We're so glad to be back! Thank you for your patience and support. We appreciate you being a part of the Knomii community.
Are you stuck in repetitive, unhelpful and even codependent patterns in your relationships? Well, you're not alone; this episode is about breaking that cycle. I'm diving into the intriguing world of the Drama Triangle, introduced by Stephen Karpman. This concept has been a game-changer for me, and I think it could be for you too!
In this episode, we're exploring those all-too-familiar roles of Victim, Persecutor, and Rescuer, and how they might be secretly running the show in your relationships. But here's the cool part: I'm also introducing you to the Empowerment Dynamic, a fantastic approach by David Emerald that flips the script and transforms these roles into something positive and, well, empowering!
I'll share my own journey (spoiler alert: it's been quite a ride!) and give you some real, tangible ways to shift from feeling stuck to feeling in control. We'll talk about becoming a Creator in your life, embracing challenges, and coaching others (and yourself!) to find solutions that work. This video is not just theoretical; it's packed with actionable steps and reflection exercises to help you make meaningful changes in how you relate to others.
Whether you're dealing with recurring conflicts or seeking to enhance your relationships, this video is a must-watch. You'll learn how to shift from being a passive participant in drama to an active creator of healthy, fulfilling relationships. Join me on this journey of self-discovery and relationship transformation.
🔹 Key Topics Covered:• Understanding the Drama Triangle
• Exploring the Empowerment Dynamic
• Identifying your typical roles in relationships
• Practical steps to shift from Victim, Persecutor, or Rescuer to Creator, Challenger, or Coach
• Real-life examples and reflection exercises

Forget always chasing happiness or finding grand meaning. There's a secret ingredient to a truly good life – psychological richness. Explore what it is, why it matters, and how to live a life overflowing with growth, perspective, and even a bit of gritty adventure.
What's in this episode? Beyond the Basics: We'll unpack the distinct differences between a happy, meaningful, and psychologically rich life. (Hint: You can have them all!) * Are You Psychologically Rich?: We'll discuss the surprising traits and tell-tale signs of people who crave and live a psychologically rich life. Do you resonate? * The Restless Spirit: If a sense of restlessness haunts you, or you crave novelty, this episode is for you. We'll discuss why that feeling might be guiding you toward something extraordinary. * Intensity = Growth?: Discover why a psychologically rich life might involve more intense emotions – both the dazzling highs and the challenging lows – and how that fuels transformation. * The Desire for Change:* Learn why those chasing psychological richness are often driven to shake up systems and challenge the way things are.
Quotes to Consider: * "I felt really seen by an academic paper... This term psychologically rich just describes what I chase." – Madeline * "Psychological richness and the desire to grow and be curious and be open... just gave me that language to be like, yeah, I don't always prioritize the happy life because there's something that matters more to me." – Madeline * "Perhaps true psychological richness isn't found in harmony or a balance, but in the raw intensity of the experience..." – Cynthia * "It all makes sense! This is why I ran away from teaching! And, like, why I just basically should have bumper stickers all over my car and say, I hate systems!" - Maggie * "...people whose lives are psychologically rich tend to seek out challenges and value learning and are less interested in maintaining the status quo." – Quote from the paper: A Psychologically Rich Life: Beyond Happiness and Meaning, Oishi, S., & Westgate, E. C. (2021, August 12)

In this heart-to-heart conversation, your hosts, the dynamic mother-daughter duo Cynthia Garrett (Licensed Mental Health Counselor) and Madeline Farquharson (Certified Professional Coach), along with their esteemed guest, Ellie Lane (Leadership Coach and LICSW), dive into a topic that touches many but is spoken about by few: the complexities and sensitivities surrounding mental health conversations. This episode is not just a discussion; it's a journey into understanding the shame and awkwardness that often shroud mental health topics, the challenges in suggesting loved ones seek support, and the hurdles in finding the right kind of help. If you've ever wanted to be a beacon of support in the lives of those you care about, or if you're looking to break down the barriers of mental health stigma, this episode is your guiding light.
Key Takeaways with a Twist: The Grocery Store Encounter: What would you do if you ran into your therapist at the grocery store? We discuss the nuances of such interactions and how we like to navigate them. * Tackling the Awkwardness: Understand why discussions about mental health can be inherently awkward and how to approach these conversations with sensitivity and empathy. * Why Does It Matter Anyway? We chat about why therapy, coaching and other forms of support are so important. * Decoding Industry Jargon: We dive into the often confusing world of therapy and coaching jargon, offering insights on how to make sense of it all and communicate more effectively with professionals. * Approaching Mental Health Support as a Standard Recommendation:* Discover why it's crucial to treat the search for mental health support with the same seriousness as we would for any other professional service, and how this perspective can transform our approach to mental wellness.

“Be the change you wish to see in the world.” Gandhi - apparently this is not the real quote, but rather a summary! The real quote is:
“We but mirror the world. All the tendencies present in the outer world are to be found in the world of our body. If we could change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also change. As a man changes his own nature, so does the attitude of the world change towards him. This is the divine mystery supreme. A wonderful thing it is and the source of our happiness. We need not wait to see what others do.”
“Success is liking yourself, liking what you do, and liking how you do it.” Maya Angelou

Visualize your ideal life: Spend some time imagining your ideal life. What does it look like? What are you doing? Who are you with? This can help you identify what truly matters
Here are some steps you can take to change the conversation to "I want": Identify your goals and values: Take some time to reflect on what is important to you, what you enjoy doing, and what you want to achieve in life. Write down your goals and values, and make sure they are aligned with what you truly want.
Reframe negative thoughts: Whenever you notice yourself focusing on what you don't want, consciously reframe those thoughts into positive ones. For example, if you catch yourself thinking, "I don't want to fail," rephrase it to "I want to succeed."
Visualize what you want: Spend some time visualizing yourself achieving your goals and experiencing the things you want in life. This can help you shift your mindset towards a more positive and growth-oriented perspective.
Take action: Once you've identified your goals and values, take action towards achieving them. Break them down into small, manageable steps and work towards them consistently. Celebrate your progress along the way to keep yourself motivated.
Surround yourself with positivity: Surround yourself with positive people, books, podcasts, and other resources that inspire and motivate you to focus on what you want in life.
Where would you be if you could NAME your fears/obstacles and overcome them?
Three Wishes Visualization Find a quiet and comfortable place where you won't be interrupted. Take a few deep breaths and allow your mind to settle.
Close your eyes and imagine that a magical being has appeared before you. This being has the power to grant you three wishes.
Take a moment to consider what you would wish for. You can choose anything you like, but try to focus on wishes that are meaningful and important to you. It can be helpful to ask yourself what you truly desire in life.
When you're ready, state your first wish out loud. Imagine the magical being granting your wish, and allow yourself to fully experience the joy and fulfillment that comes with it. Imagine how your life will be different as a result of this wish coming true.
Repeat this process for your second and third wishes. Take your time with each wish and allow yourself to fully immerse in the experience of having it granted.
Once you've completed all three wishes, take a few deep breaths and slowly open your eyes. Take a moment to reflect on your experience and the feelings that came up for you during the exercise. You may wish to write down your wishes and any insights (whys) you gained from the visualization.

We reveal that our emotions exist because they serve the vital function of attaching ourselves to what really matters and what we deem internally valuable.
We highlight that belonging and safety are two of the main feelings that we humans are hardwired to require for survival. Emotions also serve a valuable purpose in self-communication, and in helping us discern our values and goals. Our emotions can tell us what we need, or what is unhelpful.
Knowing those things can help guide our life and alter our choices, thus having the ability to change ourselves and create the meaningful lives we want.

Emotions come and go like waves, if we let them. The idea here is to ride the wave of emotion instead of trying to stop a giant wave and getting pushed around.

What You’ll Learn From This Episode:
Today Madeline and Cynthia ask the question of how can we feel like a caring person and still care for ourselves. At the end of the day, people-pleasing comes from a desire to receive love and acceptance from others.
People-pleasing isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Being a concerned and caring person is an important part of maintaining healthy relationships with loved ones. It becomes a problem, however, if we are trying to win approval in order to shore up weak self-esteem or if we are pursuing the happiness of others at the expense of our own emotional well-being.
What we discussed:
(00:47) The tendency to people please for the holidays
(02:09) Getting out of assumptions land
(03:02) Going from pleasing to priorities
(04:30) Checking in on energy levels
(05:48) Put on your own oxygen mask first
(07:34) The truth about people-pleasing: it's not about them!
(09:11) Why confidence combats people-pleasing
(10:42) Going beyond obligations
(12:43) Choosing values over fears
(15:38) Going in for the win-win
(16:21) Compromise vs. sacrifice
(18:56) Fear-driven vs. love-driven
(21:30) Ending with a quote
(21:58) BIG NEWS: retreats coming in 2023!
(22:43) Closing notes
For further reading and tools:
Make yourself a priority.
Your wants and needs are just as important as your family and friends (in fact, they are more important because you should be your own top priority).
What do you want to do? How do you want to feel? What can you do more of to feel that way?
Choose Values Over Fears. ...As you are able, check in with yourself to see what values-driven choices or decisions might be accessible in any given situation.
Start Setting Boundaries Now. …Dr. Brene Brown’s definition: “Boundaries are simply what’s okay and what’s not okay.” Having your boundaries set beforehand can go a long way in terms of promoting self- respect and autonomy, while still allowing yourself to show up for your family.
Communicate your needs to others …Communication is defined as a lot of things but my favorite definition includes, “the successful conveying or sharing of ideas and feelings”.
Get Comfortable Saying No. ...Consider what you are sacrificing. Saying “no” can be difficult but consider what you are sacrificing every time you say “yes” to please others.
Take Care of Yourself. …Self-care is important to maintaining a healthy relationship with yourself. It means doing things to take care of our minds, bodies, and souls by engaging in activities that promote well-being and reduce stress
Give Yourself Grace. Work on giving YOURSELF the love and acceptance you crave from family, friends, and loved ones. You are totally and completely worthy just as you are.
Create Win/Win Scenarios
Turn Obligations into honoring values
Quote for reflection:
“What could I do if I just knew it didn't need to be perfect? It just needed to be.” Encanto lyrics

In this episode, we break it down into two parts: how to set a value-based goal, and then how to achieve it. It's a fail-proof method (which we also explain). What You’ll Learn From This Episode:
Today Madeline and Cynthia explore that dreadful word, ”should”. Taking a look at how this plays out in our lives.
The “should” is likely generated by the mind in its rational wisdom. The underlying feelings are held by the body. How often do we ignore or completely dismiss them and do what we “should”?
Each time we do that, we tell our Self that we’re not important (or at least not as important as the thing we “should” do). Each time we disconnect a little more from our authentic Self. We give away our authentic power.
In today's conversation, we explore the meaning behind "should" and discover what we CAN leave behind.
What we discussed:
(01:06) Introduction: That word that pops up this time of year
(03:01) The RAIN Technique
(05:45) Letting your thoughts come and go

(14:24) Who is in the driver's seat?
(16:20) "Should" as a motivator
(18:41) Stories we tell ourselves

What You’ll Learn From This Episode:
This week’s episode provides a guide to being rather than doing. What does that mean? Doing has an endpoint or limitations such as only doing it when you feel comfortable. Being is when in every situation you commit to using one of your core values. What are yours?
We believe that everyone should intentionally live a life based upon their own values; a state of being. This show features a discussion around designing and implementing individual values-based mindsets and also introduces Cynthia & Madeline (the show’s co-hosts). They share how exploring their own values-based mindset can lead to a more fulfilling life.
