Thoughts are powerful. They are what create results in our lives. Knowing that is one of the most liberating things I have ever learned!
What's the difference between fact and story? I give some examples in the hope that you can understand the difference between circumstances and thoughts. Listen in for the ah ha moment I had when criticizing my husband!
When you're looking at the facts of a circumstance, it helps to get specific about, time, place, words, details, etc. It helps take your mind from the thoughts or story that's creating emotion and lets you get curious about what it all means.
Today I use a metaphor of a gear shift in a car to talk more about how circumstances are neutral.
Circumstances, facts, situations, conditions, incidents occurrences, and reality are all neutral. See how your thoughts come into play.
Facts are just facts until we tell ourselves a story about them. What can you learn from the times I chose to dismount a moving horse?
People can say all kinds of strange things. Remember it's about them, not about you. When you feel hurt, it's helpful to ask yourself if you are safe and if you feel safe. If you aren't safe, get to a place of safety. If you are safe but don't feel safe it's a good time to look at where you feel unsafe in your body and give yourself some time to breathe into those places. Acknowledge them and give them space until you feel safe again.
What is justice? Is it punishment? Is it blind? Listen to the tale of two brothers and decide for yourself.

How accepting reality leads to greater peace and understanding. Control is an illusion.
Acceptance means to see things and people as they are, accepting them as they are and learning to love them in their current state. It's easier to move forward through acceptance than trying to control everything.

There's enough suffering in the world without layering on judgment or thinking things "should" be different. Those trains of thought can cause optional suffering. It's not easy, but there's a better way. "When you argue with reality, you lose - but only 100% of the time." ~Byron Katie

This week I interview Theresa Dobson, a friend and fellow coach about her journey to new beliefs. Theresa is an "avid explorer of all things to do with mindset (human thought) and happiness. Here's a nugget of wisdom from our conversation:
“Now I see happiness differently…If you build a sandcastle out of sand and the rain comes and washes the sandcastle down, or the wind blows the sandcastle down, you don’t lose the sand, you just lose the castle…I don’t think you can ever lose happiness. Happiness is always there it’s always accessible…you just have to go find it again and build. The grains are still there!”
