I love the story of Buddha inviting Mara, the Demon God, to tea. Mara represents lust, greed, anger, doubt, etc. When Mara would visit the Buddha to tempt him the Buddha would pour two cups of tea and sit with him and say "I see you Mara".
Forgiveness, resentment, bitterness go together. If we hold on to the pain in a way that makes us unable to forgive, we shackle our own hearts. Bitterness blocks us from the awe and wonder of our own lives. What if we were to Let It Be? Not let it go, but release the pain through forgiveness and see what the event is there to teach us.
Looking at sutra 1.33 (again) we see the four keys and locks. Patanjali shows us that there are four kinds of people, happy, unhappy, virtuous and wicked. How we engage with these people determines our own inner happiness.
Dreams leave a residue on us and in us whether we recall them or not. We know that we are discharging our conscious experiences (known or unknown) when we practice Yoga asana but what about our unconscious or subconscious experiences? We look at sutras 1.33 and 1.38 from Patanjali to see why it's important to discharge all the residue and begin again.
I have a favorite Upanishad that tells the story of two birds, two sweet friends, who dwell in the same self tree. This teachings reminds us that we are both, the one that is busy partaking in all the fruits of life (bitter and sweet) and the witness to all that is actually our higher Self.

Dhyana, the 7th limb of Yoga is defined as meditation. Meditation is not only a daily practice, it is also a state of Being. All that you engage in throughout your day can be done with a meditative state of awareness, thus bringing more balance and serenity to your life.
Dharana, the sixth limb of Yoga is defined as concentration. Not just any concentration, but a whole body experience free from muscular tension that offers an extraordinary element of psychic depth which invites the creative inner work to unfold.
Pratyahara - the 5th limb of Yoga is defined as withdrawal of the senses, sense restraint. It is also defined as opposed to ingestion. Think about all the info we take in all day, that which we are actively aware of and all that we are not. This is sometimes called the forgotten limb of Yoga, but it is essential to a peace of mind and any experience we wish to have of serenity.
Pranayama, the 4th limb of Yoga. Prana is life force energy; Anayama means stretch, extension, regulation, retraint. Breathe awareness practices help to calm the mind and the nervous system, moving from fight/flight to rest/digest.
Asana is the third limb of Yoga and is defined as seat, posture, poses. In this episode I share about the importance of alignment and the benefits of asana.

This is the intro to the 2nd limb of Yoga, the Niyamas. Niyamas are self observances, personal self care practices. In this episode we explore saucha (cleanliness, purity). Saucha is practiced in our body, minds, hearts, environments, etc. It's how we keep our personal space as well as our body temple free of toxicity, clutter and the like.

The very act of believing that someone or something outside of yourself can complete you is the essence of the 5th Yama, aparigraha (non-hoarding). We grasp at external items, people, experiences to a degree that blocks us from truly cultivating a relations with the Self. Join me as we unpack the final Yama.

Truthfulness, satya. The second Yama (moral restraint) deals with lies and truth telling. To lie is exhausting, the truth shall set you free.
Ahimsa, the first Yama (moral restraint) of the 8 fold path of Yoga, is defined as non-harming. Listen to your thoughts, are they hurtful, derogatory, bullying? Most likely they can be at times. The practice of recognizing when our thoughts, words & actions are harmful and shifting to a place of kindness and compassion leads us to love ourselves and others more fully. This is Yoga.
