In Isaiah 40-55, Isaiah casts his vision forward to the exile in Babylon. The people of Judah are in captivity in the Babylonian empire. Away from their homeland, defeated and destitute they ask the questions: - Does God still love us; does he care? - Is he aware of what’s happening to us; does he know? In episode 17 God answers with an emphatic “YES”! But the question remains: - Is God strong enough to save us? After all, Babylon had defeated Judah and God’s people were captives. “Comfort my people … Eagles wings … when you pass through the waters”. This episode includes some of the best known, well loved verses in Isaiah. In Isaiah 40-55, Isaiah casts his vision forward to the exile in Babylon. The people of Judah are in captivity in the Babylonian empire. Away from their homeland, defeated and destitute they ask the questions: - Does God still love us; does he care? - is he aware of what’s happening to us; does he know? - is he strong enough to save us. God answers emphatically yes! There is hope for heavy hearts.
The first episode in book 2 of Isaiah; “the Exile in Babylon”. In chapters 38-39, Isaiah again uses the literary device of lifting historical text straight from 2 Kings, to demonstrate the rise of the Babylonian super-power, which would dominate Judah’s history for nearly a hundred years.
Hezekiah’s illness, miraculous recovery but ultimate failure drives home the message: Keep living for God, right to the end!
Isaiah closes his first "book" (chapters 6-37) by describing King Hezekiah’s brave and faithful stand against Assyria, lifting 2 chapters from 2 Kings to do so … but with a twist! In chapters 36-37 Judah and Jerusalem face their gravest threat yet. But with the mighty intervention of the LORD, prompted by Hezekiah’s unswerving faith, the threat of Assyria turns into the fall of Assyria and Judah is saved! God really can be trusted in crisis. This week, as Steve and Rhys met to discuss the latest episode in the Isaiah series, there was a seriously united vision. This was going to be a rallying call to RETURN TO THE LORD! Just as Isaiah does in the corresponding chapters, the discussion looks at two ideas, life without God and life with God.

As Isaiah's first "book" (chapters 6-37) comes to a close, he starts to summarise the message so far, and brings his key points into sharp focus: there are two ways to live; the life of faith which leads to life, and the life of doubt, unbelief and self-interest which ends in death and destruction. In chapters 28-35 Isaiah describes the contrasting kingdoms of current, failing Judah and the future victorious kingdom of Messiah. He invites his listeners to join Messiah's wonderful kingdom of the future, but to live in the blessing of that future kingdom right now!
In chapters 13-27, Isaiah describes how God's judgment will ultimate lead to the blessing and salvation of the whole world. In this second-of-four messages in this sub-section, Isaiah brings prophecies against the ancient enemies of Cush and Egypt ... and then uncovers a surprising enemy - the nation of Judah itself! Figuratively, this refers to God's judgment over our sinful flesh. But the great news is our sinful flesh can be redeemed and restored in the new heavens and the new earth.
In the final episode of the Leviticus series, Peter and Lara get excited about Celebrating Life. God includes festivals in a book of law?? He is an Awesome God who takes our breath away just because of Who He Is, but also has done Such great things for us that how could we not celebrate that! We look at how practices like Easter, Communion, Sabbath, Obedience and Dedicating your whole life to God all help us to Celebrate Life.
Lev 17-22 are full of seemingly random laws which are hard to understand and even harder to make relevant to 21st century Christmas life. Peter and Lara unpack the principles behind a these laws and how we see Jesus pointing us to live our lives by those principles too. In this penultimate episode of the Deeper into Leviticus series, we are on our way back down the mountain after having been in the presence of God. But how do we go about continuing to live in holiness back in an unholy world?
In chapters 13-27, Isaiah describes how God's judgment will ultimate lead to the blessing and salvation of the whole world. In this fourth-of-four messages in this sub-section, Isaiah brings the "Judgment" section of his prophecy to a majestic end, showing how the judgment of the individual nations is symbolic of the ultimate judgment of the whole world. But God's purpose in judgment is to restore - to recreate the heavens and the earth, setting up a glorious future for everyone who trusts and loves him.
'Be holy therefore, as I am holy'. Why would God say that to us and How on earth can we live up to it? What is the difference between being forgiven and being cleansed? Why do we need to strive towards holiness if we are already redeemed? Peter and Lara talk about why becoming pure is a vital part of the journey towards entering the presence of God, and how we get to share in God's holiness.
Leviticus 16: The Day of Atonement. It is one of the most powerful old testament pictures of Calvary - because of Jesus we can all enter into the Holy of Holies. Into God's Presence. But how? If God is always with us is there a place for 'mountain top encounters'? What do experiencing/entering/dwelling in God's presence even mean? Lara and Peter begin to practically unpack some different ways we can connect with God and experience his presence.
In this episode of the Leviticus series Peter and Lara talk about what it means for us today to be a living sacrifice. Do we need to be 'giving up' and laying down for God? Is it a demand or a demonstration of how much God is worth to us? Sometimes it can seem that God is demanding us to let go of things for no reason, but let's ask ourselves: what is he giving you to pick up in its place? What are you Willing to give God? How much is He Worth to you?

Is God intolerant? What is holiness and sin? Why does God tell his people to kill animals and what does it have to do with the presence of God? In this episode of the Leviticus series Peter and Lara explore the foundational concept of sacrifice; how Jesus' death is the ultimate atonement that leads us into God's presence and what does it mean to be 'people of the presence'.
In Isaiah chapters 9 and 10, Isaiah declares prophecies about Israel and Assyria - they will both fall. But a small number of faithful believers (a "remnant") from all nations will return to the LORD. And ultimately, a Messiah-type figure, from David's line, the Branch of Jesse, will take up righteous
