Welcome Back! In this episode I share a little story about one of our forays into food production. Sometimes no matter how much you plan, a project just doesn't end the way you intend. Leslie Fisher from the Benton County Soil and Water District shares how we can all benefit from the work and assistance they provide. The Soil and Water Districts work with the NRCS (Natural Resource Conservation Service) and complement their programs and work on special projects such as the Big Pine Watershed, which you will hear more about in this episode. The Soil and Water Districts assist not only farmers, but urban home owners as well with problems that exist on their land or yard and look for a solution using conservational practices. Examples include tillage changes, adding cover crops, or even rain barrels! Funds are often available to help compensate for the conservation minded change being made. Talk about “green” incentive!

Interested in adding a conservational practice on your land? Want to volunteer on a conservation project? Contact your local Soil and Water District for opportunities! There is a Soil and Water District in each of the 92 counties of Indiana – and in nearly every county of every state in the US. Check out the links below for more information.

Welcome to the very first episode of the Kinda Crunchy podcast!

Ever buy a lush, green head of leafy lettuce only to find a bag of mush in the back of the fridge some time later? Me too. Good news is, there’s a solution…

In this episode I welcome my friend, Mark Townsend to talk vermicompost. He is the co-founder of Cousin’s Compost. Wondering what vermicompost is? Did you know these little guys can help reduce waste that enters the landfills every day?!

Cousin's Compost offers products to help people; turn waste into useful material, improve soil, and grow healthier plants.  You can find Mark and his cousins using the links below!  He even shares some easy DIY options for a low cost entry into vermicomposting.
