RAMily 101 was created to give high school seniors and first-year Rams a perspective on what to expect during their onboarding and first year on campus. We will have student cohosts and guest appearances from student leaders, faculty, staff, counselors, and alums.
You could’ve said that! In college, you will meet a lot ofgreat people and you will not be friends with everyone, but you do not have to be a foe, either. Communication is a major key; clearly stating your feelings will help alleviate some confusion between parties. Janet, Jordyn, and Kejuan are back to discuss the friendships and breakdowns due to communication issues.
Ew! Why are you approaching me like that? This is our firsttime meeting. Most people will not remember much about you; however, they will remember the first encounter and how you made them feel. Janet, Jordyn, and Kejuan join us to discuss the importance of having a positive attitude and how it can impact your college journey.
The campus is full of hustlers! Regardless of the supportyou have, always promote your brand; someone is watching. Promoting your brand is important, whether it is your name's reputation or a business you own. Devon and Messiah join us to discuss their businesses and how they promote their product positively.
ALWAYS protect your brand! It is important to have a goodreputation for your brand. Your brand can be anything from your name, your business, or any organization or company you are affiliated with. Joshua and Tamryn join us to discuss the importance of protecting your brand and maintaining a good reputation.
Aye, Shawty, what yo name is? How do you want to be approached for the conversation to take off? Understand that what works for some only works for some. Jared, Josh, and Rosalind join us to give advice on how to respectfully approach someone you are interested in.
Is this a safe space? EXPRESS YOURSELF! Society has placed so many labels on what it means to be a man that it has created a stigma surrounding men expressing their true feelings. Buckle up; it is going to get deep! Austin, Joshua, Kejuan, and Michael joined us to speak on toxic masculinity.
What’s college without a good summer experience? The collegeexperience goes beyond the classroom and campus involvement; what are you doing to continue to gain transferable skills and build your network? Biology majors Marshay and Rhea join us to speak on their phenomenal summer experience at Meharry Medical College.
We all have a hero that we look up to; however, it hits differently when you are the hero to someone else. As a first-generation college student, the hype and excitement from people in your hometown are just what you need to keep you motivated. As you hustle, grind, and execute, please remember that someone is always watching you. Jericho joins us to discuss his hometown experiences and what motivates him to keep going.
How can I assist you? Students often time suffer in silence,and you do not have to. There are several people and resources available for your success on campus. I have student leaders Himani Patel and Mouhammed Gueye here to help guide the conversation on how you can best utilize the campus resources.
Let’s talk about life as a RAM! Your college experience is what you make it. You can be broke or have many hustles, but the memories will last forever. I have student leaders Josh, Smit, and Tre here to share their experiences at ASU. These guys are hilarious, but they will keep it real as well!
Albany State’s motto is “A Past to Cherish, A Future Fulfill.” Knowing where you come from gives you an idea of where you are potentially heading. Buckle up! Assistant Professor Dr. Joshua Butler gives us a general history lesson.
One will support you through any crisis, challenge, or difficult situation, and the other one, well, if you see her face, that means you have a case. The Office of Student Support and Conduct staff, Ms. Shayla Taylor and Ms. Laquiela Daniel share the responsibilities and resources of their office. Depending on your needs, this office should be within your top five resources on campus.

Black Letter Greek Organizations are significant on college campuses and within the community. Some of us have been exposed to Greek life by relatives or old teachers; however, some students come to campus without any idea about Greek-lettered organizations. On this episode, we will be discussing “Divine Nine Organizations.” We have Greek Life and Community Engagement Coordinator, Mr. Anthony Morman, joining us to discuss Albany State’s Divine Organizations and the steps to becoming a member.
It’s a different world than where we come from. We have a common goal of graduating with a college degree; however, I have little ones depending on me! On this episode, we will be discussing “A Different World.” Ms. Arlexis Farmer joins us to discuss her journey of motherhood and school.
Being the first in your family to go to college can be challenging, but with a positive mindset, everything will work out for the best. You learn to find balance as you transition from high school to college, and it is not always at the start of the semester. Your first semester is a learning experience, and you must utilize all campus resources to succeed. On this episode, we will be discussing “Gotta Make A U-Turn.” Ms. Jayla Menefee is joining us to discuss her hiccups during her first semester and what she is doing now to ensure she is academically successful.

The Director of Educational Talent Search, Mrs. Callie Evans, is joining us to discuss the ETS program and how you can get involved as a middle or high school student.

The high school to college transition can be challenging; however, we are here to help you! Albany State and the University College have produced a podcast, “RAMily 101,” informing students on how to prepare for the overall college experience in the classroom and how to be successful through their four years at Albany State University. The objective is to offer programs and develop initiatives for first-year college students so the podcast will give listeners sound advice on the dos and don’ts on campus.
