This week on the podcast I caught up with Jye Dean, an inspiring runner, run coach and founder of The Salt Social Run Club based on the Gold Coast, Australia.

Jye and I strongly connect over our love for running and for helping others with their running. Every Thursday morning we host the Salt Sessions together, a quality running session like hill sprints, fartlek or intervals, designed to improve our runners’ economy and efficiency.

As an exceptional runner and all around athlete from a young age, Jye shares his story of how he burnt out from running and overtraining, before finding his love for running again when COVID hit the world in 2020.

Jye has some big personal goals and goals for his athletes, and it was an honour for me to host him on his very first podcast.

I hope you enjoy the conversation of two young and passionate running coaches.

This week on the podcast I caught up with Jordan Chenery, an inspiring runner based on the Gold Coast, Australia.

Jord has become a close friend of mine since I made the move to the Gold Coast in July this year. We connected over our love for running and we both followed each other’s projects this year.

In June and July, Jord ran an incredible 33 marathons in 33 days, finishing his last marathon at the Gold Coast Marathon.

He has been running consistently for 20 years, and encourages others to play the long game when it comes to pushing their own body and mind.

He is a successful athlete and businessperson, and believes how you show up as an athlete transfers to the other areas of our lives.

Jord is a great example of someone with a holistic approach to running. With the right mindset and approach to nutrition, training and recovery, Jord shows us that you can run 6,000kms in a calendar year and still function at an incredibly high level in other areas of life.

Above everything, he always gives his time to others and offers help where he can, which is what I love most about him.

I hope you enjoy our conversation.

This week on the podcast, I caught up with Zara John, an inspiring 22 year old woman with a huge love for running, in particular, trail running. There were so many things I loved about this conversation.

At 22 years old, Zara has run many half marathons, marathons, a 60km ultra marathon, and just recently at 100km Ultra Marathon.

That is an impressive resume, and yet, unless you prompt that sort of discussion with her, you would never know because she's as humble as they come.

In fact, Zara is so humble that when I asked her where people can find her on social media, she said she didn't know what her Instagram handle was.

Zara refers many times to the Salt Social, which is an amazing running community that our mutual friend JDE has created on the Gold Coast. Since making the move to the Gold Coast myself in July, I've been running with Zara at Salt Social every Tuesday morning. It's a nice and easy community run where people come together to promote positive, physical and mental health and community.

I hope you enjoy this chat!

If you do, please leave a review and share it with others!

Episode 3 of the podcast involves host Sean Bell interviewing Pete Kavanagh.

If you think you’re too old to take up running… think again.

When most people reach 59 years old, they focus on retirement, and they’re definitely not interested in taking up a new sport, or putting themselves through discomfort voluntarily.

Well Pete Kavanagh is an inspiration to many, because he is the polar opposite.

Over the past 2 years (from 59-61 years old), Pete has run 5 Ultra Marathons, 5 Marathons, and over 81 Half Marathons! This is including non-official events (that is running the distance of an official event but outside of an official event), but they are mind boggling numbers for someone who was sitting on a bar stool every Saturday with his mates just 2 years earlier.

Pete has found his passion with running, and in his own words “feels like [he’s] been doing it for a lifetime”. He loves running for charity and to help and inspire others, he is driven, disciplined, and no matter the weather, he just shows up and gets it done. That’s why inside the First42K community, he’s known as “the Goat for a reason.”

We love what Pete is doing in the running and wider community, and are proud to have him represent First42K as an ambassador.

Episode 2 of the podcast involves host Sean Bell interviewing Nikki Langman.

As an international professional speaker, author, emotional intelligence expert, mother, wife and endurance athlete, Nikki is tremendously passionate about life, running and helping others live their most powerful lives by being a BADASS every day.

For over 30 years, Nikki was caught in the forceful grip of drug and alcohol addiction. Nikki’s inspiring and transformational journey overcoming addiction to become the person she is today, is one not to be missed!

Since 2018, Nikki has completed 31 running events, from 10k runs through to a 60km ultra marathon… not bad for someone who started running at 39 years old!

We love Nikki’s passion for life and we admire her for the work she does in the running world and wider community, which is why we are proud to have Nikki as an ambassador of First42K.

Episode 1 of the podcast involves host Sean Bell interviewing his First42K business partner and close friend David ‘DJ’ Jones.

First42K launched on April 11, 2021 by Sean Bell, David Jones and Jase Cronshaw. Starting our own podcast had been in the pipeline for a while, and for the founding episode Sean wanted to host both business partners DJ and Jase.

Devastatingly Jase passed away on April 15, 2022. Thankfully Sean recorded a podcast with Jase back in 2021 and so through this episode we’ve shared highlights of Jase from that podcast to ensure he is a part it.

DJ shares stories about his special relationship with his best friend Jase, and deep dives into his own personal experience as a father, husband, endurance athlete, lawyer, running coach, pianist, saxophonist, surfer and more! Yes… he does all of those things!
