How do you care for yourself? Have you experienced times when self-care felt fleeting or incomplete? What does it mean to honor your soul self? What are you doing when you feel most connected to the God within? In this episode, Shelby shares a download she received about moving beyond the concept of self-care into something deeper, truer, and more sustainable. The way dominant culture discusses self-care tends to focus on caring for our physical vessel, which is a groundbreaking step forward from the well-being gap so many of us have experienced, but it’s just the first step toward a deeper connection to self and to spirit. Self-care practices position us to come into presence with our inner world. From that place, there’s more to discover and to bring intention to. Self-devotion can take us even further toward sustainably and intentionally honoring the soul self and the God within. Shelby shares her definition of self-devotion and some of the key elements she’s learned so far along her journey. This episode will leave you feeling curious to seek and honor your truth.

When was the last time you followed the call of Spirit? Where did it lead? What are your gifts? When do you feel most embodied in them? In this episode, Shelby sits down with Erin Rogers in conversation around learning to work with our own energy and following the call of Spirit. They get into what those calls sound like in their everyday lives, and the grounding tools that support that communication. Erin shares her journey toward discovering her gifts, and a potent experience that silenced any of her previous doubts in their power. She also offers that keeping a library of how our gifts express positions us to build deep self trust and live with further presence. Shelby shares the morning ritual that prepares her for anything. Erin talks about how she utilizes the tools of astrocartography, human design, and astrology to support her agency and spiritual journey rather than letting them lead her. This episode will inspire you to make room for the voice of Spirit in your life, and invest in the library of you.

What kinds of futures do you imagine for yourself and for your community? What is your spirit calling you to lean into? What does reclaiming agency mean for you? In this episode, Shelby sits down with Jamilla Okubo in conversation around how powerful it is to take space to feel out what resonates with us personally without judgment rather than habitually surrender to societal norms. They also get into their gratitude for Sun Ra and the dreamscape of Black futures he dared to imagine. Shelby encourages that we can never go wrong with prioritizing self-care because we are all connected to everything. Shelby and Jamilla also get into self trust and true community as foundation for spirituality and wellness. Jamilla shares how intuition led her to develop her voice as an artist and build mutually nourishing relationships with immediate and extended community, and offers a peek into her creative process and self-care practices. This episode will inspire you to imagine fruitful futures for yourself and for your community. It’ll also remind you that you’re safe to feel and move through all of your feelings.
About Jamilla
Jamilla Okubo is an interdisciplinary artist exploring the intricacies of belonging to an American, Kenyan, and Trinidadian identity. Combining figurative painting, pattern/textile design, fashion, and storytelling, she celebrates the Black body in relation to movement, expression, ideology, and culture. Inspired by kanga cloth, which communicates messages derived from Swahili proverbs, quotes from the Qur’an, African folklore and popular culture, Okubo creates her own patterns in reference to the history, mythology, and vernacular of the African diaspora. She prints these original patterns on paper as collage material for her paintings or on fabric for fashion and performance-based work. The gestural strength of her imagery and symbolism is a platform for restoring agency and reclaiming the oppositional gaze. Style, embraced for sociopolitical impact, woven with ancestral and contemporary wisdom invites the viewer to reflect on old and new mythologies, alternative realities, and self-love.
Jamilla (b. Clinton, NC) is based in Washington, D.C. She holds a BFA in Integrated Design from Parsons the New School of Design. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, in venues such as The Torpedo Factory (VA), Social & Public Art Resource Gallery (CA), Milk Gallery (NY), Weeksville Heritage Center (NY), Super Wonder Gallery (Toronto) and the Dray Walk Gallery (London). She has created art installations for Culture Corp x Hudson Yards (NY), and the Line Hotel (DC). In addition, her work has been reproduced for publications and purchased for private collections. Notable publications of her work have appeared in O, Oprah Magazine and the covers of An American Marriage, Tayari Jones (Oneworld Publishing House) and Den Omättliga Vägen, Ben Okri (Modernista Group AB). She has collaborated with XDevoe, Gorman, and Christian Dior. Currently, she is represented by Mehari Sequar Gallery (DC).

How do you nurture your individuality? What does love mean to you? What does it look like to please the God within? In this episode, Shelby sits down with Cherice and Amzi Jackson in conversation around how preserving and investing in our individuality elevates how we come together in spiritual partnership. Amzi and Cherice share how interrupting the habit of religious tradition with conscious curiosity has led them on their unique spiritual paths. A shift in Cherice’s perspective on love has opened her up to an evolving connection to spirituality that has brought her peace, and has naturally poured outward into her relationships. And, because I love me, I love you. Love is her purpose. Her goals are to: embody Love; be Love; and, spread Love. Love is her lifestyle. Cherice shares that there aren't many things she knows for sure, but she does know that in order to fully love ourselves, we must first know and accept ourselves. It is a journey dedicated to "unbecoming" so that we may truly become...giving ourselves permission to show up in this world without regard to other people's opinions, perceptions, or expectations. As she commits to guiding those who trust her, she is committed to being a lifetime learner. While currently teaching courses at a local college and serving as a trained relationship coach, she continues to make time to study both spirituality and love.
About Amzi
Amzi Jackson is a multi-instrumentalist, producer, composer for tv & film, recording engineer, programmer, vinyl junkie, and a guy who loves to create. Music is his passion and he believes that it is powerful enough to impact the world. Amzi’s new instrumental music project is being released in fall 2022. Each track is tuned to various universal solfeggio frequencies, to create positive vibrational shifts for the listeners. Are you ready to expand your concept of love and intention? In this episode, Shelby talks with DC-based songstress Cecily, who shares how her spiritual journey influences her life and artistry. Cecily is a thinker, a learner, and an evolutionist, consciously letting life’s spiritual lessons teach and shape her. Shelby and Cecily discuss honesty in music, unconditional love, and intentionality as a driving force behind creativity. You’ll leave this conversation feeling expanded by spiritual lessons in love, life and conscious creation.
About Cecily
Cecily (pronounced ses-suh-lee) is a DC-based vocalist and songwriter who is known for her beautiful, agile soprano voice and honest lyrics. Her sound, as soothing as it is rich, is rooted in a deep appreciation for mid-century soul and jazz, 90’s R&B, and re-imagined folk music.
Growing up surrounded by her parents’ vast record collection (think Miles Davis, Smokey Robinson) gives her work a unique sensuality that informs not only her vocal approach, but also her self-reflecting lyrics, grappling with topics like self-acceptance, vulnerability, and rebirth. Over her career, she has made a conscious commitment to create work that celebrates vulnerability as a strength, unconditional love as a grounding principle, and joy as an innate human right.DC-based vocalist and songwriter who is known for her beautiful, agile soprano voice and honest lyrics, which have been such medicine for me since I first discovered her music. Her sound, as soothing as it is rich, is rooted in a deep appreciation for mid-century soul and jazz, 90’s R&B, and re-imagined folk music.
