In Part 3: Kyle Steiner explains how "Comfort and Progress, don't live in the same home." Combat, war and pushing your body to the extreme may seem uncomfortable to most, but were areas where Kyle felt at home. With retirement from the Army fast approaching, Kyle opens about what he finds uncomfortable in civilian life and how he needs to push past that initial hesitation in order to be the man that his children will be proud to call their father. There are no excuses for mediocrity and in this final installment of The Present Father's Interview with Kyle Steiner, he explains that he plans on taking on civilian life, fatherhood and any other future challenges with the same gusto that he approached his time in the military. Since then, he has completed multiple missions to the Middle East, Central America, and South America with U.S. Special Operations teams. The world has become too black and white. The mentality should not be, either you're with me or against me. The world is nuanced and many topics and issues are filled with shades of grey. That is why it is unfortunate that discourse in this country has become so childish to the point where if someone disagrees with you then you take it as a personal slight. This is not the case. People can and will disagree with you in life and you just have to talk with them with an open mind while also standing firm in your beliefs. Then when the dust has settled, shake hands and go about your day like an adult.

There are a handful of universal truths in life. As the world and civilization modernizes it seems that society has moved further away from these truths. Franklin Swann would like to reiterate the basics principals that got society to where it is and one of those is that The World Needs Men. There are too many horrible statistics surrounding the modern man and many of these are due to the fact that modern society wants to have the male species kept in a box. This box is isolating and leads to depression and many times worse. The people in your life need you. The world needs you.

Mr. Bill co-wrote a book with his father to recount his incredible story. In this episode Bill shares his story and the impact his father had on him. Below is a brief description of the book:

James C. Atkinson began life the descendant of an impoverished farming family in rural east-central Mississippi. While a high school senior, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force and, like so many young men of his generation, left his home to fight for his country in WWII.

After a year of rigorous training, he was qualified as a Radio Operator/Gunner on a B-24 bomber, and what began as the adventure of a lifetime for Sgt. Atkinson, ended in horror and tragedy in the war-torn skies over Ploesti, Romania.

Things like dating, playing sports, working hard impact jobs, writing, driving, and just everyday tasks proved to be more difficult given his circumstances. With over 17 surgeries on various bones in his body, Sam has had to learn to adapt to his situation, rise above the negativity, and find ways to succeed.

Tonight we discuss/debate "The Coddling of the American Mind: How Good Intentions and Bad Ideas Are Setting Up a Generation for Failure" and explore how we can do our part as fathers to make a real difference in society.

Website: https://www.thecoddling.com/

This book by Jonathan Haidt and Greg Lukianoff has gained a lot of attention in recent years.

The description of the book off the website is as follows: "Something has been going wrong on many college campuses in the last few years. Speakers are shouted down. Students and professors say they are walking on eggshells and are afraid to speak honestly. Rates of anxiety, depression, and suicide are rising. How did this happen?

First Amendment expert Greg Lukianoff and social psychologist Jonathan Haidt show how the new problems on campus have their origins in three terrible ideas that have become increasingly woven into American childhood and education: What doesn't kill you makes you weaker; always trust your feelings; and life is a battle between good people and evil people. These three Great Untruths contradict basic psychological principles about well-being and ancient wisdom from many cultures. Embracing these untruths—and the resulting culture of safetyism—interferes with young people's social, emotional, and intellectual development. It makes it harder for them to become autonomous adults who are able to navigate the bumpy road of life.

Lukianoff and Haidt investigate the many social trends that have intersected to promote the spread of these untruths. They explore changes in childhood such as the rise of fearful parenting, the decline of unsupervised, child-directed play, and the new world of social media that has engulfed teenagers in the last decade. They examine changes on campus, including the corporatization of universities and the emergence of new ideas about identity and justice. They situate the conflicts on campus within the context of America's rapidly rising political polarization and dysfunction.

This is a book for anyone who is confused by what is happening on college campuses today, or has children, or is concerned about the growing inability of Americans to live, work, and cooperate across party lines."

Tonight we discuss leadership in the face of adversity using the book "Endurance" by Alfred Lansing.

Experience one of the greatest adventure stories of the modern age in this New York Times bestseller: the harrowing tale of British explorer Ernest Shackleton's 1914 attempt to reach the South Pole. Our special guest is John Michael Clark who is a pastor and leads a program for men called The Family Captain.

In August 1914, polar explorer Ernest Shackleton boarded the Endurance and set sail for Antarctica, where he planned to cross the last uncharted continent on foot. In January 1915, after battling its way through a thousand miles of pack ice and only a day's sail short of its destination, the Endurance became locked in an island of ice. Thus began the legendary ordeal of Shackleton and his crew of twenty-seven men. When their ship was finally crushed between two ice floes, they attempted a near-impossible journey over 850 miles of the South Atlantic's heaviest seas to the closest outpost of civilization.

In Endurance, the definitive account of Ernest Shackleton's fateful trip, Alfred Lansing brilliantly narrates the harrowing and miraculous voyage that has defined heroism for the modern age.

Tonight we are joined by Dr. Willard F. Harley Jr. You can find all of his resources on https://www.marriagebuilders.com/ Biography: Willard F. Harley, Jr., Ph.D. is best known as author of the internationally best selling book, His Needs, Her Needs: Building An Affair-proof Marriage. Over four million copies have been purchased, and it is available in twenty-two foreign translations. Dr. Harley earned a Ph.D. degree in psychology from the University of California at Santa Barbara in 1967 and has been a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in Minnesota since 1975. For the first ten years after earning his degree, he taught psychology at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. During those years, he was also a frustrated part-time marriage counselor with little success in helping couples. In 1973 he discovered that he was not alone in his failure to save marriages — almost everyone in the marital therapy profession were also failing. So he spent the next two years designing an entirely new approach (see How Dr. Harley Learned to Save Marriages). When his success rate skyrocketed in 1977, he resigned from his teaching position to counsel full-time. Over the next ten years his solo practice developed into the largest network of mental health clinics in Minnesota (thirty-two locations) with over one hundred psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers and chemical dependency counselors working with him to provide a full range of mental health services. He became the exclusive provider of mental health and chemical dependency services in ten counties, and had offices in other counties as well. One of his responsibilities was to write support materials for the clinical program he directed. He created over one hundred questionnaires and wrote numerous articles that were given to clients as part of their therapy. Among the materials he wrote was His Needs, Her Needs, which was first published in 1986. Although it was written to be a support text for his marriage counseling program, within three years it had become a national best-seller and a basic reference for marriage counselors throughout the nation. By 1988 he found himself spending almost all of his time administering his clinics, and very little time doing what he enjoyed most — improving his marital therapy program. So he began turning his clinics over to the counselors who worked with him, and the ownership of his last clinic was transferred in 1993. Since then, he has written 19 more books and hundreds of articles. Dr. Harley continues to write, speak, and lead seminars throughout the US and Canada. Information regarding booking arrangements for his weekend seminar is found at How to Fall in Love and Stay in Love Seminar. Dr. and Mrs. Harley also host a daily one-hour call-in show, Marriage Builders® Radio. It can be heard on radio stations and on the Internet. They have been married for 58 years and live in White Bear Lake, Minnesota. They have two adult children, who are now working with them as marriage coaches, four grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.
