In film school, we were being taught how to do music videos and all the directing students had the freedom to choose which songs to shoot. Yours truly at the time basically listened to Classical music, Yanni, Youssou Ndour, Angélique Kidjo and Salif Keita Official Fan Page. But you all know which one I chose to do my music video on right?? Hehe… anyway my classmate, The extraordinary Rita Safowaa Karikari-Prempeh chose the indefatigable (Didn’t know it then) Ben Brako’s song Mawei. And omg! What imagery! What creativity! During student screening, I was instantly blown away and proceeded to just binge listen to his songs! Let me tell you, when they tell you to throw your dreams forward, DO IT!!! I have always had M’wofa Ben Brako (You know I gotta give him a name na ) on my wish list. And inside of 2 days, TWOOO DAYS!!! Any3mi I was talking to #THELEGEND like we’d known each other forever! My earliest memory of Christmas is of mama making a budget for the ingredients she needed for making chips, home made nkatie burger, cake and other condiments. I also remember our annual major cleaning ritual. Normally around the 23rd or 24th of December just in time for the 25th. I remember the anticipation of Christmas morning… not for presents under a Christmas tree - for there were none lol. But for the return home after service that morning and the special rice and stew and COKE we were sure to enjoy…. I Remember … O so many things I remember about our very African Christmas.
