Dissecting Effects: Recent Episodes

Whenever I get a new piece of equipment, before I feel comfortable using it, I need to understand the full range of its abilities. Dissecting Effects is an audio journal of my personal exploration of audio effects, primarily guitar pedals. I'll talk through what I'm doing, and by the end of every episode I hope you can hear everything an effect has to offer.
It's worth noting I don't play the blues. Nothing against the blues but since I don't play the blues it doesn't help me to hear a bunch of fiery blues licks through a pedal. And more importantly I don't practice what I'm going to play and I'm mediocre at best. This is just me dorking around on a pedal to figure out what its deal is.
The Fairfield Barbershop is currently (as of 2023-06-11) my favorite overdrive pedal. The sound is really pretty nasty. It's not a smooth or pristine sound. It has a lot of randomness to the sound and it can get kinda weird for an overdrive.

The Eventide Rose has a ton of stuff going for it. Lots of great sounds and a really wild modulation section. For this one I even hooked up an expression pedal because it can meld between two different settings.
It doesn't work for me for a few reasons,
- There is too much going on and I don't like presets.
- The knobs feel a bit cheap even though the body of the pedal is all metal. Just not enough resistance to the knobs for me.
- Twisting the delay time with feedback turned up doesn't allow you to warp the sound interactively. I personally want a delay that I can interact with.
- Turns out I'm not a huge analog delay fan after all.

The Earthquaker Devices Hummingbird. It's hailed as a really choppy tremolo. But it's not the chop I need. However, it has definitely got its own sound.

Real mixed feelings about the Greer Soma 63. The prescence knob is very tempermental. But it also sounds kinda great at times.

It's a reverb. It has an alt switch. 6 different modes. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This pedal sounds really great and has lots of options to explore. Nice to have presets and tap tempo but there are some things that don't work for what I'm looking for right now. Enjoy.
