Our podcast this week is all about the new Late Schedule Change Policy that begins this semester. Sharon Mueller, director of advising and policy in ESS goes over the policy and process, plus answers many questions we think new and continuing students might have.

This week The (Not So) Secret Guide to Being a Berkeley Engineer's resource highlight is a two-for-one. Keith McAleer joins us today to tell us about the Sutardja Center for Entrepreneurship & Technology (SCET) and the Berkeley Gateway to Innovation (BEGIN)! Both programs are fantastic resources for engineering students.
SCET offers courses, a lecture series, innovation labs, startup support and more. BEGIN has an incredible database search tool to help you find what you need, including funding, accelerators, competitions and more.

This week Christine Zhou, staff psychologist with Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS), stopped by the podcast to discuss the pros and cons of seeking out support for mental health and wellness. Many of the cons are based on the negative myths and stereotypes that come from needing help and we appreciated the way that Christine discussed the negative issues she's heard.

One of our goals of the podcast is to introduce you to resources across campus. This week on the Not So Secret Guide to Being a Berkeley Engineer we meet Brian Glickman and Joyce Huchin from the Basic Needs Center to discuss programming, access and more. The programs provided by the Basic Needs Center include: * Graded seminars by Food for Thought * CalFresh * Drop-in services * Emergency housing support * Food pantry * Emergency financial support

ESS adviser Mayra Rivera is our guest on this week's The Not So Secret Guide to Being a Berkeley Engineer discussing life's balancing act. As new students you'll have to learn how to balance your academic and personal lives, including managing family expectations and scheduling time to recharge yourself. Mayra shares with you what she learned about setting boundaries and priorities, and draws from her time as a Berkeley student, as well as the resources she's learned about as an academic adviser.

You'll begin your registration process next week: transfer students on Tuesday, July 12 and first-years on Thursday, July 14. We are excited to have Adarsh Anil Kumar and Kaichen Liu, two of our newly graduated ESS peer advisers, share their combined eight years of experience with suggestions and resources.
We want our new students to hear their peer's stories. Our second installment of first-generation stories from Paige Lyles, Muhammed Sohaib and Elham Zakeri, includes working with their family's expectations, building community, finding resources and final thoughts.

Our guest this week is Tiffany Reardon from ESS and she focuses on four areas that students could be thinking about, without losing out on the time needed to relax and get ready for moving, or any of the number of things this new chapter is bringing.
