Key takeaways:

  • To be successful in compliance, you need to know how to navigate through a crisis. Navigating through a crisis requires a high level of emotional intelligence to get to know and understand the people you lead.
  • Emotional intelligence in application can help you:
    • understand where the strengths and weakness of your team lie and how they complement one another.
    • foster an environment where ideas are heard, and people aren't afraid to speak up.
    • create a plan and be flexible enough to change direction, humble enough to accept when you've made a mistake, and courageous enough to correct your mistakes.
  • If you're going to worry about anything, worry about what you're going to live for. Always remember that some things are worth dying for, for everything else, you need a plan.

If you're interested in helping others, and creating policy and strategies to support teams that bring life changing medicines to patients around the world, consider a career in Compliance!

Listen in to the latest episode of The Conscious Biotech Exec for advice from Tina Soulis and learn from her journey to becoming the CEO & Founder of Alithia Lifesciences.

Key takeaways:
- What you do in your role can be easily taught, but if you want to lead you must be willing to listen, empathize, keep an open mind, and create safe spaces for you and others to learn and grow together.

  • Prioritize culture and task fit over a title, it can help you avoid situations where you’re only given tasks no one else wants. Figure out the tasks you enjoy most, and look for a manager/team culture that will allow you to focus on those tasks.

  • Unlike technical skills, EQ skills are not reinforced in school or in our homes especially for those of us who came from low income or marginalized groups so it's important to make time to work on these skills so we can move beyond just entering new spaces.

Are you moving into an HR role or into a position where you will be leading teams?

Listen into the latest episode of the Conscious Biotech Exec for advice from Monica Pleasant and learn from her journey to becoming the Director of HR for Medtronic Neurovascular, a global leader in medical device development.

A few key takeaways from the episode:
- If you're going to lead people, get to know them. If you want to get to know people, learn to listen. If you want to help people, ask more questions and listen with empathy.
- Find a mentor who has time, will have your best interest in mind, and has strong skills that are complimentary to your weaknesses. If you don't know your weaknesses, make time to find out.
- Work on those soft skills, they are just as important as technical skills. It's harder to master EQ/soft skills because unlike the technical skills you learn in your role and can be easily taught, it requires a change in behavior that only comes with a significant level of self-awareness, time, and intentionality.
- Belonging is an output of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Your teams won't get a sense of belonging if any of these inputs are missing.
