Let’s talk business. Digital Health Business.
Arguably the most important setting stone for a great digital health company is identifying a true unmet business need and crafting an efficient solution to solve it.
Israel has such an abundance of tech talent and technology can be a true differentiator. Still, without the business (and clinical) angle there is a good chance it will become a hammer looking for a nail.
Under that notion, we at Arkin Digital health decided to launch a new miniseries of interviews with industry leaders, coming from different parts of the US healthcare ecosystem, hopefully, to provide Israeli entrepreneurs, investors, and the Israeli healthcare community insights on the business side of digital health.
Bitesize interviews with one goal – to provide concrete value to hopefully push more Israeli companies to penetrate and expand in the US healthcare market.

In this episode, we talked with Dr. Stephen Klasko, who just concluded a decade-long tenure as president and CEO of Jefferson Health, an 18-hospital system in Philadelphia, and as president of Thomas Jefferson University. The conversation touched on why it tends to be challenging to introduce innovation into health systems, what are the common pitfalls early-stage companies should expect when interacting with hospitals and ways to overcome them, and the importance of understanding not everything will make sense in these interactions.

He has an exceptional experience in the medical education field with senior leadership positions in industry leaders such as Elsevier, Kaplan, and WebMD. He also held numerous board positions in for-profit and not-for-profit organizations and even held a fellowship position in the white house.

In this episode, we explored the challenges of implementing new technologies in health systems, especially in the current environment; why US hospitals are pursuing large-scale collaborations with Israeli hospitals; and what can Israeli startups need to consider to improve their chances of working in the US provider space.
