Pay conscious attention to maintaining a set of friendships that sustain and nourish you by carrying out a regular friends audit. Ask yourself:

1 Does this friend bring me joy?

2 Does this friendship help me through challenging times?

3 Does this friend love me for who I am?

4 Does this friend listen without needing to make it about them or trying to make it ok?

5 Do I want to still be friends with this person?

Friends are often considered a crucial part of our support system, but their role goes beyond just providing companionship. Research has shown that friendships can have a significant impact on our mental well-being.

Our guest for this episode is Jessica Cleary LPC; a mental health expert who has been working in the mental health field since 2011. Jessica helps us explore the importance of healthy boundaries in friendships and how to navigate difficult situations that may arise in these relationships.

We discuss the various ways in which friendships can contribute to our emotional and psychological well-being, including providing a sense of belonging, offering support during challenging times, and promoting positive coping strategies.

Yeah, we're going there! Maintaining strong and meaningful friendships while being in a romantic relationship can be challenging. It can be easy to get caught up in your relationship and neglect your friendships, but it's important to remember that friendships are just as important as romantic relationships. We discuss the importance and complexities of romantic relationships and friendships to (hopefully) find the balance between the two to maintain healthy and respectful relationships.

Technology has allowed us to form and maintain friendships with people from around the world on social media. But does this mean that we are able to have more friends than what Dunbar’s number suggests? Dunbar's number is a cognitive limit to the number of people with whom one can maintain stable social relationships. While it is true that technology allows us to have more connections, the true extent of our friendship depends on how much effort we put into maintaining those relationships. So, let's take a look at how technology impacts our ability to make meaningful friendships in the age of social media.

What constitutes a true friendship? Is there a formula for when you can say that you’re friends? It feels more complicated that it feels it should be but defining who is a friend vs a true friend can get confusing fast. Which is why we turned to research by Shasta Nelson, author of 'Friendships Don't Just Happen' and 'Friendtimacy', has lead us to identify three criteria for friendship and how he can improve the quality of our friendships.

Do you have friends, you've thought about reconnecting with? Whether you've lost touch over the years or just haven't seen each other in a while, it feels like the friendship is both there but not there at the same time. What do you do?

We are Ricky and Sarah! Hosts of the friendtimate podcast. In our first episode we decided to talk about our own friendship reconnecting journey to try and figure out, what it takes to reconnect as friends.  We also discuss:

  • How We Became Friends
  • Tyler Perry's Friendship Tree
  • Friending (the verb)
  • Friendships Over Time
  • Play Dates

Although it might seem intimidating at first, reconnecting with old friends doesn't need to be complicated. It takes effort, an open mind, and some honest conversation. We hope this conversation helps you reconnect with your friends and create new memories together!

Hi everyone! We’re Ricky and Sarah, two friends who have known each-other for over 13 years. We first met when we were teenagers in high school, and now we’re now in our early 30s living in different continents. We lost touch over the past 10 years, but decided to recently reconnect. The most recurring conversation we had was, "how do friendships work?" So we decided to put those conversations on loudspeaker in the form of this podcast. Join us as we dive deeper into friendships - both our own and the term!
