Taking creative action to solve problems faced by society, changemakers are passionate and inspiring individuals. We have the pleasure of presenting episode two of a two-part series recorded at an event hosted by Adelaide City Rotaract Club. This live panel is hosted by dedicated Global Shaper Steph Hopkins.
Episode two features Henry Davis, principle of HLD Law, Australia conveyancing and principal of co-pilot Australia. Lazaras also joins us as the youngest councillor in the city of port Adelaide enfield representing the progressive politics and values from his area. Fellow Global Shaper Michelle Howie features in this panel too. She is a future networks engineer at SA power networks passionate about clean energy and a sustainable future. Michelle also serves on the global shapers advisory council to strengthen governance and impact for the region. Interviewer, public speaker and artist, Isabella Taylor has a passion for the world she lives in. Episode one features the honourable Olivia Savvas MP. Elected at age 25, she is the youngest member of the South Australian Parliament and is the youngest woman ever elected to the House of Assembly. She is a current Labor member of the South Australian House of Assembly representing Newland. Today Olivia shares with us why she got into politics at such a young age, how her age and gender have been a disruptor, how she works with the young people in her electorate, and what political project she's most proud of. The upcoming Voice to Parliament Referendum is fast approaching and it’s time to get conversations flowing. Identifying a gap in public knowledge surrounding the upcoming vote, Global Shapers wanted to spread awareness of the campaign in a non-partisan way, for those who seek further understanding. As Global Shapers we meet and collaborate on Kaurna Land everyday. We are privileged and proud to call this land our home and pay our respects to its traditional custodians who have cared and nurtured this shared ground for generations.
The upcoming referendum is a big turning point in our country’s history. We are lucky to live in such a democracy where we have a voice, so let’s use it to make an informed vote. In this episode we tackle the questions everyone seeks answers to as we embark on a journey towards the polling booths in October.

Meet Ameen Bou Diab: an inspiring young talent and a proud member of ForceForty, an initiative championed by South Australia's New State of Mind Campaign. Ameen's journey is a rollercoaster. From his early days in Lebanon, a significant move to Saudi, and then jetting off to Australia to chase his aerospace engineering dreams, every step was a blend of challenge and triumph.
But here's what makes Ameen's story special: from his efforts to adapt to all the changes and rise up to all the challenges in his life, emerged three principles that define him today - his unwavering belief in freedom, connection, and love. In his days as an international student, these principles didn't just help him survive; they helped him thrive and become a beacon for South Australia's dynamic young talent.

Committed to a career in sustainability, cross-industry experience and impact entrepreneurship, Marion is the co-founder and CEO at Close the Loop Solutions, a business specialised in certified home compostable products to replace single-use plastic. Their solutions, presented via a one-stop shop "Compostable Alternatives" are used nationwide by a number of highly sustainably-focused hospitality businesses.
Marion is also the co-president at La French Tech Australia and sits on the board of Startup Adelaide and the Fleurieu Regional Waste Authority.

When it comes to the circular economy, there is no greater system than Food Waste and organics composting. By turning one man’s stinky trash into the state’s fertiliser treasure, we can ALL contribute to SDG target 12.3* - halve food waste by 2030 and give our local produce and wine the nutrients they need without synthetic chemicals. Green Industries South Australia is world-leading in many circular economy and waste initiatives, with the latest being Australia’s first public place trial for organic waste bins in Rundle Mall.
In this episode we hear from Amelia Chaplin, Project Officer from Green Industries SA, who gives climate-conscious South Australians easy ways to save the planet, inspires our international guests to learn from our sustainable systems, and encourages young people to get into purpose driven jobs that they’re passionate about.
