The Art of Self Worth

Did you know 85% of people have low self-esteem? Join Sarah Anne and Sarah Kelly for conversations about discovering our worth. Each of us has the potential to make a positive impact on the world. However, we often forget this and become disconnected from our true worth. Finding our worth is a lifelong journey that includes play, joy, pain, fear, healing, unlearning, re-learning, and more. In this podcast we share the good, bad and in-between around self-worth. You are worthy.

Have you ever felt like the weight of the world is too much to bear? You’re not alone.

In this vulnerable episode, Sarah Anne and Sarah Kelly explore their own experiences of losing and rediscovering hope, including a recent period where Sarah Anne felt completely devoid of hope—a state she had never experienced before. It was not fun.

Together, we explore the heavy, suffocating grip of hopelessness and the steps we've taken to navigate those moments when anxiety and depression take hold. (Spoiler: the answer lies in community and connection!)

When in that state of hopelessness, even the simplest acts of self-care and reaching out for support can feel impossible. The things that did bring us joy, hope and connection stop working. We don’t have the energy to do the things we normally do to keep regulated and balanced.

But what if we could ask for help? Or even just accept help when it is offered? How might our community guide us back to joy and hope? Letting others in, even when it’s terrifying, can remind us that we’re not alone. And help us reconnect to hope.

Whether you’re facing a significant life challenge or just the everyday grind, this episode offers practical advice, stories from our experiences with mental health, and a powerful reminder that it’s okay to not have everything together.

If you’re struggling with the feelings of hopelessness, isolation, anxiety, depression or self-harm, please reach out for help. Our podcast is for educational and informational purposes only, based on our personal experiences, and does not constitute providing medical advice or professional services. A licensed mental health professional can help you discover the path of healing right for you. We’re here, and we understand.

Leadership is more than guiding teams towards achieving business goals; it's about doing so with compassion and courage, especially in a post-pandemic world that demands a human-centric approach. In our latest podcast episode, we are honored to have global leader and speaker, Daisy Auger-Dominguez, share her insights on creating work environments that thrive on empathy, resilience, and inclusivity.

Throughout our conversation, Daisy, author of Inclusion Revolution, emphasizes the necessity for leaders to embody compassionate courage—a term inspired by Chanel's CEO, Leena Nair's philosophy of putting people at the heart of business operations. This approach is not only humane but also strategic, as it aligns with workers' growing expectations and the need for a supportive culture that fosters trust and confidence within the workforce.

We also delve into Daisy's career journey, examining how being the first, or the only, in various roles shaped her into the leader that she is today. Her experiences underline the powerful influence of supportive managers and inclusive environments in fostering executive growth. Daisy candidly discusses the challenges in creating empowering cultures and how operational hurdles can either invigorate or stifle the human spirit within the workplace.

And of course no conversation with us would be complete with a dive into the importance of self-worth at work. Leadership today is about fostering a culture of self-worth, enhancing team relationships, and making inclusive decisions. Daisy encourages leaders to ask reflective questions that drive strategic planning and action, emphasizing the importance of authenticity and the continuous effort to align our actions with our values.

Anyone keen on the intricacies of embedding DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) into every facet of the employee experience won't want to miss Daisy's valuable perspectives. So join the conversation and discover how balancing courage and compassion leads to exceptional leadership, as well as increased personal resilience and well-being.

How we feel about how we look plays such a huge role in our lives. It's inevitable in our culture. From a very young age we start questioning our appearances. One study reports that at age thirteen, 53% of American girls are “unhappy with their bodies.” This grows to 78% by the time girls reach seventeen.

And it doesn’t necessarily improve as we get older. When we talk about our relationships with our bodies, most women immediately go to their relationship with how their bodies look.

On today’s podcast, we’re talking with photographer Jen Dean. Jen is so much more than a photographer. She’s a storyteller, a guide, and a healer in the journey of self-embodiment. Jen shares with us how photography has always been a part of her life, and more importantly, its impact on her personal journey and how she helps others see their beauty.

Throughout our conversation we'll explore:

  • Photography as a tool for self-acceptance and self-love.
  • The significance of feeling good about ourselves and how it can change how we move in the world.
  • Photography as a form of storytelling that helps people connect with each other on a deeper level.
  • The power of changing your beliefs and giving yourself permission to see yourself differently to impact on your confidence and self-acceptance.

Community! It's such a powerful tool in each of our self-worth journeys.

The truth is, self-worth thrives in community. It helps us remember other people have been (or currently are) right where we've been. Struggling with similar things and experimenting with different ways to move past those struggles.

And let’s be honest, while self-worth is discovered inside of us, sometimes a reminder from fellow journeyers that we are worthy helps us to trust that voice inside saying the same thing.

This is what we're discussing today. The importance of community, how to define community, and maybe most important, how to start creating that community of your dream no matter how brave you're feeling.

Throughout our conversation we'll explore:

  • The significance of community in shaping your self-worth journey and personal growth.
  • The power of heart-centered connections for emotional healing and fostering deeper relationships.
  • Online platforms as alternative spaces to find and engage with supportive communities.
  • The art of navigating relationships with self-compassion and understanding individual journeys.
  • Our newest coaching program, Blossom, a transformative experience designed to enhance self-worth through community and connection.

In this episode, Sarah and Sarah discuss how to practice compassionate self-awareness and use it to balance out the negatives with positives.

Compassionate self-awareness is at the center of our wheel of worth - and for good reason! By being honest about ourselves we can better identify our gifts as well as the things we want to improve and areas of growth.

We suggest starting the day with a positive self-reflection, accompanied by compassion, and talking to your body in moments of anxiety. Through connecting with oneself, you have the ability to not only understand the world on a more meaningful level, but to make conscious choices about how to act moving forward.

We end with a homework assignment to help you become more self-accepting. Think of one thing you love about yourself, one thing you are good at, and one thing you bring to the world. Write it down, and share if you're feeling brave. If it is too difficult, start small! Ask for help from a friend or loved one, to show how we can lift each other up in community.

Throughout, we invite you to explore:
1. What if we added compassion to self-awareness?
2. How can we balance the negative thoughts in our minds with the positives?
3. How can having self awareness benefit not only ourselves, but our communities?

In this episode, Sarah Kelly and Sarah Anne have a candid conversation on what it was like to live through their friendship during Sarah Kelly’s active alcoholism and path of recovery.

We became friends during Sarah Kelly's active alcoholism. And while we've talked about aspects of her drinking and sobriety, we've never had a one-on-one conversation of what it was like to live through this time in our friendship. So we decided to do that … and record it.

Sober curious? The Imiloa Institute in Costa Rica is an alcohol-free campus. While it’s not a theme of the retreat, it’s a fun experiment to explore life without alcohol. We’ve still got a couple of spaces open. We hope you will join us!
