Year event, where we gifted the remaining sponsorship money to a couple going through infertility. We were able to gift $2000. We truly want to help others because of how we were both blessed on our journeys. We hope this episode and the mission we are on, will bring awareness to those who haven’t been effected and support to those who are.

After suffering 3 miscarriages while teaching in Michigan, her and her husband assumed parenthood wasn’t in the cards. They decided to make a change and started applying to basketball programs across the nation where they finally landed at KWC. Not long after their move to Owensboro, they were blessed with a daughter. Now Nicole and husband Caleb are the only active NCAA Dll women’s basketball coaches with 13 consecutive winning years at the same institution. They have created a program that feels more like a family. They truly invest in the ladies on their team and help to build them to be ready for their next chapter of life. There is no argument, that on this episode, we have our coolest Broad yet. Shaina Tinnell, known to many as DJ SHAY, grew up right outside of Owensboro in Maceo, KY. Basketball and softball were the center of her life as a teenager. After graduating from Daviess County High School, she studied Psychology at the University of Louisville. From international destinations to countless music festivals, traveling has always been a big part of Shaina’s life. When a friend saw social media posts of her at festivals, he suggested she look into DJing. One opportunity led to another and now DJ SHAY is one of the most popular DJs in our area. Shaina is also our first Broad who is a member of the LGBTQ community. Hear how Shaina has navigated her identity in a small town and as a public figure and about how another overbooked DJ helped get her unexpected career started.
An Owensboro native and graduate from Owensboro High school, Navji Dixon, spent her high school years devoted to theater. Her passion for acting didn’t end there as she continued her studies at the University of Kentucky. She eventually landed a part in a Lifetime movie and other roles. You will hear her inspiring story of overcoming pressures related to body type and size as she navigated the acting world. Navji is also very passionate about her job as a Copyrighter for Buffalo Trace where she manages content on their digital platform. What started as a summer hustle to help pay for Pharmacy school, became quite the endeavor for young entrepreneur, Elizabeth Williams. With amazing specialty lemonades and the coolest mobile trailer, Squeeze-E’s Lemonade, has grown wildly. Not only is there always a long (worth the wait) line to get the most delicious lemonade, but Elizabeth also started an online course called, Lemonade University to share her secrets to success. She even has a podcast with her entrepreneur Dad called Rich Daughter, Poor Father where they chat about all things business. A real life Princess, Rebecca Spinks, is as sweet as they come. Her love of Disney inspired the development of her company, Magical Memories Character Co., where you can bring inspired characters right to your party or special event. But her story hasn’t always been a fairytale. Through a devastating miscarriage and navigating deep struggles with mental illness, Rebecca, has shown incredible resilience and bravery. She now gets to live her happily ever after because of the strength she showed to find the help she needed.
As cheerful as a daisy and as bright as a sunflower, Laurna Strehl spends her professional time managing the Western Kentucky Botanical Gardens. Through fun events on the grounds to impactful projects like the Path of Hope and Healing, Laurna is helping to create a space for people to experience the healing powers of nature. Through experiencing the loss of her sister from breast cancer, Laurna learned to live her life with intention and savor each moment. She is a recent graduate of Leadership Owensboro and recently helped to restart the Leadership Owensboro Alumni Association. Brilliant, kind, and selfless, Suzanne Craig has devoted her life’s work to relieving other people’s pain. After the tragic loss of her first husband, she turned her grief into a way to help others through their suffering. Suzanne was born in Paducah and moved to Owensboro when she was 12. Over the years, Suzanne has changed our community in countless ways. Through her work at the health department, her knowledge as a Therapist, being founder of the Owensboro Community Dental Clinic, and her devotion to Oasis Women’s Shelter, Suzanne is a pillar in our community. Not only does she put many hours in to serving others, but she is also an ordained minister and has the privilege of watching people commit their lives to one another. It is an absolute honor to sit down with Suzanne Craig.
Quiet, but tenacious, Laura Chapman was raised in Louisville and attended the University of Louisville. She worked for UPS after completing her undergrad and then continued on to complete her Masters while working full-time. After a move to Owensboro, Laura started her work at Owensboro Municipal Utilities (OMU) as the Manager of Planning. As the wife to a minister, faith has always been an important part of their life. From a small town in Indiana, Whitney Adamson Payne found herself calling Owensboro home after attending college at KWC. As an athlete, coach, strong competitor, and someone who loves a challenge, Whitney became interested in law. After passing the physical test on her third try, she worked in dispatch, as a patrol officer, and then off to the department of corrections. She is now a Sergeant at the Owensboro Police Department. As owner and painter with A Chick with a Brush, she offers indoor and outdoor residential painting services. Her journey through life has been unique and at times unimaginably painful. With choosing adoption at a young age and losing both of her parents to a plane crash, Jill had to grow up quickly. You will never hear Jill use tragedy as an excuse to get down. She is constantly pushing through to live life in a way that she knows would make her parents proud. She truly chooses joy every single day. Oh hey…and she is Jackie’s Aunt. From Manchester, KY, Dr. Andrea Moore had lots of big dreams. A few of her early goals included becoming a Dallas Cowboy’s cheerleader, a detective, and a neurosurgeon. To find the best fit, Andrea attended Tulane in New Orleans and then went on to medical school at the University of Louisville. Ultimately, she chose Obstetrics and has practiced in Owensboro for the past 21 years. If she’s not delivering babies or seeing patients, you’ll find her nose in a book. It’s appropriate that our (season 2) episode 2 guest, Suzanne Cecil White, is the sister of our season 1 episode 2 guest, Katie Cecil. Suzanne grew up on Cecil farm watching her family work hard everyday. She decided to pursue a different path in teaching and dedicated her time to her students for 10 years. After having her first child, her perspective shifted and she found herself back on the family farm using her talents to expand their reach. From creating a fruits and veggies delivery subscription for the community, to creating a gorgeous venue, her creativity brought new life to the farm. At her venue, White Chateau, they host weddings, meetings, showers, birthdays, parties, and her very own women’s conference called Fuel. We are so excited to welcome in a new year of Broads. We are kicking off Season 2 with go-getter and risk taker, Denise Jarboe. The baby of the family, Denise, was born on Christmas Day and grew up in Owensboro. Out of school, she waited tables and began a career at Unifirst. A huge leap of faith took her into the real estate industry where she still thrives today. Denise raises five beautiful daughters all while growing her career, maintaining an active lifestyle, and contributing to her community. Right now, she is participating as a Star in the Dancing with our Stars event. This event benefits the Boulware Mission, a recovery shelter for men. Happy 4th of July! We had the privilege of sitting down with the strong, smart, and bold 10 year old, Evelyn Tuil Laj. The maturity, intelligence, and care for others will blow you away. At just 5 years old, Evelyn moved from Guatemala to the U.S. with her family. As a part of the podcast club at her school, she made plans to come on the Broad Pod and she made it happen. She loves playing games, learning about historical events, and aspires to be an orthopedic surgeon. She has been a part of Girls Inc. for the past two years and loves all of the wonderful things she has the opportunity to experience and learn. We know your heart will be filled with joy hearing from our youngest broad, Evelyn.
On this episode, we meet the young, accomplished, and involved, Sara Williams. After graduating from KWC in 2015, she was offered a job at Riney Hancock and is still employed there today. She married her college sweetheart and they recently welcomed their first daughter after experiencing multiple losses. In addition to CPA, wife, and mom, she is also the Treasurer for the Daniel Pitino Shelter, has been heavily involved in Chamber of Young Professionals, and is the board President of the Botanical Gardens. We had the privilege of sitting down with two of our Orange Theory Coaches, Amy Smithhart and Cecelia Garrison. These two have been friends for years and have navigated the fitness industry side by side, yet have two completely different stories. We hear what it's like to be a coaches wife and boy mom from one and what it's like raising five kids and farm animals from another. We are so grateful for Amy's joyful spirit and Cecelia's motivation every time we show up at OT. It is quite appropriate that we had the privilege to learn more about Sharmy Davis this week. This past Sunday kicked off National Infertility Awareness Week, which is near and dear to Becca and I and to our guest. You will hear about how Sharmy is currently battling through her journey to parenthood and has met many road blocks and heartbreaking losses. But infertility is not the sum of who she is. Sharmy is currently Interim Dean of Students and Director of Cultural Diversity at Owensboro Community and Technical College. She was born in Japan to a Navy family. They eventually landed in Maryland where she got her undergraduate degree. She also has a Masters in Public Administration and is currently working on her Doctorate through the University of Kentucky. Sharmy shows strength and perseverance as she continues to inspire those around her and give back to her community all while in the trenches of a journey of her own.
Oklahoma raised, Danielle Beard Hayden, found herself building a life right outside of Owensboro after falling for a blonde headed extrovert in a matter of months. Danielle is an incredible photographer, talented writer, innovative farmer, loving wife, and amazing Mom. She talks about life on the farm, her long journey to motherhood, and surprise from country star, Brad Paisley. Danielle's calming presence and very creative mind are very inspiring. It's our 20th episode! This week we sit down with the resilient, Jessica Boarman. Through losing her brother tragically and caring for and losing her parents, Jessica has bravely kept moving forward. She began to use journaling as a way to focus her grief. She now shares her journaling experience with others through guided prompt card decks and is working on a grief journal and a book about her life experiences. On this episode, we sit down with the witty, intelligent go-getter, Dr. Shanna McGinnis. Dr. McGinnis pursued Pediatrics at the University of Louisville and later began practicing with Owensboro Health. While finishing her residency, she also navigated becoming mom for the first time. Then two years later, she gave birth to twin girls. More recently, Dr. McGinnis, made a huge career shift to property management by creating Blue Bridge Homes. She brings her own love of interior design and hosting together by operating Airbnb properties. She also offers training on how to get started in the short-term rental business. Dr. McGinnis inspires us by exemplifying the possibilities of redefining who you are.

Originally from Tennessee, Ashley attended college at Kentucky Wesleyan where she studied English and met her husband, Chris. Fast forward to now, they have created a life in Owensboro with their two precious kiddos. Ashley is changing the lives of her student and students across the state through her work with the K-12 Holocaust Initiative with a goal to enhance Holocaust education. Ashley also serves on the board of the local Oasis women's shelter. We love Ashley's fearless nature and fierce love for her family and career. She is a heck of a friend and community member.
