The journey for Black women and their hair can be somewhat ... complicated? Or maybe there is a better way to describe it. In this episode, Rhonda and Khalia are talking about their hair journey, exploring why hair is such a major thing for many Black women, and also celebrating what they love best about their hair! What has been your experience with your hair? Have you ever felt like you have had to conform or change your hair for certain situations? How does your hair journey mirror your journey toward self-awareness and acceptance? Our hosts are answering these questions and so much more!
The closing excerpt is read from "My Hair ... My Marriage" by Felecia Pearson Smith.

It's Valentine's Day!!! In this episode Rhonda and Khalia are exploring the love journey in a slightly different way - they are talking about Black Love Day (Feb. 13). According to the African American Registry, Black Love Day, which falls on February 13 every year, was established in 1993, and is spiritual holiday rooted in African cultures and ideas. The aim of this day is to complete the five tenets: to practice love toward "the Creator, for Self, for the Family, within the Black Community and for the Black Race" for 24 hours. Rhonda and Khalia, who just learned about this significant celebration, explore how learning of this new tradition has shaped the way they approach Valentine's Day. In addition, they are giving some insight to how they intentionally love themselves in this life journey. Take a listen!

We have talked about our wellness and fitness journeys and know how hard it can be. So, at the top of the year, we thought it’d be good to check in with each other, and all of you, AND to bring in an expert to join the conversation, personal trainer LaTesha Turner. In this episode, LaTesha shares so much wisdom around the fitness journey: how to work out, what we should focus on (especially for those of us who have crossed over 40), the importance of nutrition, and so much more. We even share our favorite and least favorite works outs (hint: burpees made the list for everyone ... was it a favorite or least???)

"Instead of spending a year resolving to do something that feels like work, how about we invite something in that feels like joy?" This is the question we are exploring in this episode! We are approaching the end of 2021 and looking toward the new year, which naturally causes us to start reflecting on the year that is passing, and making resolutions for the year to come. However, instead of making resolutions (that we admittedly never keep), we are talking about new ways to think about our intentions in 2022. How can we invite joy in? What will you invite in that feels like joy? And, what one or two words will guide us in this new year. Get into this episode ... and get ready for a little bit of joy!!!

Instead of diving straight into an end-of-year reflection, it’s important that we approach this year a little differently – not just focusing on achievements and how "productive" you've been, but looking back on the silver linings that have been carved out of 2021 and the lessons to take forward. In this episode, we take a minute to reflect on The Journey with Rhonda and Khalia and what launching this podcast has meant for us this year. We explore lessons learned, things that surprised us most, and our favorite episode. We hope this inspires you to take a moment before the end of the year and reflect on the things that have been a shining light for you this year!

We’ve talked a lot about self-care and soul care this year, which has made a lot of sense given these heavy times. And it’s become such a hot topic, that it almost feels cliche’ to talk about self-care. And in that, something we hear people saying a lot regarding self-care, is the need to “protect your peace”. We want to dig into that a little bit in this episode, especially as we reflect on this year and near the end of the year. What does it mean to protect your peace? We hear this said a lot, but do we know how to do it? Get these answers and more in this episode.

After talking about "The Soundtrack of Our Children's Lives" (episode 19), it was clear that we have a lot that we carry on daily basis as it relates to caring for our families and households. This is what we call "the mental load of motherhood". In today's episode we explore this mental load, and ask a few key questions: What is the mental load of motherhood? How do we navigate this load? What strategies can help us in our motherhood journey? While this conversation is centered on our experiences as mothers, there a number of gems shared that can relate to all areas of life - professional, relational, personal. You don't have to be a mom to listen to this one, there is plenty of insight for everyone!
We start the episode off sharing this quote by Laurie Frankel:
"This is How It Always Is"
This is how it always is. You have to make these huge decisions on behalf of your kid, this tiny human whose fate and future is entirely in your hands. Who trusts you to know what's good and right and then to be able to make that happen. You never have enough information. You don't get to see the future. And if you screw up - if with your incomplete contradictory information you make the wrong call - nothing less than your child's entire future and happiness is at stake. It's impossible. It's heartbreaking. It's maddening. But there's no alternative.

When you look back on your childhood, do you see traces of your voice showing up? When and how? Were there experiences that muted your voice as a child? As a mother, how intentional are you in shaping your children’s voices? These are just a few of the questions we discuss in this episode. Join us for the conversation as we talk about being intentional in shaping our children's voices and how we try our absolute best to have a positive impact (knowing we don't always get it right).
